Best Pizza in Naples, Italy Travel Food Video Transcript:
We have just arrived here in Naples and we are in town on a mission. Our mission is simple. To eat as much pizza as possible. Pizza was my favorite food growing up and we are visiting Naples the birthplace of pizza (Neapolitan pizza). We've got two days here. Our goal is to try and hit up five different pizzerias. We've searched the best of the best. We're going to visit them all and then we're going to rank them and let you know what our favorite one is. Let's eat pizza.
We are now approaching our first pizzeria of the day. It is just down the street. We're going to be eating at L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele. It is one of the most famous pizzerias in the whole city because they filmed a scene of Eat, Pray, Love here with Julia Roberts when she comes to Naples to devour pizza.
We're going to be ordering two kinds of pizza. We are planning to go for the margherita and marinara.
Wow! Is one way to describe that pizza experience. So it was delicious. It was amazing. It was huge. It was crowded.
It is time for our second pizza of the day. We have come to Port'Alba which has the distinction of being one of the oldest pizzerias in all of Naples. This one dates back to 1738.
Third pizzeria here in Naples and right now yes we're at Di Matteo. There is a huge crowd. At Di Matteo they are really popular for their street food. Like street pizza. We got a fried pizza and I got al forno which is in the oven - basically a folded margherita. Calling it portafoglio because it has been folded in four.
Pizza number 2 at Di Matteo was the fried variety. Pizza frita. It cost 1.50 Euros.
This is our forth pizzeria here in Naples called El Pizzeria Dal Presidente. We ordered the pizza margherita and a fried one with salami, pomodoro and two kinds of cheese.
We are at pizza place five of five at a place called La Cantina Dei Mille right by the train station.
We are feeling pretty stuffed. 10 pizzas in 2 days. That is a lot of pizza.
That was an insane pizza taste test in Naples. We got to try the best pizzas in the whole city (pizza Napoletana) and that makes me happy because I love pizza. We hope you guys enjoyed following along on this pizza adventure in Naples (pizza Napoletana). Ciao.
This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine.

you speak of one of the oldest cities is a museum, it's sea,

then if you want to talk about food it is also a large part of the Italian cuisine of Naples, made of spaghetti alle vongole, or a parmiggiana di melenzane, or fiori di zucca impanate con ricotta, or sartù di riso, pasta è fagioli con cozze ,and try Neapolitan pastry. is the

You have just had me salivating from the first to the last ... Italy, Roma was where I first tasted pizza way back in '68 , most Australians didn't even know what it was back then ... the Italian thing had not really started as a wide spread cuisine commercially .... Thank God for the French , German , Italian and other eastern European peoples who came to down under in those days ... we would have all been living on meat and three veg ...... You two are a class act , keep it up x

Da Michelle is great but you missed the best; 50 Kalo, Concettina ai 3 Santi, Starita, D’Atillio, Umberto, Casa de Rinaldi in Vomero, and of course SORBILLO! How is it possible that you didn’t eat at Sorbillo!?

    • @sid294
      @sid294 5 ปีที่แล้ว

If you missed Sorbillo in Naples, they have a franchise in NYC as well. Tastes exactly the same! Also Sorbillo in Naples is usually overcrowded so so not worth the jostling when literally all the spots around taste the same.

Great video, guys. And a fine selection of restaurants. I would highly recommend Pizzeria da Attilio in Pignasecca, a small lively neighbourhood sandwiched between Via Toledo and the Spanish quarter. They are famous for their star-shaped pizzas, where inside each point of the star is fresh ricotta. They are also known for doing one of the best margheritas in the city. When I go to Naples I stay very close to Di Matteo's, and I don't think I've ever passed without handing them my hard-earned one euro fifty...

Great video guys! I definitely agree that Naples serves up some of the best pizzas I've ever tasted. My family and I were in Italy JAN 2020 and a cousin took us to Spaccanapoli, the street that traverses the old historic center of the city. I can't remember the name of the Pizzeria but the place was packed, ground floor and upper level. Most pizzas were $4 Euro each and they were massive. I'm pretty sure they used a sourdough base. Absolutely delicious!!! Can't wait to go back some day.

I wanted to try L'Antica Pizzeria Da Michele but ended up going to Pizzeria 'Ntretella and it is such a hidden gem! I had the Melanzane Pizza without cheese (I was vegan at the time) and it was absolutely incredible. The staff as very nice there as well and it's a bit off the beaten path so not as crowded as some of the other more well known spots. Highly recommend for next time!

Most foreigners don't realize that pizza was not meant to be good, but to help you survive, it's part of "cucina dei poveri". The pizza you guys eat is for sure much better now than it used to be back in the days. The ingredients added were not so well studied like it is done today, instead they were ingredients that people had available in the house. Hope it makes sense, have a wonderful stay!

I am very surprised to see that the #1 pizzeria in Naples is using Sunflower oil instead of the traditional extra virgin olive oil. If you freeze at 1:44 you can see it on the ingredients list. Freeze again at 1:53 and you will see the oil he is using is very light, too light to be extra virgin olive oil. Can anyone locally confirm why this is? I've never seen this before and can only assume perhaps it's cheaper?

Hello cd, I am napoletano and live in Naples. The extra virgin olive oil is a little bitter and heavy, not good for the pizza, even mixing it with simple the olive oil, but with the sunflower oil is good the same and is lighter. The Neapolitan women instead use the extra virgin olive oil mixed with other oils when they make the pizza at home

Thank You for your beautiful video in my city! I would say that the pizzas standards are quite high, and if a pizzeria doesn't keep them, it will close down in few months!. That's why when a want a pizza (quite often, i would say), i pick the first ones that i meet. But i can understand that a tourist wants to go to Michele, or to Sorbillo. Before the "julia roberts" movie, michele was already considered one of the best pizzeria in the city, and you got to wait a while, but now, it's almost impossible to get in. Stateve buono Guagliù!
