      We've wiped out hundreds of species by ourselves and been around as others naturally died out. We are the apex predator and dominate species on this planet for a reason. Wheres the money in protecting the snails you need to ask. In Africa they have armed soldiers guard elephants because elephants have value to the nation. Could you see that here?

    • @jamescrud
      @jamescrud 5 ปีที่แล้ว +243

      @@vivi44 "...because elephants have value to the nation"
      They have monetary value because tourists come and pay to see them. Nobody will pay to see snails. This does not mean they don't have any "value". The problem is that to most people it's just a bug. The majority of the worlds population unfortunately has a fairly primitive mindset. People can't seem to look past their own simple and relatively meaningless lives to see the bigger picture.

He’s seeing the change manifest before his eyes; the land is shifting and there does not seem to be a reason for it. He works tirelessly to preserve the last of the snails ilk despite knowing the uphill battle he fights. Maybe a part of him even recognizes the futility in their destruction.

    Amphibians and snails are like the canary in the coal mine of the ecosystems of the earth, we need to do something very quickly. All the animals that relied on this link the ecosystem for food, the plants on their fertilization. For each link that breaks down in an ecosystem and there is nothing to replace it... Australia is just as bad for extinction rates, money talks over here too.

      I know of an old friend that has a house cat, and got angry that the council where we live wanted cats to be inside, so started letting his cat out for ages, and it would only come back for some food or to sleep. This is the same person that overfished where I live, thinks net fishing is perfectly ok, and diced open a living cane toad in front of me while making jokes about how it was still alive with all of its guts and stuff hanging out. Then again, in the same place that I said, a lady let her dogs run around a zoned off wildlife area for a while, and while they were there, they killed my area's beloved wild emu, Eric, so it isn't just cats. I think it is all just people needing to do the right thing by not letting their cats outside (or in my opinion, don't get a cat), keep their dogs monitored or trained, and if there are feral cats, kill them.

      THIS is so important for ALL people to realise, especially farmers and animal breeders (which I would call the genociders of the animal kingdom by now). Take responsibility, don't introduce new species for your money/crops. It will always backfire and kill native species in some way or another.

      All snails generally serve a few simple purposes but it's mostly cleanup of organic material and preventing overgrowth of certain plants. Without those snails, Hawaii will still look the same but it will have lost a treasure of diversity that cannot be obtained for at least millions of years. The Rosary Wolf Snail will probably eventually eat itself into extinction on the island unless other exotic snails arrive on the island.
      The garden near my home is a safe-haven for snails and other species that depend on a diversity of food, the garden isn't mowed (which kills a lot of snails around the world), it's fully grown with plants and there's little human intervention besides cleanup of plants for the winter.
      I know snails are annoying but give nature a chance to diversify in your area and you'll usually have less of a problem with them since multiple species can compete.

    Plot twist: These specieses won't come back and the current animals in this world won't evolve the same anymore.

    • @emiliohidalgo5927

      Species is already a plural word xD
      Also:
      Evolution is neverending process, life always adapts to new times and environments, and species tend to fill in the role of another that went extinct. So yeah, there won't be any lions or tigers in the wild in a million years from now, but other animals might have taken their place.

    We really need to start working together. The time is running up, and we are doing pretty much nothing about the climate change..

      Overpopulation, development...it's a mess all around. Even just a few million humans managed to kill off almost all of the megafauna.

      ASHERUISE The megafauna probably would still be here today, probably smaller, if we didn’t hunt them. The mammoths and giant ground sloths would have died pff because the ice age ended, but the others would probably be here.
