I'm happy to hear that the video was useful for you. Good luck with your project. It's a fun unit to work on especially if you enjoy tube gear. I did eventually replace the bias oscillator tube on my Sony but the record feature still doesn't work. I need to open it up and troubleshoot the record circuit.
@@mguess Thank you so much. My machine arrived today. It's very dirty so I did not expect signs of life. However, I got it running and played a tape. Loud humming when powered on, and when FORWARD is selected, the mechanical knocking sounds like a tractor! I will open it up and see what oiling, greasing and some TLC can do. I am not knowledgeable about electronics, just the basics, but I have a friend here who can help. I will test the recording to see if mine works. I found two Sony microphones in the case pouch. th-cam.com/video/qVV_KrGP0Eo/w-d-xo.html
Yep, pretty dirty. Kind of like mine when I first picked it up. Good score on the microphones, mine didn't come with any. The hum is probably bad filter capacitors in the power supply. The knocking sound may be worn idler wheels like in my Sony. Let me know how it goes with the restoration.
Thanks. After releasing the video I did reconnect the cut wires on the bias transformer. The bias oscillator tube is still missing. I'll replace the tube in the near future and test the record feature.
Thank you! I just bought one of these as a restoration project, so this is really useful guidance.

Do you want another one that's in good shape?
No thanks. One is all that I have room for.
