::Disclaimer:: I accidentally watched the abridged movie, so I was missing the WHOLE part between asking Clarance for 8k and him running in the town happy. I later watched the missing bit and stitched it in, so there’s a discrepancy with my reactions.

Whoever the idiot is who chopped out the whole "not born" section should have xis head examined. Talk about missing the entire point of the movie. Geesh.
I don’t know why they would even make a version with that part taken out. It’s a necessity to the story. I wonder if that kind of messed up the movie for you then because the flow of this movie is so important to the story. Either way I’m glad you loved. It’s a great movie.
I didn't even know there was an abridged version. Why would they ruin it by cutting out the most important part of the movie?
I admire you for searching out, and watching, the entire movie.
I guess in that version of the story, God sends an angel down to give a su*cidal man $8000 bucks and solve his immediate problems. A simpler, and more materialistic, movie.
That abridged version is a crime against humanity!
What scenes are missing in the abridged version?
@@phila3884 See the pinned comment by Nia at the top.
@@phila3884 It cuts out the entire Potterville part. It's insane that anyone thought that was a good idea!
@@DavidHayes56 Right. Now I saw it.
@@furyxan I guess the Scrooge's at Amazon don't want anyone to be discouraged. Very, very ignorant.
I was going through a very difficult time in my childhood when I saw this movie for the first time, it saved my life, as I'm sure it has many others. One of the best stories ever.
I never heard of an abridged version til your video! I was flabbergasted, so actually Googled it. Apparently, this is an Amazon Prime version. I hope they also have the option of a the full movie, otherwise potentially a whole generation could miss out on one of the greatest Christmas classics ever.
2:54 Shoelaces were a type of liquorice.
I watched the ‘abridged’ version and was in total disbelief !!!
Whoever came up with idea of an ‘abridged’ version has a mental problem.
I didn't even know about the abridged version until recently, I watched part of it and I was stunned. The movie literally makes no sense in that form.
I only just learned about the abridged version last week. I was tempted to watch it to see what they left out, but then I couldn't make myself do it
What in the world? They took out the entire part of the movie that it's the most famous for, the part that is always used in other movies that came after it, the entire concept of George learning that he had a wonderful life because his life made the lives of so many others so much better. It's the THEME of the movie. For crying out loud, it's the TITLE of the movie. What idiot cut all that out? I grew up on this movie playing on TV every year, and they cut out bits for the purposes of including commercials, but not the entire segment with George exploring what happened to the town because he was never there.
It's for those who have short attention span, which describes the world today
Particularly one that eliminates the part where George learns he has a wonderful life! The crux of the entire movie.
1:04:29 As I matured in my 30s nothing hurt quite like realizing all of the sacrifices my family had to make to give me a halfway normal life, and they passed before I could show any gratitude. I’ve never looked at love and family the same, and I have a newfound respect for all parents who are doing the best with the cards they’ve been dealt. This was a very sweet reaction, good job!
George Bailey was basically my Grandpa. And, he taught me to not live for money, or fame; but, to live in a way to fill the pews at your funeral. His funeral was "standing room only."
Your grandpa sounds like he was an amazing man!!! Great way to live life
He sounds like a wonderful human being ❤
A life well lived is worth more than money. All you can take with you is what you have given away.
Your Grandpa was rich beyond measure!
Wonderful reaction. "To my big brother George, the richest man in town" - gets me every time. In life Jimmy Stewart was George Bailey. Humble and descent. RIP Mr. Stewart / Bailey.
You see, the difference between Potter and Scrooge is Scrooge would never have stolen the $8,000. The second he realized he had it, he would have returned it. Scrooge may have been cold, but he still had a sense of honor. He still had a heart, which is why he could be redeemed. Potter could never be redeemed. It's unfortunate, but most "bad guys" in real life are Potters, not Scrooges.
That is great understanding of the difference between the two. I never thought about it in that way before, but it makes complete sense.
Trueeee, I think I just use Scrooge to be synonymous with a miser, but there’s definitely a key difference between the two. I was hoping to change potter by the end of the movie but I don’t think that was the message of the movie anyway
Check out Saturday night live “it’s a wonderful life lost ending” very funny.
Potter had no redeemable qualities and that's ok. Sometimes a villain is just a villain. I believe the actor who plays potter is drew barrimore great grandfather
Returning the money is not about having a heart, it is about honesty and decency
Merry Christmas!! I'm 37 and only watched this for the first time last year... already such a special movie and wish I could have experienced and shared it with certain people growing up. Take care.
It was so lovely!!! Truly such a wonderful movie!!
I have autographed photos of the 2 daughters Janie and Zuzu. They're both still alive and in their 80's. Janie lives near me and has a room in her house dedicated to this film filled with memorabilia.
Awesome!!!
Thank you for your remarkable reflective and insightful reaction. Love how you showed that it took you a little while to figure out that to change and George was not really about the money, but it’s about a change of heart and perspective. This movie makes you think in so many ways. To me, it’s the best movie ever, and its message will never grow old or die as it is 100% life affirming.
WHY THE HELL!! would anyone buy or sell an "abridged version" of this wonderful movie?! How dare they?! But hey, I don't want to be mad at Christmas. I'm glad you went back to see the whole thing the way it was meant to be seen. God bless and Merry Xmas
Right?!? It really messed with the flow of the movie 😕
A friend of mine is a therapist. She said "if a person doesn't cry ugly at this movie ending, they will probably collapse someday from stuffed down feelings, or have a real breakdown later in life. HEALTHY people blubber at this." YOU have a perfect reaction, are in touch with your feelings, very nice!
George Bailey made $2360 a year in approximately 1935. About $52,000 today. Potter was offering him $20,000 a year which is approximately $460,000 today. 😳
no, its just 2300 and 20000
@ ever heard of a little thing called inflation? You have to take that into account as time goes by.
@@bobsylvester88 yeah, its this word that makes people say insane things, but it makes zero sense.. prices and wages tend to go up over time, not that they have to or anything, its just that idiots pay too much for things, and get paid too much for things.. but money always stays exactly the same, obviously
@@longfootbuddy Money does NOT stay the same. It is not even attached to the Gold-Standard anymore. It is actually a virtual currency at this point. The worth is negotiated by those who want to manipulate it. BTW, the only reason wages rise over time is BECAUSE of inflation, most of which is artificially produced.
@@lexiburrows8127 the worth is negotiated by the buyer and seller that use it, in each transaction.. the only true value attached to it, is printed directly on the money.. it never really was attached to gold, that was just a lie that got people to put faith in paper money when it was introduced, before that it was made of precious metals, that gave it some amount of actual value, depending.. but money itself is just a symbolic thing, that is used to replace trading of actual things and services.. when con men look to manipulate values of this money, or digits, they create this illusion of fluctuation, so they can buy and sell within these markets, when the 'dollar' is up or down.. but its all fabricated, bs, as far as 'the dollar' goes, in these things.. the buying and selling of stocks and such, is a little more real, though, like real estate, they can artificially manipulate those things too, and always do.. but there is some basis of real in things like the value of properties too.. just like theres actual value in a good craftsman's service, or a pleasant place to live.. but although these con men play their absurd hocus pocus with the value of a dollar, it actually has only one value, and thats the number printed on the dollar.. its a 1.. its 1 dollar, and that never changes.. its up to each buyer and seller to determine what can be bought with a dollar.. obviously.. always has been, and always will be this way.. people believe that buy generally agreeing as a population, what a dollar should be able to buy or not buy, only makes it to where a large number of people will, in their minds, put a new value on a dollar.. but the number on the dollar doesnt change, the actual value of a dollar is worth nothing, and it really comes down to whether you can find someone that is selling their beef jerky for a dollar, or 100 dollars.. a guy selling a beef jerky for 100 dollars, isnt changing the value of the dollar, just the value of his jerky.. and only a complete jerky would buy or sell jerky for 100 dollars

I turned 60 this year and I've watched this movie just about every year since I was a child, I'm still amazed that so many grown adults these days have never seen this movie before, it's a Christmas classic.
Never even heard of it till last month! So glad I watched it!
I just noticed that when George prays and asks God "Please show me the way" Nick and Martini immediately offer to take him home. It's like "Please show me the way" and God says "Okay, listen to these folks. They'll tell you which way."
Glad to see that you finally joined the It's A Wonderful Life club! Your tears were flowing along with the rest of us. It is such a wonderful movie and the lessons and acting are great. Merry Christmas!
The only response, logical or not, is tears. Beautiful feelings and memories rolling down our cheeks.
19:26 The reason Jimmy Stewart had a hard time controlling his emotions in this scene (and later when he has his breakdown) is because he was suffering from PTSD.
Jimmy was a deputy commander of a B-24 bomber squadron in World War II and was responsible for for scheduling air crews for missions. A lot of those men never came back. Toward the end of the war he became suicidal and spent months in a hospital.
He lost his interest in acting, and it was director Frank Capra and Lionel Barrymore (Mr. Potter) who convinced him to make movies again.
In this scene, Jimmy was nervous because it was his first screen kiss since before the war. He forgot a whole bunch of the script and just improvised. At the end of the scene, Capra yelled, "Cut! Print!"
Oh wow, really!!! I didn’t know that 😔
Also had to edit out some of it, as it was deemed too passionate to pass the censors at the time
To me this is the best movie ever I have to see it every Christmas and it literally gets better every time you see it, not only is the story good but every actor is the movie is excellent
Potter is Lionel Barrymore, Drew Barrymore's great uncle. Lionel's younger brother John Barrymore is Drew's great grandfather.
And Ethel, John and Lionel are considered Broadway Royalty. They even have a theater named after them.
One thing you seemed to miss is that he was happy BEFORE he knew that the money had come through.....that experience made him thankful for what he had regardless of what the future held. That's why he was running through Bedford Falls saying Merry Christmas to everything and everyone his perspective had changed to the point of not even caring if he was going to jail. Thats why he said Merry Christmas im going to jail! Also I think you missed in the beginning when God told Clarence George was thinking of taking his own life....that was important for context for the rest of the movie....glad you did this one though Merry Christmas one of my favorite Christmas Movies....
So I unfortunately watched the abridged movie that cut out the moment after he asked for 8k to then him running in town. I later watched the missing part and stitched it in, but maybe I should have kept the order that way so people can follow my watch order. I didn’t know what happened on the bridge to understand that key moment
All good points. Except that voice was never identified as being "God"... I think more likely just an executive angel of some kind. Whoever decided this film should be "abridged" needs to find a new career.
@@QueenAstroParticle Probably that chick from Bud Light.
When I was a kid, they used to screen this and other Christmas movies on TV every year. I watched "A Christmas Carol" and "Miracle on 34th Street" but always missed this. It wasn't until I was in college that I actually watched it. That actually made sense, since it really isn't a kid film---I was able to appreciate it better.
Miracle on 34th street was second on the poll so I think I need to have that one ready for next year! If it’s anything like this one I know I’ll love it!
@@NiaMakiReacts Miracle on 34th Street is a great movie though I like this movie better. I would recommend the 1947 version rather than the 1994 remake.
I have lost count of how many times I've seen this and first-time reactions to it, and yet continue to cry mostly happy tears along with the reactor.
I also am fascinated by the history lesson that this movie provides of the events that America went through from 1919 to '46, as seen from a typical small town.
Yeah when the bank closed I was like oh yeah, what year was this. I like how they added in details about the depression and the wars
@@NiaMakiReacts When the movie starts, it is 1919, right in the middle of the terrible flu epidemic of 1918 (which went another year, to 1920). Scientists still can figure out why this strain was so horrible. About a third of the world's population was infected and upwards of 100 million died. What was so ghastly about this was that while normally the flu hits the oldest, the sick, and the young children, this seemed to go mostly for healthiest young adults. And fast - you could fine in the morning and dead by afternoon.
Some victory day parades were put off due to it (to avoid crowds of people), but in other cties, they thought it was over, had a big parade and the disease immediately ripped through the population again.
The timeline is a little bit vague in the middle of the movie, but the High School graduation party is the class of 1928, four years later when Mary comes home from college would be 1932, and the end of WWII was 1945 with soldiers mostly getting home in 1946. By the end it looks like the Bailey children range from toddler to pre-teen which fits that time line fairly well. There are inflation calculators online that can help understand how prices and salaries translate to the present day. For instance the $20,000 salary Potter offers George in the early or mid 1930s is equivalent to more than $300,000 today.
A truly Wonderful reaction , Nia ! ! ❤
48:13 - The figurative "Ding!" was the snow beginning to fall again 🙂
It mirrors the other moment at 41:22 when George gets his wish to have never been born and he notices that he can hear out of his left ear, his lip stops bleeding, and the snow suddenly stops.
It is the weather angels earning their wings. lol
2:40 Violet wanted 2 cents worth of shoe laces, a slang term for thin strips of black licorice.
Ooooooooooh! 😂
@@NiaMakiReactsit took me years to grasp it was Candy
What kind of evil version cuts out all the crucial, pivotal scenes from the second act? Somebody did you dirty. My heart sank when you had to double back and watch a colorized version to see it but beautiful reaction regardless.
This definitely upset me as well. How could any editor think cutting that out would be a good idea. Just ridiculous.
Yeah the abridged version is what popped up on Amazon prime video when I searched the movie. Idk why they would do something like that!!!!
They removed the scene because the young progressive staff at Amazon decided that the suicide scene would be too triggering. Worse, until viewers complained they made the abridged version the primary search result. A perfect example of why the arrogance and stupidity of progressivism is sorepellent to most of the population.

I love watching this again with reactors and I end up being touched every single time.
Iconic movie that hits your soul. Saw it as a child. Haven't seen Jimmy Stewart's other movies and then years later he was an old man on Johnny Carson and then those tears came right back.
There are many great movies with Stewart. There are big differences in his style before and after the war. Both Frank Capra and Alfred Hitchcock loved him. That’s how versital he was. Check out you can’t take it with you made by Frank Capra before the war and the man who knew too much by Hitchcock made after. Both great movies.

Hey, Nia.
You are by far the most animal and emotional reactor on TH-cam. That is your strength and why I subscribed.
Best libe, "Am I in love with Mary?" She said as she clutched her pearls.
Did you happen to notice during the run on the bank that woman who only took $17.5o? It is important because when they close the bank, George has only 2 dollars left. The same difference in the amount she asked for. That made my heart melt.
Your energy and the way you are shocked people's behavior from way back in the 2oth century is very amusing.
Keep going.
Merry Christmas, Nia.
And keep it going in 2o25.
We'll all be hear for it.
This is my favorite Christmas movie, I watch it every year. Just loved your intelligent reaction, you picked up a number of points most people miss, such as Uncle Billy leaving the money in the paper. You are the best reactor I've seen. Happy Holidays!

Red shoelaces were a licorice candy invented in 1914.In my day, late 60's,we had red, green, and purple ones as well.
Jimmy Stewart was just like George Bailey in real life, very much loved by everyone who knew and worked with him. There’s many more movies he made. When George met with Potter, Potter stated George was "playing nursemaid to a bunch of garlic-eaters." That was a derogatory term for Italians. They (and the Irish) were considered "low class" by many historically.
Merry Christmas Nia! 🎄 🎄🎄
Making a version of this movie where you cut Clarence‘s revelation, is like making a version of the Titanic and cutting the part when the boat sinks. It’s literally the whole point of the movie.
Right! I have zero idea why they have that on Amazon prime.
One of the best movies ever! Merry Christmas!
I think this was the best one for me!!!
@@NiaMakiReacts You need to watch White Christmas 1954 and Miracle on 34th Street 1947.
Best Classic Christmas black and white movie❤
Yesssss! Best Christmas movie!!
9:47 - we can track how old George is: in 1919, he was 12, so was born in 1907. The gym scene takes place in 1928, so George is 21 here. Remember he told his dad that most of his friends had already finished college, so this tracks. Four years later, when Harry gets married and George visits Mary it's therefore 1932, Depression era. George is about 28. We can figure he and Mary get married that year or just a year later. When Potter tries to tempt George, he estimates George to be around 27 or 28, so we're a couple of years later, around 1934 or 35. When WWII is over, in 1945 and the crisis occurs, George is about 38 years old, which tracks very close to how old Jimmy Stewart was in 1945.
Mary is 18 in 1928 so is born 1910. Harry is a tiny puzzle: Clarence says he was drowned at the age of 9 in 1919, but his birth year on the tombstone is 1911, making him 8. I'll say that Clarence may not be good at arithmetic, a fault I'm guilty of, so all good. But Harry is a year younger than Mary and so is 17 at the gym scene.
for a little more! We know that Uncle Billy is 56 in 1928. He was born around 1872. In 1945, therefore, he's about 75 years old. While I'm here with Uncle Billy, I'll point out something I noticed not too long ago: in the scene at Billy's home, when they're looking for the money, Billy sobs that he went into rooms that he hadn't gone into "since he lost Laura". Billy is a widower, and has been since before we first meet him in 1919. The loss seems to have affected him permanently, and it goes a long way to explain why he is this way, and why the people who love him treat him as they do.
The actor who opens up the pool under the gym floor is Carl Switzer aka "Alfalfa" from the Little Rascals films.
wow you knew or correctly guessed shoelaces are candy (old fashioned licorice) - great reaction
Lovely reaction Nia. I watch this movie every year myself.
Merry Christmas, Nia! Hope you have a safe and happy holiday! 🎄 🎁
Thank you, and Merry Christmas to you too!🎄
I have to admit this is one of my absolute favorite movies! In fact, this movie in a large way help shape my life. I Loved the philosophy of what the Bailey's family business stood for, so much that my brothers and I all became active tradesmen each in our own field of expertise. My older brother was a carpenter and our general contractor, I became an electrician, and my younger brother runs a large roofing crew that also does siding, windows, and doors. (exterior work) We could have been considered The Bailey's Building and Loan of the last 30 years here where we live. Unfortunately, Cancer took my older brother so my younger brother and I still try to keep up our family name to the best of our ability, but each in our own field.
I love this movie! I love love love it. I love it so much I watch it year round lollll 😂❤

The amount of people missing out on this because they either don't like black and white or because it builds slowly so seems kind of boring at first makes me very sad. This should be mandatory watching, and this is coming from an athiest.
People today seem to be more interested in fast paced, sound and visual effects even if there’s not a good storyline. 😢
In the sequel, the townsfolk go gunning for Potter. It's called It's A Wonderful Life To Die Hard. Just kidding.
I’ve loved Mary my entire life ❤
Great reaction, Ms Nia. The director was Frank Capra. Most of his movies have a similar theme: the basic goodness of the common man. One of my favorite Capra movies is "Meet John Doe" but you never see reactors watch it, which is a shame. Best wishes to you.
Check out an earlier movie called you can’t take it with you. It has much of the same cast including Lionel Barrymore, James Stewart, Frank Lane and Frank Capra. It’s an out right comedy and is indeed very funny. Barrymore is quite a different character .
Merry Christmas! I really like your reaction(s).
Thank you! It was truly a wonderful movie.
Lionel Barrymore who played Old man Potter is the great uncle to actress Drew Barrymore.
The man who played Nick the Bartender is Sheldon Leonard who later went on to produce the Dick Van Dyke Show.

Oh wow!!! No way! That’s really cool
"bert and ernie" the muppets on sesame Street 😂
Oooooh 😂 😂 I didn’t even realize their names
@@NiaMakiReacts According to Jim Henson Productions, there is no record or other evidence that the names for the muppets Bert and Ernie were taken from this movie. It may have been a subconscious thing, but definitely not a deliberate decision.

You know this movie is really about Mary! Because without Mary as his rock not only would he be lost but the whole community. Also, Clarence knew that Potter had the money but George knowing that wouldn’t have saved him!
This was my dad’s all-time favorite movie
It’s the best Christmas movie!!!
A very close 2nd to this movie is A Christmas Carol (1938) starring Reginald Owen.
Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol in 1843.
I much refer the 1951 version ("Scrooge" in Britain); it is the gold standard of the story. imdb gives the 1938 film 7.5 but the 1951 version with Alistair Sim gets 8,1. It really is the gold standard.
Ah, next year I have more to check out!
@@TedLittle-yp7uj The Reginald Owen version is great but the Alastair Sim includes more complete details from the book.

Thanks for watching, and merry Christmas!
You can't jump in a pool like that today because your phone would get ruined..
I read that there was an abridged version and people went off. I'm glad they did. There is NO reason to cut things from this movie.... not a single scene or moment.
Once George was brought back from the alternate reality, his priorities had shifted. The fact that he seems oblivious about the missing $8000 and his going to jail is because he just got back what was most important to him - his family. All other concerns didn't matter.
Probably the most famous "what if" movie there is.
What if you had never been born.
How has your life impacted so many other people's lives, without you realizing it?
Something to deeply consider..

Such a lovely movie! I really like that premise, and also a good way to assess your priorities!
The highlight of this reaction for me is George saying “up your caboose, me lady.”(interesting edit. lol) 09:55
My favorite movie. I keep an autographed photo of Jimmy Stewart and Karolyn Grimes (Zuzu) hanging in my dining room. I also have a dog named Zuzu.
Awww!!! That’s awesome, I don’t have any autographed items, and the name zuzu is so cute!!!
Very fun to watch with someone so empathetic
Always watch the original version
Great reaction! Just subbed. I appreciate your open and cheerful demeanor. In the scene where George was being mean to Mary i believe he was discouraged and he knew he liked Mary but didn't want to be "tied down" so he troed to put up a wall. It obviously didn't work.
Fun fact Mr. Potter is Drew Barrymore’s great uncle.
Gin is a card game dear...the son, Harry wasn't talking about " No gin tonight pop? " as in meaning the alcohol drink gin, no. He just wanted to play cards with his pop/Dad. The full name of the card game is gin rummy.
Reminds me of the movie, "the 5 people you meet in heaven ".
Nia. We didn't see it but did you notice the two men tgat helped Mary with the house were named Bert and Ernie?
