    This is seriously next level. Your recording sounds amazingly natural and dynamic. These Martin Logan do magic with voices, guitars and, oh my, that piano with each notes precisely distinct. I am silent.

      And I am listening to this through Martin Logan ESL 9's from the Masterpiece series and all Parasound gear. (sorry, my headphones suck, won't use them on this demo) This sound is NOT a surprise to me, ML's ARE very neutral, no horns, cones or domes from 380Hz. and upward !!

    I have had my ML scenarios for two marriages. ML's are just amazing, the clarity is beyond what any Twitter speaker can do. You hear everything your source can mustard and it can do it without distortion.

    Great gear and lovely music - sounds absolutely amazing with a huge amount of sonic presence! Voices and trumpets (to mention some...) are so natural through YB + my headphones. I am looking for second hand ML´s right now just to see what´s out there... Very hard to find. I had ML ReQuest 15 years ago and miss them. As for now I´m running Magnepans 1.5+1.6 in stereo setup as a wall of immersive sound. They blend and sound so much better than a single pair with greater dynamics and slam. I would buy a third pair if I found one as an additional bass panel perhaps:) RIP box speakers for me! Thank you for sharing!

    I listened on JBL P10's, Optimus Pro LX-8's, and a set of DT 770 Pro's all on my computer. I think I enjoyed the Optimus the most for the warmth and depth of field.
    Your video sounded great on all three, but what stood out was the great job capturing the beauty of these speakers.
    I own SMG Magnepan's on my main system - they sound great but I can't say I would make a video of them playing ;).

      Yes! Even a single-ended tube amp is glorious if you don’t expect it to shake the house. To do that, a pair of McIntosh MC275’s configured as 150 watt (into 2 ohms!) mono blocks would suffice 😁.

    • @daniannaci3258
      @daniannaci3258 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh dear, that shouldn’t happen. On advice from MartinLogan service manager unplug the speakers from the wall for 24 hours. Using a new, or very clean horse hair brush ($8 Amazon) on a shop vac, gently vacuum the whole front of the electrostatic panels. You can do the back, too, but there’s no charge on that side. Don’t worry, you won’t harm them at all! Just don’t use any liquids. You have dust that collected between the grate and the membrane. The dust absorbs moisture from the humidity and partially reduces the electrostatic charge. If you have early ‘90’s Aerius - they will have no visible red LED in front - unplug the speakers when not in use. The later ones - with the LED - had signal sensing power supplies that only power on when they detect a music signal. Really dirty panels that are brownish from lots of cooking or smoking in the room may need a shower. It can be done, but that’s a story for another time..

    Are really high end power amps required for them to sound good?

    • @HiFiers
      @HiFiers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be honest, it's not that necessary. For example now I'm testing an old NAD 2400 THX solid state amp with them and they sound marvellous too.

    • @BartholomewSmutz
      @BartholomewSmutz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HiFiers Thanks for the reply. A pair of these are for sale not far from me for 900 US dollars which seems rather expensive to me but I really don't know what they normally sell for since I almost never see them on the market. What do you think would be a fair price? I'm a Klipsch fan and own a vintage pair of Heresy's but have always wanted to try out a pair of electrostatic speakers but the power requirements and expense of the amplifier has always made me hesitant to buy a pair. Since you said these don't require high end amps I would like to try these for a reasonable price. One more question, what recording device did you use to get such an excellent sound quality for this video?

    • @HiFiers
      @HiFiers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@BartholomewSmutz Hi!... well, here in Europe a pair of Aerius I would be around €1000 and €1500 in good conditions so I'd say that US$900 being in the US is a quite fair price to pay if everything is in order (I strongly suggest you to listen them before buying, panel replacement is expensive).
      Related with power, I'd get an amp that provides high current (Parasound, NAD or ADCOM if budget is tight)... you'll love how they make them sing without breaking your pocket.
      Audio captured with Zoom H1n ($100) stereo mic (no EQ or any process, totally raw).
      All the best!!

      I’ve had Aerius I’s since I bought them new in 1999..100% reliable BTW.. They are not amplifier-fussy at all, except for Class D amps. (Those can shut down). I first ran mine off a Krell KST-100 (about $1100 used on eBay) and loved them. Even better was a McIntosh MC 275 75 WPC tube amp. Awe dropping was biamping, the Krell on the woofers, the Mac on the panels. But I sold those amps to buy a house. A rebuilt Heathkit 12 WPC AA-151 EL84 tube integrated from 1960 was pressed into service for a few years . The Aerius (and I) loved it. Of course, it didn’t play as loud, but I had a smaller room and it was plenty loud enough, even good bass ( though not Krell bass🤣). Then I tried a Yamaha A-S2000 90 WPC integrated. Nice amp! But the Aerius sounded exactly like the Yamaha - very lively, midrange forward, dry bass. Now my forever amp is the Luxman L-590 AxII 30 WPC Class A (60 into 4 ohms) integrated amp I purchased for a pandemic treat. Perfect for my smaller room and my wife loves it, too. So, you don’t need a big amp, just a good one (one happy into

    I've had a pair of ML ESL's similar to this, I can tell you first hand they sound absolutely amazing! The only problem was they were very directional and if you leave that 'zone' it's gone. BUT if you can find that spot and marinate in it, it's bliss. Find some Mozart or Bach and just enjoy.

    the bass on the Martin Logans is not precise, but it tends to overfill even when there is no need. When there would be a song with an even more pronounced bass, the bass on the Martin Logans will definitely go down. I am always of the 'idea that less bass is better if it is not good than an inaccurate bass.

    Not quite….. the newer ML models are much much better sounding, and so is a lot of other speakers. But dont get me wrong… they are ok… especially the age taken in to account. (And yes… I love ML speakers, amd I have owned both Prodigy, Summit and Summit x. But I use Wilson now because they will give you the midrange snap and slam that a pannel speaker can not, and they dont round off the top.
