    -just put mine on this minute. Getting the hang of it is this: Not being afraid to put your fingers on the inside of the whole cushion and pulling. Not unlike changing a tire. I laughed to myself when it was done. Start at the side, not the top, to put them on. :) (mine were stock from Sennheiser)

      OEM always fits better. I am glad that you don't have any problems to put them on.

      @@codyscottmac February of '03. Just did the other one, as the second pad has been eroding for almost a year. This one was harder to do. (half hour)
      Sorry to diss the parent company but this must have been a bad batch during the beginning of the pandemic.
      Also, if you've ever tried to tighten the fan belt of a VW bug (with the cowling still on) you''ll know what I"m talking about.😥

    I had never done this before, so I watched the Sennheiser repair tech perform his poorly filmed super slick operation! So fast and no close-ups so as a novice you couldn't see what he was doing! I hadn't realised that material was stretched over the first ring, it just looked solid plastic to me. However, I then came here after giving up and nearly ripping my fav headphones apart to get the old covers off and all of a sudden it all made sense! So thank you so much for this vid. My 'new' headphones are comfy as ever tbh too! (And they are great headphones)

    The Sennheiser made replacement pads come a bit small like that as well. I found a video done by Sennheiser's repair tech and he actually stretched that elastic material a bit before feeding it into the groove.

    I had to struggle with my replacement. I couldn't get the outside rubber to stretch enough to slip into the channel. I got to the point where I was ready trash the whole deal. That's when I stretched the whole pad, foam and all over the frame. Then I tucked the foam back in with a small blade screw driver. Once I got the foam back behind the rubber, I was able to tuck the rubber into the channel.

    Big thanks to your video, I realized that the plastic ring cannot be removed, and part of the ear pads is hidden under it. I replace this with Generic and it's smaller but does not add much discomfort

    For anyone here hoping for info on Sennheiser HD 300 Pro's:
    The backs of the fabric cups have plastic rings on them. That's what you'll be prying from the cup of the headphones themselves.
    Try and get at them with your fingertips/nails. If you tear the fabric of the existing, bad fabric cups a bit, don't worry, you're not ruining anything.
    When you get your fingers in underneath the plastic the fabric cups are glued to, pry away. Don't worry, you're dislodging what the fabric cups are attached to.
    When they're out, orient your new fabric cups with the obvious plastic aimed into the cups and gently, but firmly press the new earpads into the cups of the headphones.
    If you did it correctly, your new earpads will have 'set' into the headphones. If not, the plastic rings from the defective earpads may still be in there and in need of removal.

    You *have* to buy off-brand replacements for these. After waiting a month, Sennheiser cancelled my order. And yeah, it's really tough to get the cups on, like stretching a latex balloon over something that is way too big.

    This is a design failure on Sennheiser's part. You will ruin the weak earpads in the process of stretching. The only sane solution is to snip a cut or two in the rubber ring. Once you get it around and tuck it in, the cuts should have no effect on it slipping off.

      almost like they want you to damage their earpads so you'll have to buy more sooner.

    1:08 how is the "under cushion" part look like?
    my cushions have been falling apart and under them the fabric-like material (seen in 1:40) became dust 😛 so idk if i should buy new headphones all together 😲

    • @VintageAudioFan
      @VintageAudioFan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don't have to buy new headphone if the drivers (headphone speakers) are still good. Just purchase the new cushions (headphone earpad) to replace the old one will be fine.

    I recently bought my pair (one month ago), it's normal that the ear pad plastic is already breaking/peeling off? I use them frequently too, almost all day. Does this changes the sound quality or something? Thanks in advance.

    • @VintageAudioFan
      @VintageAudioFan  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suggest to buy the OEM replacement If you use earphones frequently. The OEM products may cost more but they have better quality and are made according to manufacturer's specifications. They last longer and sound better.

      @@VintageAudioFan I've just replaced damaged ear-pads with a cheaper replacement ones and....unfortunately...my headphones started to sound like my cheaper Superlux - more contoured, less juicy mids that I was familiar with in these headphones. Seems like I need to buy original ear-pads anyway....so....don't waste your money. Unfortunately seems like ear-pads matter as much as any other element of the headphones.

    • @VintageAudioFan
      @VintageAudioFan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vawrzyn That is why OEM costs more to buy. Because they are made according to MFR's specifications. Better quality control and also sound better.

    • @vawrzyn
      @vawrzyn 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VintageAudioFan I realize this but sometimes particular element of gear is not critical for the tone itself. I was hoping ear-pads in this case would be the one...but it seems they are. Seems like the thicknes and shape of the foam affects the mid-range.
