    Always on point, Sam. You really captured the insanity & appeal of Oi Man Sang. It never ceases to amaze me how the wok masters just eyeball the portions and turn multiple orders out all at once non-stop; they must suffer from tennis elbow and mental withdrawal on their days off. Thank you for another great vlog!

    I always enjoy a good dai pai dong video. This place rocks for sure. It's interesting too that most of the seating is "indoors," in a dining room, rather than outside on the sidewalk. Oi Man Sang is almost like a restaurant in that regard...if not for the "kitchen" being exposed. I wonder how many of the remaining dai pai dongs are actually completely street-side and with only outdoor seating. Probably not many.

    • @HongKongHoods
      @HongKongHoods  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks as always @Vablonsky, this place is one of the best ones! Yeah, I think that they're just so busy that they can afford to rent the shop space around that area, so they've just turned basically the whole block into one big restaurant- it's pretty cool! As far as completely side-street DPD, I am not completely sure of the total, but I know for certain that the ones in Central near the mid-level escalator are, as is the one in Sheung Wan, the two in Tai Hang and a couple of the ones in Sham Shui Po!

    I could tell by the chefs (the two "wok stars"), seeing them in action, and the plated food that Oi Man Sang is top notch. I could tell that the beef was immaculately velveted and that the snow pea shoots were infused with flavor and wok hei. "Dou meiw," as the shoots are called, is a coveted seasonal specialty here in the United States too at Cantonese restaurants and can be a bit pricey because of the demand.

    I would order San Miguel Beer, but Tsing Tao is fine. I can eat the shell with the prawn together. I saw him cooked the beef tenderloin with potato added with Maggi Season Soy Sauce. Those green veggies called Pea Leaves and they're cooked with Chicken Broth. My spouse always enjoyed eating Pompfret whenever she came to HK, but she likes with Bitter Melon. Already watch several video of those that went there and Sam ordered pretty much the same dishes. Could add Stir Fried Razor Clams with Black Bean Sauce and he can invite few people with him to finish the meal. When I return to HK by the end of this year, I'll make sure to have one of my dinner meals at Oi Man Sang.

      It’s a balancing act between getting there late enough to avoid the worst of the lines, but early enough so that things aren’t sold out. I’d say 7:30-8 is probably best. If on a weekend, be prepared to wait around half an hour for a table! Thanks for watching, and good luck 💪

    imo, at this DPD, people mostly eat the brand, history and atmosphere..... food wise i think they can get much better value at those upstairs wet market centres

    • @HongKongHoods
      @HongKongHoods  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree that wet market food centres are probably the single best-value type of establishments at this point, and I'm sure that price-wise these dai pai dong were more competitive in that regard in decades past. I think you're right in that people pay a little for the experience, but in the case of Oi Man Sang, the food really is top notch!

    Indeed the FOOD is exceptional but the cost is on par with a local family restaurant in the US. And we have taxes, higher wages, and even higher grocery costs. No wonder so many local HKers are visiting Shenzhen for their entertainment and dining.

      Id agree that dai pai Dong aren’t as cheap as they used to be, but it’s still pretty reasonable here considering the quality and size of portions (especially a full fish and huge and numerous prawns) also, let’s not forget that the US has a 20% tipping culture
