Its seems like yesterday, I didn't have a care in the world, and enjoyed watching these characters, and now there gone, but fast forward Clough was before his time, and as he predicted it was a good deal, the game is unrecognisable.

Growing up watching these on the TV was a special time in football when, football wasn't corrupt to the core by greedy owners, business ppl & TV companies.
I hope Greavsie has recovered a bit by now. His record as top scorer in the top 4 European leagues was only recently beaten by Ronaldo - who took a year longer. Plus Jimmy played for mid table clubs, not European titans. Clough is the best English goals per game record holder 259 in 271. His lament was that he'd score 4 but the defence would concede 5. Another age.
I always like hearing the story of Clough being accused of being too dictatorial in his style. And I remember loving hearing his response which was, 'well, whenever that happens, we sit down we have an indepth converservation, and then we decide i was right...!' To me that was typical Clough, rude but with a smile on his face lol

As a Man Utd fan I’ll always hold Fergie as the very best but honestly I think Brian Clough edges him ,a great manger at the right time , can you imagine today’s footballers under him .
What Clough achieved in those first five years at Nottingham Forest will probably never be repeated. This is hindsight but based on Derby and Nottingham Forest I think Clough was a troubleshooter. He took two teams with players of varying ability from nowhere to champions. Perhaps he should have left Nottingham Forest for a similar type of club languishing in mid-table obscurity in the old second division.
Liverpool fan. Quite honestly, I can't imagine Fergie with today's players. Today's players are soft. He had men playing for him, not boys. I think this is why Mourinho has struggled over the last few years - players can't cope with a bollocking.
As a Nottingham Forest supporter, I’m glad he never got the England job in 1977, because if he and Peter Taylor had gone,Forest might well have missed out on the success of winning the league title and league cup in 1978, retaining the league cup and Winning the European cup in 1979 and retaining the European cup in 1980.A new manager may well have ripped that team apart and brought his own players in.Having said that,I still think Cloughie should have got the England job in 1982,after the World Cup in Spain.Cloughie was such a dynamic manager who wouldn’t have taken any nonsense and would have put plenty of noses out of joint, especially with the FA.And that’s why he didn’t get the job.Because the FA would have been shitting themselves at Cloughie’s bombastic manner. He would have upset plenty of people. When you think of the players we had available after 1982.The likes of Glenn Hoddle,Bryan Robson,Kevin Keegan( who Bobby Robson discarded too early),Terry Butcher,Viv Anderson,Peter Shilton,Steve Coppell,Trevor Francis,Tony Woodcock, etc, etc,we were awash with talent.I do think,no I believe with Cloughie at the helm,we could have got to a final under his management.

He was a great manager, but he had a drink problem towards the end. People rave about Fergie, but this guy took a struggling second division side to two European Cup wins in three seasons, in an era when only the champions qualified. Took SAF 14 years, starting from a top 6 side.
