I was 6 in 1979 and I remember loving this song when it came on the radio in my mother's car but even though I rediscovered most of those songs long ago, I somehow missed this one until yesterday. I heard a snippet in a TH-cam video about the top 5 songs for one week in '79 and this was one of them. Sure enough, it all came back to me - probably 40 years since I last heard it. I love it but can't figure out how I never came across it before now. I'm just glad that I did!
This song still sounds just as good in 2024 as it did back in 1979 when I was 10 years old! Thankful to have grown up listening to real music in the 70’s and 80’s. The best of times ☮️ 🕊️
The deep analogue sound of what sounds like a Moog keyboard gives the song warmth and depth. This is music and melody with the most amazing Stevie Nicks on backing vocals... You can tell what the times were like when you hear songs like this and I wish we were back there.
I don't think that's a synth bass on this track. That sounds liek a plain regular bass guitar (or "Fender bass" as the LA studio arrangers used to call it).

And while $2.54 would be an odd about, normally people would say that a person makes a certain about of money "per" hour, not "for" an hour! I turned 50 on December 14 and I remember when people actually worked pumping gas! I heard the minimum wage priced that job out of the market! By the way, I just calculated it and $2.50 in 1979 is the equivalent of $9.01 today!
@@leczorn I actually worked at a full service gas station in High School, class of '80, so this song came out while I was working pumping gas. That lyric caught my attention back then because the owner of the station took care of us, $3.50 per hour, and some of the customers tipped us for checking the oil, cleaning the windows, filling the tires. It was actually a good job for a high school kid.

It's a shame that so many jobs that were good for young kids have been largely eliminated. I graduated from high school in 1989, and it wonder what it would've been like had I been 10 years earlier. Certainly, I would've enjoyed a lot of fantastic music when it came out, rather than discovering it many years later! And one other thing, if Jim Bass was working near Los Angeles and making $2.50 an hour, that wouldn't go very far with that cost of living! And while $2.54 would be an odd about, normally people would say that a person makes a certain about of money "per" hour, not "for" an hour! I turned 50 on December 14 and I remember when people actually worked pumping gas! I heard the minimum wage priced that job out of the market! By the way, I just calculated it and $2.50 in 1979 is the equivalent of $9.01 today!
@@leczorn I actually worked at a full service gas station in High School, class of '80, so this song came out while I was working pumping gas. That lyric caught my attention back then because the owner of the station took care of us, $3.50 per hour, and some of the customers tipped us for checking the oil, cleaning the windows, filling the tires. It was actually a good job for a high school kid.
@@sydneycarton9973 Thanks for that very interesting information! I'm glad that your boss took such good care of you! It's a shame that so many jobs that were good for young kids have been largely eliminated. I graduated from high school in 1989, and it wonder what it would've been like had I been 10 years earlier. Certainly, I would've enjoyed a lot of fantastic music when it came out, rather than discovering it many years later! And one other thing, if Jim Bass was working near Los Angeles and making $2.50 an hour, that wouldn't go very far with that cost of living! And with the references to California and Kanan, it's likely that Jim was in that area!

Ok, how was this one of my favourite on the radio tracks ( and this is Rage! I’m an Aussie), and having pretty much worn my copy of Rumours flat back in the day, how did I not know this was Stevie Nicks on backing vocals? Til 2020? Bloody hell..but nice surprise, I’d forgotten about this song.
Another old gem Stevie sings backup on is Walter Edgans Magnet & steel. It was actually written about her because Walter had a crush on her.
