Thanks Simon. Every morning I see at least one Magpie heading into the trees opposite our house, looking to kill and eat smaller Birds. Like you say, anyone who understands the effect these Pest Species Birds have on non-predatory Species - will fully understand why their numbers must be controlled.
I used to work with a guy that was a former gamekeeper down in Cornwall, he said he carried out a one man vendetta against Magpies, and if I had ever seen a group of magpies working a hedge I would understand why, he knew he was winning eventually when birdsong was returning.
Here in New Zealand the Magpies are a lot bigger, and are classed as a pest. They are incredibly intelligent, and classed as New Zealand's most aggressive bird so you have to be a stealthy and quiet as you can, to shoot the buggers. I have a basic FX Dreamline, and Hades are my choice of pellet, although they are expensive here. Thanks for another great video, always great to see a new vid come up!
Hi Simon, Thank you for your latest video. It's great seeing your FX air rifle, a beautiful piece of kit. I see the pressure gauges are very well positioned. I had my own bit it of success, yesterday, Sunday. I've been pest controlling now for about four years, 12ftlb, legal limit. I've only ever really known shooting one crow/magpie, then the rest disappearing when they know you're there. Yesterday, I shot a magpie, in a wood, around forty yards. There was then, a magpie/crow frenzy. Sqwuarking and chattering, I never seen, heard anything like it. The great thing was, they kept coming landing in this tree, where I was aiming and zeroed at. The absolutely other fantastic thing was, I felt I was working the wood, with two Buzzards. One of them came flying towards me, turning at the last minute with one of my Magpies in it's talons! I so wish I'd have been ready with a camera, it would have been an amazing picture. A real example of raw wildlife at its best! This went on for around twenty minutes. I couldn't load my magazines fast enough, lol. I was using an Air Arms Ultimate Sporter R, in .177. A fabulous, legal limit air rifle. I missed hardly any, and shooting in the frenzy, when my magazine had unknowingly become empty. That's the best time I've had, Simon. It was amazing working with the Buzzards and something I'll remember for a long time. Reading some of your comments, Simon, it seems like more people are finally coming to realise the damage these covids do. I know it takes many things to make a world and they all have a right to be here and thrive. However, if it wasn't for people like us, the Song Birds, Ground Nesting Birds, other types of birds wouldn't stand a chance. Sorry to babble, I just wanted to tell you about a fantastic day. Best wishes, Ian.
I totally agree with you about the Hades pellets ...I don't think they really open up much, but whatever they're doing is much better than a dome pellet! 👍 Take care! ✌️
🇨🇱🤝🇬🇧saludos mr simon excelente jornada de caza de plagas el fx king es un rolls royce de los rifle bonito fiable y muy preciso un abrazo desde chile🤗👏👍
Great video again well edited😀 just a couple of points you made about the pellets, after a lot of testing including expansion i found the hades to be 5 to 10% better than standard but 5% bigger groups at 50 yds but 18.13 heavy to be about 20% better again in actual stopping power if they made a 18.13g hades i would buy them! tests were done out my fx wildcat mk2 fac that at the time was doing about 28ft lbs and at 50yds.
@@simon6ppc246 must admit ive not seen 25g hades in 22 at that weight i think i would prefer to use slugs. in my mk3. 25 g slugs at about 920 fps (thats as fast as i con get it to go) seems to tick all the boxes. keep posting your great videos they are a joy to watch👍
Another great video Simon. Hats off to you for not shooting the maggie on the roof, the same cant be said for other channels out there were they do even when shooting slugs at high power. All the best mate👍
Hi mate, another great vid that ticks all the boxes for a hunting vid, I'm still in awe of the FX King, it's got the looks and the performance. Must admit that I've been thinking about trying Hades pellets, currently I'm using JSB Exact Heavy Diablo which are 10.34 grains in .177 and their Hades .177 are exactly the same weight so l just wondered what difference the 3 indents in the dome makes 🤔The cattle behind you made me smile, who ever would have thought that pest control could be a spectator sport lol. Keep well mate and all the best.
Lol cheers Geoff and ye i don't half meet some animals in my travels also the Hades for me are the better hunting pellet there's not much in the both to be fair.
You are right about the Hades not expanding much. I have a number of them in my collection recovered from large fox squirrels and a rabbit or two and none expanded much, though you can clearly see they did expand a very small amount anyway. They were all fired from my S 510 at 950 fps and ranges from 10 yards to 50 yards. You are also right about the fact they seem to kill better. I think the three small holes have some sort of hydraulic affect on things when one lands in a good spot on an animal.
Ye Ridin they seem very accurate to in a few of my rifles why i use them to be fair also on on lower power you don't get many pass throughs i have found as well.

To be fair i should have used my Wolverine that day on 12ftlb as it would have done the job just as good pal FAC is good to use but you don't always need that power.
Hello Charlotte, May I politely say, 12ftlb isn't all doom and gloom. Yes, it must be great to have that extra power. However, in many of Simons videos, he uses 12flb, legal limit more than FAC. There was a Magpie in Simon's video on what looked like an asbestos roofed outbuilding. FAC at 28ftlb was too powerful to take the shot, as there wasn't a suitable backdrop. There have been many times I've been amazed at what 12ftlb has achieved. Also, with legal limit kit, we don't have to be inspected periodically and not as under pressure as FAC to be looking at our backdrop. Yes, FAC would be very handy, but not the be-all and end-all. Best wishes, Ian.
Nice one Simon, time to get a ball head and clamp to go on your tripod 👍, optics warehouse does a nice metal clamp for £35, not worth balancing a rifle, let alone one of that quality. Vector optics rockstad I think it's called. I've got one, it's decent.
