      Yes unfortunately it's only the egg laying.
      14 days later they would come out.
      But it's such a perfect spot for the eggs, to take every day a look 👏

    I'll preface this by saying: for some weird reason, I am horrified and terrified of gastropods. They make the skin on the tops of my feet crawl when I see one nearby and give me the whole body heebs; I actually do the full on gross-out dance. I grew up in a coastal rainforest, which is banana slug heaven. That being said, this was so beautiful it made me want to weep. S/he ( sails are hermaphroditic) cared for those eggs so much. Watching her caress the eggs to check on them, while kind of giving me fear prickles, was also so sweet. All life is amazing. I never purposely harm any creature (what I eat and wear, I thank, and one day my unembalmed body will feed countless creatures. Probably more than a few slugs and snails.) Even if I find it repulsive I respect it. Gastropods probably find me disgusting as well. I picture a snail seeing me and thinking "omg its horrible!! what is it?? its so.....DRY!! Why are its movements so fast and jarring?! Keep it away!!!!" Anyway, thank you for this beauty!

      We actually found a snail outside and decided to keep it and seriously - it's one of the coolest pets!! They're pretty easy to care for (so far). It needs a decent glass or plastic cage like a 'critter keeper', some dirt and grass for the bottom, leafy plants for food, and the occasional turtle feeding pellets from the pet store. The main thing you have to remember to do is spray the cage with a mist of water every other day or so. Its such a cool pet though - ours literally will take food out of your hand,

      Snails are both male and female at the same time. Name it whatever you want!

    • @lb3724
      @lb3724 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      EXTREMLY unlikely.. I think only a handful of species are recorded as having done it, but theyre not sure. They can carry the sperm of another snail for a long time before deciding to fertilize with it in order to lay eggs. For instance if two snails were to meet and "fall in love" (lol) but then shortly after that there is an intense dry spell, the snail will opt to wait it out until a few consistent days of rain to use it to fertilize so that the eggs have the highest possible chance of survival. This is why its hard to tell if a lone snail had self fertilized or was just holding on to "the stuff".
      But in reality, evolution does not idealize towards self-fertilization because of the evolutionary problems it causes w/ genetic issues so when it does happen it is always typically a rare occurance where the population and chances for meeting another snail are slim.
