    This was perfect. Your photo examples with the zooms and etc were great at demonstrating real results. Made me realize that with these "cheaper" lenses, I can do all that I wanted do with photography in the first place.

    So it's just after 8AM here, and my wife is still sleeping in the other room. As I'm watching this, with headphones, suddenly I hear my fire alarm blare from the other room catching me totally off guard, and making me nearly jump out of my skin... except it wasn't my fire alarm... it was a, "Are you awake yet?" test Scott placed at 7:50. You got me Scott, you got me... ;)

      Hahaha, sorry about that! It's tricky to balance levels for both speakers and headphones haha. Glad to hear it woke you up though ;)

    Great review - I'm looking for a 16mm equivalent for APSC without breaking the bank, this is a definite possibility.

    This lens is ideal for skaters. Super wide, but affordable. Lots of risk getting that close to a skateboard!

      thanks for this. i made the switch to sony from Canon about a year ago, and COMPLETELY overlooked skate photography/filming. i'm not a young buck anymore, but back in my young days i spent almost all day every day filming skateboarding and making videos.
      i don't get out in the trenches as much anymore, but i'd love the ability to shoot some skateboarding every now and again. so i was heartbroken to find out that Sony (and Canon, really) doesn't really offer much in the way of fisheyes for their mirrorless setups.
      Canon still has their very popular EF Fish-eye, and they have some weird dual lens fisheye, which i think is ONLY for VR? I'm not sure.
      I was legit planning on rigging out like an old Canon 6D or even maybe a 5D Mark II or something with their EF lens, but thankfully I found this one.

    I am new to this channel. Nice seeing shots from Japan. Especially having to cancel my trip to Kyoto this year. Is it hard to defish this one?

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching! It's too bad you had to cancel, hopefully you'll get the chance again! I love Kyoto and I'm dying to go back myself. At 11mm it does take a bit of effort to defish it depending on the lines in your photo (or lack of them)... with the APS-C crop, it's a bit easier. Honestly though, I generally like to just embrace it with a lens like this and haven't tried messing with defishing all that much.

      @@ScottDumas I ordered it from Amazon today. The tutorials on TH-cam seem easy enough to defish. Which is only needed under certain conditions. Tnx for replying.

    How would you compare this lens to the samyang 12mm 2.8 Fisheye for IQ and build on the sony a7 riv

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a Samyang fisheye a while ago, and it might not be the same as the one for E Mount (it was years ago and on a Nikon DSLR)... but I think it would be hard to beat this TTArtisan lens in either area both from my memory using that lens and just judging how well built and fairly strong performing this one is.

    Hi there I see your using on a full frame and stating its a full frame lense, but obviously on sales it just e mount which is crop sensor, does this lense require you to turn your full frame sony camera to crop mode

    some people says that is a 16.5mm FOV

      For fisheye lens, you dont check the fov in distance, but rather the actual value in degrees. This one gets you 180°

  • @ericguizzetti
    @ericguizzetti 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Couldn't you just run F8 and the focus set to infinity?

  • @ONGO_
    @ONGO_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would this lens not be good for video?

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could, depending on the situation. As a fisheye, it will be a very unique style/look and one that you'd probably only use in certain situations. Also, since it's a manual focus lens you'll need to pay attention to that a little bit but since the depth of field is so deep at 11mm, it shouldn't be much of a problem. Size-wise, it's pretty small so could work well on a gimbal, and maybe if you use APS-C crop mode, the fisheye effect will be minimized and it'll just be a more standard ultra wide angle. Hope that helps.
