You know what freaks me out the most about this? The basic fact that Sarah is doing something completely understandable for her situation, calling her friend to help her because she's worried she's being stalked by a murderer...but doesn't know at all that not only are her friends dead, _she's unknowingly telling the killer where she is (and that it isn't her that the Terminator just killed) and how to find her_ The idea of trying to do something that it makes sense to do, but it unknowingly _helping endanger you further_ terrifies me. As well as that the only "person" listening to Sarah is the Terminator sent to kill her, and she has _no idea or way to know that at all_
It always made me wonder what would have happened to the timeline if Matt had accidentally broken the answering machine or phone and Sarah hung up. What if the T800 THOUGHT it had killed Sarah...
@@largol33t1 Certainly gets one wondering... Guesses would be it would either do what it could to further engineer and aid Skynet from within the past, or shut down.
Plus, the advice the detectives give her (stay in a crowd, be in a well lit, open place) is all sound advice for avoiding a stalker...but her stalker doesn't care about being seen or collateral damage.
Just remember that the t800 is living flesh over a chassis. It acts like a human and even blinks. The blinking while firing is a small price to pay when the fact Arnold is genuinely terrifying in this comes into play. The sunglasses were drawn in the original concept art. It has nothing to do with blinking but rather to stop the t800s bright eyes from showing after the damage.
I like to think this a full infiltration unit designed to act like a human being but without having the possibility to mimic any being encountered unlike the T1000. The T800 flesh was made to react like a normal body hence the eyes blinking which the T1000 does not need because his body can perfectly reproduce anybody encountered and also their body reactions when needed.
Nobody mentions enough how much of a badass Matt was. He wakes up to see a guy PUNCH A HOLE THROUGH THE MATTRESS. And his response is to attack him. And then he gets thrown into a mirror. And he gets BACK up and goes at him again! Props for defending your gal, dude. They set him up as this goofy Anthony Michael Hall seeming guy but he must've been a Green Beret or something..
I noticed that also. He went immediately on the offensive, gets thrown through glass and goes right back at him when he could have jumped off the balcony and gotten the hell out of there. Looks like he went for the legs and probably knocked the T-800 down. He lasted about 20 seconds-well enough for anyone in nothing but Fruit of the Looms. Not sure if they confirm whether he was knocked out or killed.
The attention to detail in this movie is so underrated. 3:42 you see the laser go straight to the telephone like clockwork, no jerky movements or anything. All one motion just like a MACHINE
Notice how he fully believes at some point he actually killed Sarah, yet the very first thing he does is reloads his weapon. Instead of "lemmy find new purpose in life, name myself Karl and do drapery". You'd have to be a fool to think SkyNet didn't load him with complete instruction set on what to do next.
No way dude if anything it would self destruct or shut down, skynet would not be dumb enough to let the humans having their hands on a terminator potentially ruining skynet from ever happening. The terminator must have had some sort of communication with skynet from the future, how else would it know if it's task was done? The terminator knew it couldn't go back to the future so it must have relayed it somehow to skynet. Either that or he literally waited all those years in hiding to tell skynet it was a success if he had succeeded in killing sarah
@@ExitonD that's what i meant by relaying messages, the terminator talking to skynet from the future. I'm saying that had he been successful in killing sarah conor, the terminator must have contacted skynet from the future to tell them that he completed his task. Therefore skynet must have ordered the terminator to self destruct or shut down in order for the terminator not to get into human hands.
Listen carefully when the Terminator throws Matt at the door at 3:04 - it sounds like a gunshot, and the Terminator is already holding his pistol. In addition, he shoots Ginger a total of six times (one in the hallway and five to execute her), making a total of seven shots if you count what sounds like a shot against Matt. The AMT Hardballer pistol he uses here holds a total of seven rounds, further supported by the fact that the Terminator reloads the pistol after killing Ginger. Not only is this great attention to detail for the pistol's ammo capacity, but it also means that Matt actually gave the Terminator enough trouble for the latter to just say "fuck this" and resort to the pistol to finish him off quick because he kept getting back up. Matt really was the MVP of this scene here.

a terminator cannot self-exterminate. That said, an implicit side mission of this terminator is to ensure the existence of the skynet through its remains. So I think a priority for Arnold is to stay "alive."
I always figured the t-800 would just travel to skynet/cyberdyne systems and walk in there thus quickening the time it takes for skynet to reach its full potential
For those who think it is impossible for Mat to tackle the t800 with the leg grab because of the weight of the terminator it's not. Whether it's 400 or 1000 pounds. The t800 was just standing there with his legs close to each other when Mat grabbed him and that would have made it easier for Mat to knock it off balance. Mat pushed on the lower body and legs which is the easiest why to knock anyone over plus the terminator is built like human and so could fall from this move. Also Mat didn't successfully tackle it to the ground it looks as though the t800 was about to loose balance but didn't and then proceeded to throw him. The camera cut out a little too quick there that it's hard to see it.
Pretty sure in the original Cameron movies, the T800s don't weigh much more than a human of their typical size since they have to pass as human beings. If the terminators weighed more than that the resistance could have more easily determined who was a terminator or not.
RIP Matt, it was cool seeing him show courage against an intruder but sad knowing he didn't stand a chance against a killing machine. This is why this movie rocks.
Are you saying this because The Terminator came after Matt and Ginger did the deed and was sad and jealous so he loses his shit and kills both of them because he received no action? 😂 Jk
Exactly...i think T800 weights around 300kg...ish? What's the exact weight anyway? Has it been told ever? Actually I just looked it up...mostly it says the T800 weights around 400-600lbs so that's about 180-270kgs.
@@Petothegreatone Here's a video about someone who built a real size T-800 model made of aluminium. And its weight is 135 kg. The thing that got me about this fight is that you don't see what's going on in between the cut scenes. You see Matt getting tossed around, but you don't know what happened before that. In addition, with each scene you see Matt getting progressively weaker. It's just great directing by Cameron because so much is left to the imagination.
A terminator is strong enough to punch through concrete so a single direct punch to the head would easily kill him. Only reason it didn’t kill kyle was he was hit more with a hard slap plus the terminator was pretty banged up at that point so it’s motors may not have been full strength
My favourite part is when Arnie turns to listen to the voice msg. His reaction to hearing Sarah’s voice js immediate and the way he stares at the phone with that cold emotionless her stoic facial expression. It’s just so badass. Arnie was born to be the terminator.
Reese was good at protecting Sarah because he had versed t800s before a lot but Matt he went toe to toe with one had little knowledge of what it was got thrown through a glass door and mirror and still got back up and fought back Lets raise a glass to our boy matt for being a all around badass
There’s something about being helplessly tossed around like a rag doll by a 200 lbs 6’2 robot that is literally designed to kill people and feels no remorse whatsoever is horrifying
If the Terminator only weighted 200 lbs Matt would've tossed him out the house lol the Terminator weighs between 400-600lbs a bit more difficult to manage
Everyone saying it would have been impossible for him to lift a 400lb terminator, it's physics. He's not exactly lifting the terminators full 400lb weight straight up, he's hooking the legs and driving his own body forwards, using the weight of the terminator against him. Thus he is able to seemingly lift him from the ground for a moment by taking his legs out from under him. It's perfectly possible.
One of the most effective and horrifying scenes in cinema. This is definitely a slasher but with a cyborg and guns. Everything about this film is done so well, it has a very strong voice and impeccable style.
@George Thomas most likely looks and muscle and Arnold in general unfortunately many people never get the recognition they deserve. Arnold does indeed but everyone else too
I'm surprised this scene isn't talked about more often. I mean, Matt was able to last longer in an unarmed fight against a Terminator, than most of the Human Resistance armed to the teeth. He even tackled him hard enough to make him stumble. I used to wonder why the Humans would eventually be victorious despite seeing them get slaughtered left and right during war scenes. Now I know. Because even when we're laying nearly naked, tired and without any weapons save for what we can get our hands on, we don't know when to quit. That fighting spirit Matt had against the Terminator, defines why the humans win.
i remember being a small kid watching this movie...so many uncomfortable scenes... its unsettling how the T800 just busts into peoples place and kills them... and don't get me started on the being trapped claustrophobic parts...this movie never lets u relax... its a masterpiece of tension and emotion
Even Matt was in himself a very underrated and under appreciated character, what he brought was some lightheartedness to an otherwise very grim and dark story, being a horndog boyfriend that wasn't the least bit unlikeable, I mean there's guys that are just funny then there's guys that are creeps but he was just being a guy who made an error any of us would that's only human, it was absolutely a credit to the success of this film and just great vintage Cameron doing great passionate work. He knew he had to lighten the mood somewhere down the line or make everything slightly too depressing.
One of my favourite little details in this movie is when the answering machine goes off, you see the laser pointer on his gun immediately go to the speaker on the phone, the exact source of the sound. It really shows how advanced the terminator's senses are to be able to pinpoint the exact location of a sound and aim directly at it
3:55 I can’t watch this scene ever again without hearing the synthwave. If you know what i’m talking about, then you’re a person of culture and I love your soul.
there's moments in history where timing is ripe with the right level of talent, creativity, environment etc. also its theorized that the studio execs at the time were more flexible in the sense ok let's take a chance on it see if it sells. the later execs (baby boomers) were the ones that kind of fixed on if they don't like it it doesn't sell or something like that
Even though the T-800 made it look like he was fighting a toddler, I still give Matt props for not backing down, and having the balls to try to fight the thing
Imagine being the actress of Ginger and saying to the people you were in one of the greatest scifi movies ever made....also Matt was also in Top Gun & Roxanne
I've been seeing a lot of comments on here talking crap about the guy. Dude, he went hand-to-hand with a freakin' Terminator and lasted a little while, sustaining major injuries. I'd say, he did pretty good, also considering he just woke up, fighting almost naked, and had absolutely no idea this monstrosity was a machine.
Terminator was going to let Matt live, he knows that matt isn’t Sarah and not a threat. But then he saw that Matt likes to fuck with socks on and that sealed his fate. Poor Matt.
The girl at the door was probably up to her tenth person for the night claiming that to avoid the door charge. You have to draw the line somewhere as a business owner.
Negan from The Walking Dead would be impressed with the way Matt lasted against the Terminator. He would say one of his famous quotes: "😀 TAKING IT LIKE A CHAMP!"
These actors: Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton, and Rick Rossovich were in a lot of movies together. Too bad James Cameron didn't utilized Rick better. Remember: he was Slider in Top Gun.
Matt is the man, the fact he chose to fight with T-800 is pretty impressive. Terminator is a big size mascular chap, but Matt wasn't scared, he didn't runaway or even call for help. His reaction was also a bit unsual, he said "don't make me bust you up man", that's pretty hillirous as he was ready for a fight. A normal person would at least tries to find out what's happening and why he was in that room?
T1: “A true definition of of SCI-FI with some horror elements” T2: “ A perfect SCI-Fi action movie with a terrifying message of what will happen if we let technology or AI takes over our lives. Plus a father-son moments John has with the Terminator.” Sequels: Not as original, some are good, and yet others a letting the franchise down the drain like Dark Fate.
AJ Thomas, Terminator 1 was a horror/sci-fi film created for the reasons why technology should never be expanded otherwise this happens. The Terminator is still a classic sci-fi horror action element film. And is the one of the best first that came out in 84. Terminator 2 was Alright, it didn't have the horror element as the first one did. It had action and a story to continue upon afterwards. T3 was more where it started getting serious especially when someone who looks deeper into the story starts to understand it gets that It starts to make sense. Terminator 1 and 2 and 3 will never be outmatched. Genisys and dark fate are alternate timelines that are non canon even if james Cameron considers dark fate to be canon after T2, dark fate is not canon because of John Connors death which he wasted a character all entirely after that whole scenario in T2 and T1 for nothing. T3 kept him alive at least. Instead of dark fate replacing him. At least T3 gets it right. Salvation is a not a bad sequel after T3. It attempts at being James Cameron's future war. But is not at all a bad film. It incorporates T-600 models stated by Kyle Reese in the first film. It introduced the harvesters models and motorbike terminators. Hunter killers went from large to small. But it's still the same. It only fell down with genisys and dark fate after salvation. It would of been great if salvation got a sequel. Which calling it "Terminator salvation 2" plots based on the prequel before T1 happens. Send Kyle back to 1984 again and that's where T1 starts all over again. Which means reset the future. For the franchise. Not a bad plot for a salvation sequel.

With the rest of the line, even T3 is starting to look good now - Ugh I feel so dirty now and it's not coming off
You know what freaks me out the most about this? The basic fact that Sarah is doing something completely understandable for her situation, calling her friend to help her because she's worried she's being stalked by a murderer...but doesn't know at all that not only are her friends dead, _she's unknowingly telling the killer where she is (and that it isn't her that the Terminator just killed) and how to find her_
The idea of trying to do something that it makes sense to do, but it unknowingly _helping endanger you further_ terrifies me.
Good thing it's only a movie. ;-)
I never liked how Arnie blinked everytime he shot. It makes you appreciate Robert Patrick's performance even more.
Yeah, he had problem with that. Thats why they agree that Arnie wear glasses :). He did better job in t2 tho.
@@DrumCoversFromHell I buy that.
Wasn't T-1000 model far more advanced than the T-800? Maybe that's why T-1000 never blinked when shooting a gun?
Nobody mentions enough how much of a badass Matt was. He wakes up to see a guy PUNCH A HOLE THROUGH THE MATTRESS. And his response is to attack him. And then he gets thrown into a mirror. And he gets BACK up and goes at him again! Props for defending your gal, dude. They set him up as this goofy Anthony Michael Hall seeming guy but he must've been a Green Beret or something..
He was in Roxanne with Steve Martin and Darryl Hannah as well...had a pretty good acting career.
I believe in the police station they said he died as well.
Yeah he definitely died. They said it at the police station. Now I realize where I've seen him at. Streets of Fire and Navy Seals..

The attention to detail in this movie is so underrated. 3:42 you see the laser go straight to the telephone like clockwork, no jerky movements or anything. All one motion just like a MACHINE
Well, the telephone says "you are talking to a machine. Seconds later, Sarah speaks and gives the adress where she is, to a machine. Nice touch
I just thought the same. Excellent technical direction in this movie.
Thanks. Never notice
His next missions were probably to take out John Connor's lieutenants/generals
@@PoorMansArsenal I was thinking more along the lines of "give scientists helpfull hints on creating AI".

Matt was an total badass to fight for so long that the terminator had to use a pistol to kill him.

Dude, because Arnie doesnt weight 1000 pounds.
It looks like he knocks him over which is possible. People lift cars in crazy situations. Plus he had perfect form for a double leg takedown.
T800 certainly doesn’t weigh 1000 pounds. It would be unable to drive motorcycles at that weight
As anyone who plays rugby will tell you!
Pretty sure in the original Cameron movies, the T800s don't weigh much more than a human of their typical size since they have to pass as human beings.
If the terminators weighed more than that the resistance could have more easily determined who was a terminator or not.

@@williamshaw9047 his peak was Roxanne with Steve Martin
What was that police series he was in..ride bikes at the beach or something...and Roxanne

Matt ain't scared of no man!! Unfortunately the thing he was facing was no man...
I gotta say, Matt stood his ground but he was murdered in his briefs. That’s gotta suck
🤣
T1: “A true definition of of SCI-FI with some horror elements”
T2: “ A perfect SCI-Fi action movie with a terrifying message of what will happen if we let technology or AI takes over our lives. Plus a father-son moments John has with the Terminator.”
Sequels: Not as original, some are good, and yet others a letting the franchise down the drain like Dark Fate.
T3 decent movie
T4 Salvation not bad
T5 WTF is this shit
T6 OMG is much worse than previous
Everything past T2 is fanfiction with a Hollywood budget.
@@RM2011ish T5 and T6 are total garbage when comes the story but action is not bad like transformers type movies
DF was better than the other films. There, I said it
