Fun fact: Will Ferrell, who is normally a very health-conscious eater, had to consume all of the sugar you see Buddy eating throughout the movie, and suffered constant headaches during filming as a result.
Fun fact #2: Ferrell didn't actually do the long burp, it was contributed by voice actor Maurice LaMarche, best known as Brain from Pinky and the Brain.

    • @geeebuttersnap2433
      @geeebuttersnap2433 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I didn’t know the first one, somewhat knew about the burp being faked, didn’t know that it was Brain doing it, that would have definitely helped him take over the world before dawn.

    • @natsinthebelfry

George brought up Bender during this video, so I'd add that Maurice LaMarche also voiced a ton of characters in Futurama! Kif, Calculon, Lrrr, Hedonismbot, and a bunch of others.

@George - I'm not sure what your question about Santa Claus lore is, but I'm sort of an expert on it.
If you're asking why Santa is "secret" or however you want to look at it....he's not really.
His gift giving is the secret part.
Santa Claus is a version of Odin Allfather.
    Let's start there.
Christmas is OVERWHELMINGLY based on Norse Mythology.
Odin - Santa - The lord of the elves in the far mystical frozen north.
    Asgard - the North Pole
    Valhalla - Santa's Workshop
    elves - elves
Sleipnir (Odin's eight-legged flying horse) - Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen (Santa's eight flying reindeer)
Yule/Yuletide/Yule logs are quite literally just outright Norse things.
Straw for Sleipnir - Milk & cookies for Santa
socks/boots with gifts - Christmas stockings
Yuletide (AKA Christmastide, or Christmas Time) is effectively the same thing as the Twelve Days Of Christmas.
Yuletide is when the Wild Hunt takes place, and Odin leads a hunting party of spirits and legendary beings across the skies on a hunt for legendary beasts.
During the Wild Hunt, children would fill their socks and boots with straw to feed Odin's horse, Sleipnir.
In return for their kindness to his horse, Odin would repay the children with treats and gifts stuffed into their shoes and socks.
Mistletoe is a major part of Norse mythology as the only thing capable of hurting the god Baldr.
Wreaths of greenery, candles, etc are all Norse traditions.
Krampus is a dark demon-like being who kidnaps and punishes naughty children.
He precedes Santa's arrival, and is seen as sort of the dark mirror to Santa.
Krampus is actually the son of Hel (AKA Hela), the Norse Goddess Of The Underworld, Loki's daughter.
    So Krampus is Loki's grandson.
Krampus is also a member of Odin's hunting party during the Wild Hunt.
Santa Claus is derived HEAVILY from Odin's guise as the Grey Wanderer - a tall bearded old man, with a staff, wearing robes, who would wander the land.
The Grey Wanderer is ALSO what Gandalf The Grey is based on.
Santa Claus is also hybridized with the tales of Saint Nicholas Of Myra, an early Greek Christian Bishop from during the Roman Empire.
He was the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, repentant thieves, children, brewers, pawnbrokers, unmarried people, and students.
Saint Nicholas was legendary for secretly giving people gifts.
THAT'S where the secret attribute of Santa's gift-giving comes from.
The Dutch took the legend of Saint Nicholas and corrupted it into the character of Sinterklaas - Sort of a more legendary pop culturey version who rode a big white horse, carried a Bishop's staff, and dressed in red and gold.
The name "Santa Claus" derives from the Dutch "Sinterklaas".
Sinterklaas eventually merged into the mythology and traditions of Odin and Yuletide, and you basically ended up with a version of Odin who wore red and did his gift-giving secretly, called Santa Claus.

The voice of the polar bear cub was provided by Ray Harryhausen. Harryhausen. This man was one of the greatest animators in stop motion films like Jason And The Argonauts, The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms and so much more. Also as an actor I have worked with James Caan (Las Vegas) and Will Ferrell (Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back).

I remember seeing this one in theaters when it first came out. The theater was almost empty and I was only there on a weekday matinee because I was a Will Ferrell. By the time the book squished the little characters during the opening titles, I knew I was gonna like this movie a lot.

The elf with the glasses and six white puffs on his jacket is the actor who played Ralphie in A Christmas story, he had gone on to be a successful movie producer including this movie and Iron man.

Two TV legends in this film: Edward Asner as Santa (he was on the Mary Tyler Moore Show) and Bob Newhart as the head elf, who had two very successful TV shows and, prior to that, a very successful career as a stand-up comedian. I'm pretty sure the snowman was meant to look like Leon Redbone, a singer-songwriter and musician specializing in jazz, blues, and Tin Pan Alley classics in the 70s and 80s. Google his picture and I think you'll agree. He even sounded a little like Leon.

@@Rocket1377 that's not different than what I said.
"LEGO" isn't inherently plural any more than Reese's is. It's the Bricks or Cup or Pieces that are singular or plural.

Lmfao Simone, your intros are gold!
You and George should do a collection of the best intros from this year and have it as a fun bonus holiday video! It would be amazing and I’m sure will be a big hit 😁
(Gotta include this intro! And while I’m not going to be the one to try to attempt the joke I’m sure we all know the type of joke that can be made with that sound hahaha 🤣😂🤣)
Hey should do a best laughs highlights video as well, or put it with the best intros! That would be EPIC!!!
Anyways, for all I know that’s all already in the works lol
    Take care!

The “Snow Guy” and all the elf costumes and creatures were a reference to the old 1964’s “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”. The actor/singer Burl Ives played the “Snowman”. FYI-ST. Nicholas (Santa Claus) was an actual bishop from Myra Turkey born in the 3rd century. There’s a church there as well (the church of St Nicholas). Found it by accident while stationed in Turkey while in the USAF. A number of original Christian churches are in Turkey. Cheers
