For those of you who've not seen much of Morrowind I cannot recommend the epic long running Fathis LP by Sorcerer Dave enough. @@imtoogoodatpvp1252 gixg17 is playing since 2009 and still hasn't finished the main quest. But as a Oblivion player he has some nice thoughts about Morrowinds unique points. I would recommend his LP.
Mages from Skyrim couldn't even cast their way out of a locked room. Mages from Oblivion could at least open locks with a spell, and mages from Morrowind could do the same, or teleport with at least three different methods. I also love that Skyrim added the clairvoyance spell, which is made completely meaningless thanks to their "quest markers for idiots"
This could be applied to most games series that is over 25 years old. The rage the zoomer would have over playing the original Street Fighter would be amazing.
As an actual slyrim starter playing my first game of morrowind i can proudly say my furst death was to tbe 4 telvani agents in carlerl mine. Apoarently buying equipment that matches your skill is an unheard of mechanic.
You can also click the square in the upper right corner to keep the box active in thr viewport when you switch back to the gameplay, so you can e.g. keep the world map open in any size you wish if you don't like the minimap
Jokes aside. As a person who have Skyrim as his favourite game of all time and started playing TES games from Skyrim I can say - that Morrowind is a majestic and wonderful game and I had absolute blast playing it.
That's what I think the "Sky Babies" BS and MW Simps keep forgetting, on both sides of the aisle. Let me give a comparison. There are four "Shrek" movies. The third is widely considered the worst, and the second the best. I personally loved the third one more than the first and the fourth, but the second was my favorite. -but here's the thing. There is no such thing as a bad "Shrek" movie. Every movie is above par from the average and is a high quality production. Fans of the series are so spoiled and exposed to such quality content that their idea of "bad" is gruesomely warped. The same goes here. Bethesda has put out a series of games so good that even the "worst" of them is still a fantastic game. "Morrowind" fans bashing "Skyrim" forget that they are so spoiled by Bethesda that their idea of a "bad game" is still, compared to other games, a fantastic piece of work.
The second I fell in love with Morrowind was when I was being sent out of town and instead of a quest marker I got directions And those directions could be easily followed with real world logic So I prepared for my journey and thought maybe I should get some cure disease and blight potions I slapped down a mark so I could recall to my quest giver later I then went to venture out but stopped and thought for a second and realized I was thinking exactly as my character would be in this world I was immersed before the quest had truly even begun Edit: the way this game puts you in the right mindset is done so immaculately Graphics and all be damned I played on the Xbox one because I don't have a PC yet
I think the absence of Quest Markers was one of "Morrowind's" worst features, but in my opinion, it does not in any way detract from what is and continues to be the most immersive game I have ever played. I never played any other ES game before I tried "Morrowind" this very year, and I am having the absolute time of my life. My favorite part is all of the READING. I slurp up every single point of dialog and have read every book I have opened. I cannot remember a more immersive game, and the best part is that this dedication to immersion has continued in every ES game succeeding "Morrowind".
@@joecarlson699 Everything is specially marked for you so you don't have to explore to find anything, any skills are made available to you so you don't have to actually commit by choosing a class, the entirety of the lore is handed to you on a silver platter and spelled out like you're an actual child who can't piece together clues for yourself.... shall I go on?
@@hyperboreanarchives7299 I definitely get where you're coming from on the lore/quest journal point, I do think at times it can be oversimplified. In terms of actual gameplay and game mechanics though, Skyrim is far more advanced and detailed than Morrowind and Oblivion. Just because Skyrim includes things like map markers and a HUD w/ compass, doesn't mean that it's making the game easier. If you don't want to look at the map or have an on-screen compass, then you can make it so that neither of them are toggled/utilized. I would rather have a game with more features that the player can turn off if they want a challenge, than a game where none of those things are present.
@@joecarlson699 More advanced and detailed? Certainly not. You mean more streamlined, flashy and (admittedly in terms of combat) fluid. Morrowinds mechanics faaar exceed the complexity of it's successors, and it makes sense it takes literally everything you do and every choice you make into account as it's based upon actual tabletop RPG mechanics. Also I think we all know Morrowind is far more challenging mentally as well as in terms of forcing you to take creative approaches to combat out of sheer necessity, not just because you're bored of killing things in the same exact way over and over.
Morrowind blew my mind all those years ago. It was my first RPG and I wasn’t used to roaming around and picking my own path. It was really really immersive for me, specially the map directions lol I never got to finish it, but I have a lot of fond memories of getting lost and trying to run away from bandits. Lol

The funniest thing is that Skyrim itself has already become old school like Morrowind at one time. so between them 10 years have passed, and recently the anniversary re-release of Skyrim was released in honor of its tenth anniversary
I remember first playing this game back in 2005, man what a steep learning curve that was :D I think it took to me about 4 new games till I finally made a character that doesn't die when two scribs attack him. But it opened a door for me and I haven't looked back since and to this day Morrowind is my favorite Elder Scrolls game. So pumped for Skywind :D
As someone who started with Morrowind, this reminds me a lot of what my younger brother's first attempt was like. The Greybeards did not prepare him well-enough for this.
My PC stopped working while I was watching this video (you know, when you can only reboot it and you hear loud as fuck buzzing?) and I thought this was a part of the vid. "Yep, true Morrowind experience". I was sitting there for like 5 seconds, enduring the horrific sounds in my headphones, until I understood that my PC shat itself. After that revelation, the video became even better.
Wish this vid was longer! He didn't even get to see the combat system where he swings 50 times only to hit once or twice versus a scrib! And then get chased by cliffracers lol
Lol it's all true. I'm not a zoomer but Oblivion was my first ES. I've tried to play Morrowind but every time I'm like wtf is happening, haha. I'm trying again right now and it took me dozens of tries to kill one fucking guy because I had no idea your stam affected your hit chance, lol.
If you are looking for a good guide for beginners in Morrowind This one is a good one. Is called Hitchhiker's guide to Morrowind. It has a lot of good information but she doesn't bore you with a lot of math when she explains things. Honestly one of the best Morrowind guides I have ever seen. th-cam.com/video/Kr225HWLWcs/w-d-xo.html . As far as the fatigue thing. Is good to remember that in Morrowind fatigue effects almost everything. Even things you wouldn't think would be. Sometimes a restore fatigue potion is just as important as a healing potion is. It isn't like Skyrim or even Oblivion where you can just ignore it. Would also recommend that new players stick to their class when it comes to weapons. That free dagger is a trap if your character isn't built for short blade. The starter village has free weapons of various types laying around for the taking or if you return the ring to Fargoth the shop in town will give you a good discount on the weapons and armor of your choice. So if your character isn't built for a weapon type don't use that weapon type unless you have paid a trainer and learned how to use it. While I am talking about Trainers, unlike Skyrim in Morrowind you are not limited on training a certain amount per level. So providing you wanted to invest the gold into it. There is no reason in theory you couldn't master every weapon or skill in the game even if the initial character isn't built for it.
Tbh, I love morrowind, I played it for the first time this year and some of the more tedious elements really are fun to experience, not to mention looking for goals based on directions really helped me feel more fulfilled. It's a world that is designed to be explored and I freaking love it.
"I did not know there was a third game" Oh my god, too right. Do you know how many times I've unironically had to explain to people that there were TES games pre-oblivion? It's like they can't fucking read and have no deductive reasoning skills. This one time I literally had to sit down a 40 some odd year old man and tell him that Fallout 3 was a sequel to the other Fallout games. He literally thought the game was just called "Fallout 3" and was a standalone original work.
The Boomer walks in and sees that he is playing "Morrowind", and crying because he sucks at it. The Boomer sits down, explains it to him, and shows him some graphics Mods and bug fixes. After he calms down and gets a hang of it, he's hooked. 'Wow! This game is actually incredible!"
Funny that Morrowind was considered back in 2002 ahead of its time. Compared to today of course it looks like a GIF almost. One thing it still has though that other titles never did, its still considered the best story driven and best RPG. Oblivion and Skyrim were to much hack-n-slash. Morrowind actually expected to roleplay your character otherwise the game would get very tedious after awhile. How times of changed.😥
I will admit. For someone who played so much Skyrim and Oblivion before when I tried to get into Morrowind it was quite hard. It wasn't a game I was wanting to dislike but just with the whole needing to follow the finer details and only knowing where to go though the dialogue. I mean. I love that idea, its a fun idea and I love it when games do it. Some parts I really did love figuring out where to go and what I had to find but in the end it just got a bit much for. I still do revisit the game for little chunks and some lovely little immersion moments but mostly now just Oblivion and Skyrim
It's hard to enjoy morrowind to be honest, there's no navigation other than directions, it's a reading simulator and sword fighting is literally spam RNG.
Morrowind is a 10/10 game but the learning curve is ungodly steep. You need to Read, and Read, and Read to understand the mechanics. It is the true the more mechanical the game, the more fun but this game takes it a huge step.

For those of you who've not seen much of Morrowind I cannot recommend the epic long running Fathis LP by Sorcerer Dave enough. Its been going on for the better part of a decade now and its reached the final chapter. His Arthur LP for Oblivion is also fantastic, and significantly shorter by comparison.
Watched a lot of that playthrough but maaaan there are times where im just like "really dave" lol. Not a bad playthrough just gets sloooooow at times.
Curious, a 10 year play through? Sounds like an absolute journey, like Morrowind should be.
Yes! Dave is the man. I really like his approach to role-playing. Everything he does in game seems to be motivated by his character. If you’re into role-playing, I’d highly recommend checking out his channel. He’s done some cool Tamriel Rebuilt content too
Holy shit, someone mentioned Dave
His Skyrim playthrough is also great
@@imtoogoodatpvp1252 gixg17 is playing since 2009 and still hasn't finished the main quest.
Mages in Morrowind can also levitate, create a spell that's basically maginuke, and can wear multiple layers of clothes
This could be applied to most games series that is over 25 years old. The rage the zoomer would have over playing the original Street Fighter would be amazing.
Or the original Diablo with no waypoints and no run/walk toggle, speed changer
Ive played street fighter on a arcade . Got pissed off with the fact that the game used the same move over and over . Fucking lame
Tbf the original SF sucked even for the time so I wouldn't blame them. Now a zoomer shitting on SF2...that's blasphemy.
Or when they try to play fallout 2 and can't even make it past the tutorial.
Guessing you mean the original street fighter 2 because the 1st game was hard to find and was an absolute dog turd from the start.
Now have him try Battlespire.

Nah we'll leave that to Micky D

@@utarefson9 WHY WASN'T I TOLD THIS!
Jokes aside. As a person who have Skyrim as his favourite game of all time and started playing TES games from Skyrim I can say - that Morrowind is a majestic and wonderful game and I had absolute blast playing it.
got to say I'm not sure this guy has even played oblivion lol
Morrow wind was amazing when I was a kid. Very different gameplay
The second I fell in love with Morrowind was when I was being sent out of town and instead of a quest marker I got directions
And those directions could be easily followed with real world logic
So I prepared for my journey and thought maybe I should get some cure disease and blight potions
I slapped down a mark so I could recall to my quest giver later
I then went to venture out but stopped and thought for a second and realized I was thinking exactly as my character would be in this world
I was immersed before the quest had truly even begun
Edit: the way this game puts you in the right mindset is done so immaculately
Graphics and all be damned I played on the Xbox one because I don't have a PC yet

“WHY ISN’T EVERYTHING BEING DONE FOR ME?!?!?!?!?!???!?!?!!?!?!?!??”
What does this even mean? How does Skyrim “do everything” for the player?

The second they picked up the dagger...
Tbh, I love morrowind, I played it for the first time this year and some of the more tedious elements really are fun to experience, not to mention looking for goals based on directions really helped me feel more fulfilled. It's a world that is designed to be explored and I freaking love it.
I've played Morrowind for years.
"I did not know there was a third game"
Oh my god, too right. I mean, your not wrong. But if I ever met anyone like this I would give up on humanity right now
Funny that Morrowind was considered back in 2002 ahead of its time.
I grew up with Oblivion.
Haven't tried Morrowind yet, but am currently enjoying Daggerfall.
Skyrim zoomers would never have even touched Oblivion.

This is so well done. 😂😂
That's fine. I'm playing Morrowind and I enjoy it, but I admittedly look at the wiki and guides sometimes so I can figure out what to do.
