Give a thumbs up 👍instead. It's not easy to perform on stage. You are brave enough just by wearing our cultural clothes! You made Igorots more proud of their own culture. Matago tago nan Igorot. Igorotak met in the UK 😊

Sorry if some are disappointed but we just want to let you know that most of the performers grew up here in Canada. We did try to look for tips on youtube and most of the dance steps in this peformance were taught to us by igorot elders here as well. In our minds, we thought 'surely our efforts and hard work will show how proud we are to be igorots'. We didn't expect to be bashed by our fellow igorots. I believe that instead of bashing, suggest!! Give tips!! It would really help boost our confidence so we'll do a better job next time. Mind you, the people here appreciate how we embrace our culture.

I'm not disappointed, if anything I'm proud that youngsters like you and your crew who wasn't born and raised in the Philippines was willing to learn and perform our old traditions. While your performance was no where near the real thing. I would still give your performance an A. If you did all that just because of your own research then I really applaud you guys. But if there were elders there that knew how it's suppose to be done, I put the blame on them for not teaching it properly. They should've known better, they should've taught you properly. Don't let the negative comments here bring you down. But use it to motivate yourself into learning more about our culture, even if you are half a world away.

Rest assured, there are way more people here in the Philippines who are happy for what you did. The thought of you embracing our culture is enough to make your efforts commendable. Good job!

It might be too late to post a comment. I'm from the Cordilleras. I have read the comments posted down below.
First thing, I'm sorry for my butt hurt Cordillerans (if they really are). Culture is really an important aspect of lives that's why. And dances represent the different tribes in the Cordilleras.
Second, as for the differences, every tribes in Cordilleras have different patterns in terms of music and clothing (tapis and baag). For the gongs, every tribe has different patterns for that. That's the same for the patterns seen in tapis and baag.
Third, the dances are different. there might be the similar hand gestures from every tribe. You can differentiate the dances by observing the foot work. And on my observation, the dance what you guys did is from Mountain Province (basing it on the foot work and pattern of gongs).
Fourth, the dance is really good. Very well executed. I understand that the traditional clothings are not easy to find in your location. Honestly, even here in Cordilleras. You need to ask for the whole neighborhood to find someone willing to lend their tapis or bahag (if your granny or grandpa doesn't have one).
Fifth, it's really an honor guys to see you proud of our ethnic heritage. God bless you.

The dance steps is from Kalinga but the tapis of the ladies is from Mt. province.

Thumbs up kakailian. The fact that you are in canada and performed our ethnic dance is very much appreciated. Karkaro ta haan mabain nga nagbaag boys without briefs. I know that soon, you can find some people to polish your igorot dance steps and the sound of the gongs.

Nice one. but correction: Almost all Igorots in the Cordilleras at present are Christians. They also live modern lives. They only wear their native costumes during occasions/festivities in order to preserve part of their culture and traditions that are worth preserving. Kalinga, the province, is pronounced "KA-LING-GA." "KA-LI-NGA" means another word in Filipino.

This is more of an adaptive style patterned from the original that is somewhat similar. But what I could say is that you've created instead a new and unique dance style. As for the tapis, people should understand that this is in Canada (resources limited) and that all of you are not from Kalinga but from different municipalities/provinces (mostly from the Mountain Province I presume).

      Iti kinaagpays0 n ading, Ig0r0t and kalinga are tw0 different tribal gr0up. Ig0r0t is a tribe with different subtribes, Kalinga is a tribe with vari0us subtribes too. Kalinga is never a subtribe 0f ig0r0t th0ugh we all bel0ng t0 m0untain pr0vince bef0re because y0ur the most d0minant tribe interms 0f populati0n and land area. Same as thr0ugh with abra and apaya0 they have their identity 0f their 0wn n0t ig0r0t in general. G0 t0 kalinga and y0u kn0w wh0 are the ig0r0ts and wh0 are the native ikalingas. Pls d0nt be 0ffended because we ikalingas have 0ur 0wn identity just like 0ur br0ther ig0r0ts.

You are probably an Indian not knowing what you are talking about.
Don't you hear & see Igorots from the Cordillera region & "Kalinga" is one of its province & the background says "Philippines" not Kalinga, India.

don't just perform 1 traditional dance. because that tradition is not whole in cordillera, so this video can't entertain the all igorots,
