This was so beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. I love your passion! Snails and I have a spiritual bond (long story) but they always seem to find me when I need them. They’re such amazing creatures. Thank you for helping ♥️♥️
Thanks for this video. I've always loved snails--even the brown European ones that eat everything! They remind me of little dogs somehow, and have a whimsical, unearthly feeling to them that I find fascinating. I would have liked to know what purpose they serve, generally, in the ecosystem. Everyone has a job to do in nature! :)
All snails generally serve a few simple purposes but it's mostly cleanup of organic material and preventing overgrowth of certain plants. Without those snails, Hawaii will still look the same but it will have lost a treasure of diversity that cannot be obtained for at least millions of years. The Rosary Wolf Snail will probably eventually eat itself into extinction on the island unless other exotic snails arrive on the island. The garden near my home is a safe-haven for snails and other species that depend on a diversity of food, the garden isn't mowed (which kills a lot of snails around the world), it's fully grown with plants and there's little human intervention besides cleanup of plants for the winter. I know snails are annoying but give nature a chance to diversify in your area and you'll usually have less of a problem with them since multiple species can compete.
People see snail as nothing like they are not something worth of, seeing people like you observe these animals in danger and take them with care is very touching and inspiring
Humans should either die out or learn to take care of the planet we live in. Poor snails. Poor future earth. Poor future generations, that’ll have to deal with the apocalyptic effects of our change.
@@radioclash84 Yeah, I'm so tired of those misanthropes who say everybody should die, but won't start themselves. Nature will correct itself anyway, what's unsure is whether civilization will survive the new steady-state of the planet or not. Most of the things that happen are results of accidents. Like introducing an invasive species to another continent. And sometimes it's very hard to eliminate them.

Species is already a plural word xD Also: Evolution is neverending process, life always adapts to new times and environments, and species tend to fill in the role of another that went extinct. So yeah, there won't be any lions or tigers in the wild in a million years from now, but other animals might have taken their place.
ASHERUISE The megafauna probably would still be here today, probably smaller, if we didn’t hunt them. The mammoths and giant ground sloths would have died pff because the ice age ended, but the others would probably be here.

I wish I could do something meaningful like this with my life...
You guyz are real Super Heroes
The snail morgue was so sad holy shit
Perhaps if we reverse some climate change, the rosy wolf snail will branch out into its own evolutions. It’s difficult to reintroduce natives when there’s a bad guy on the loose.
Eeriel Constantine nah this part of the universe is shifting into a hot spot, it does so every once in a thousand blue moons
@@DoktrDub but this time, it is accelerated by human activity
what does this have to do with climate change at all
animals go extinct all the time this is just an archive of them
@@unitedstates4912 not all the time, that's absurd.
This was so well done and so informative. Thanks for making this, seriously.
When it rains, there is this one snail that like "drawing" so I called him graffiti
"Sometimes they make a run for it." Haha! I'm so glad these people care and are funded. We need people to care about the non glamorous species.
It's always sad when something ends
Starts off small then it gets bigger, we already knew this was coming but I never thought that the snails would die off so quickly.
This made me cry in the first few minutes. You can hear the guys sadness in his depressed voice. Its just a bad feeling knowing that we may never see a George ever again.
George died January 1 2019
He don't want to enter another more years with humans anymore.
Omg this is soooo deep... Shut up.

Much respect to the dedication and determination of these scientists and students. May they and those like them triumph in this extinction-prevention battle we're facing, now.
fun fact! an estimated 200 species go extinct everyday. (plants, insects, animals)
That's sad
What's the cause?
@@Rinesmyth usually us.
We accidentally brought the rosy wolf snail to Hawaii, for instance.
@@grmpEqweer This makes me, sad, and frustrated at our kind.
Thats not fun. :'(
We must make Wholesome Memes of George so he can become of King of Internet Snails!👑🐌👑
It's sad but that might be the only way anything gets done about it.
GalaxyEspeon would be a good way of spreading the word about this problem...
Let’s try it
GalaxyEspeon how could you say that! How heartless must a person be to think about memes??
@@Marika__xoxo We can use the power of memes to spread the knowledge of species extinction.
I got some tears a bit there. Dont mind me. I'm just crying. But I really cried about the death of the tortoise.
*Rest In Peace Lonesome George*
Everytime I hear about a species being extinct, I always tear up... I can't even fathom how many species and kinds of animals I haven't seen due to extinction. 😭
I nerver really appreciated snails until now. I never thought they could be so beautiful and interesting. But what I didn't expect the most was the possibility that they could go instinct.

First off you guys/gals are amazing taking the time to care for these snails! You should make a new (update/new) doc once a month or more maybe spotlight the different snail types educate the masses, need to broaden the awareness. Raise money, shake down the tourists hike them up there ..conservation through tourism? idk.. I really want to know more i could have watched a 90 min doc! I want to see the different types learn more about what each do .. how are the Red wolf snails killing them? I Liked, Subbed and Commented!
This was so beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. I love your passion! Snails and I have a spiritual bond (long story) but they always seem to find me when I need them. They’re such amazing creatures. Thank you for helping ♥️♥️
The more this video plays on... the more I read the comments down below (or above)... somehow, it feels like my heart is breaking apart.
So heartbreaking, eye opening, and all around interesting. I'm definitely subscribing
Human Being Training 👍👍💕💕
Don't you mean European slugs? I am European and don't know any brown snails
Ducky McDuckface they’re pretty big and eat anything you grow in a garden to eat
Snails mostly feed on decaying or dead plant matter over living plants and their faecal matter enriches the soil with nutrients.
😢 Thank you for your hard work guys.
Bless this guy. Much love from a gastropod-lover.
People see snail as nothing like they are not something worth of, seeing people like you observe these animals in danger and take them with care is very touching and inspiring
We as humans need to Nuture Nature but we are steadily killing it off
We are there are species of animals and plants that we haven't even discovered yet... And they're already gone...
TheCrazyKid1381 racist
@SubscribeToPewdiepie we've PROBABKY destroyed more species
Humans should either die out or learn to take care of the planet we live in. Poor snails. Poor future earth. Poor future generations, that’ll have to deal with the apocalyptic effects of our change.
Hahaha ok! u go first
Our main consolation is that once we're gone, nature will right herself again. It will be different, but just as beautiful.
How about you Martin? Please start the cycle.
@@radioclash84 Yeah, I'm so tired of those misanthropes who say everybody should die, but won't start themselves. Nature will correct itself anyway, what's unsure is whether civilization will survive the new steady-state of the planet or not. I think we're smart enough to handle the transition, what's lacking is the will.
Most of the things that happen are results of accidents. Like introducing an invasive species to another continent. And sometimes it's very hard to eliminate them.
People: you are what you eat.
Rosy wolfsnail: you eat what you are.
It takes so much dedication to perserve a species. Huge respect for this guy.
Make a 2 hour documentary about this pls its so gooood
This man was putting all his willpower into not tearing up
Seeing all these beautiful creatures go extinct is just so depressing

Plot twist: These specieses won't come back and the current animals in this world won't evolve the same anymore.
Species is already a plural word xD
Also:
Evolution is neverending process, life always adapts to new times and environments, and species tend to fill in the role of another that went extinct. So yeah, there won't be any lions or tigers in the wild in a million years from now, but other animals might have taken their place.
Specieses lmao
They might. There's a thing called convergent evolution
This is the first time I have ever felt empathy for something as small as snails. I'm sorry, George 😢😭 I appreciate all animals now. Thank you !

I may not have not known him personally but I wish him the best in his snail afterlife

We really need to start working together. The time is running up, and we are doing pretty much nothing about the climate change..
Overpopulation, development...it's a mess all around. Even just a few million humans managed to kill off almost all of the megafauna.
Honestly
ASHERUISE The megafauna probably would still be here today, probably smaller, if we didn’t hunt them. The mammoths and giant ground sloths would have died pff because the ice age ended, but the others would probably be here.
oh yeah just remind you guys well there only 12 month to save earth
Talk about a literal metaphor (yes an oxymoron) but...we ARE the Rosy Wolf Snail....
I'd say humans are far worse than a predatory snail. At least snails only kill snails, humans kill everything.
The way he is preserving this animals are worth it.
This is an amazing documentary about wildlife and the dangers we pose to even small animals that we don’t think about.
