    I am pretty sure that the minimum focus distance is measured from the camera sensor not from the front of the lens. Nice video!

      Correct

    • @JasonMorrisphotocinema

      if that is the case the minimum focus distance is even worse then. It measures at 21cm from the sensor rather than 17cm

      The Sign one the Camera top view, looks like this -0- shows where the sensor is located in the body. From that line, you have to measure the centimeters to the subject. Btw i like the Photo through the fence! Awsome shot

      Came here to add this. Correct. Honestly. I stopped the video to post this. When reviewing a lens, if you don't know the basics, like where the focal plane is measured from, you've lost credibility to me. It calls into question any other technical observations immediately. Also, show me a matte box that can cover 117 degrees of FOV. Filters won't work on this. Don't tell me to get a matte box on an 11mm if I want filters. That isn't how its done...

    Minimal focal distance is measured from the sensor not the end of the lens. Look at the top of your camera you will see a circle with a line through it. That is where the sensor is and where the minimal focus distance is measure from.

  • @EricLouisYoung
    @EricLouisYoung 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    minimum focus distance is calculated by the distance from the focal plane (sensor), not the front of the lens element.

    Nice video Jason - I just bought one of these bad boys. Moved over from M4/3 to Sony FF recently. I had a couple of ultra wides over there and always had fun shooting with them. Mainly landscape here but also great to capture large events like Short Track Oval NASCAR races too!

    Hey Jason love the video, being in Brisy where did you pick this lens up from?? Want to grab one for my Sony a7 full frame camera. Been trying to find a true fish eye lens and this looks ideal.

    Wooo excellent, my friend talks to me using this lens on the sony a6400, inside a waterproof case, to photograph surfing, I know that it is manual focus, adjusting the ring to infinity, would I have the photos in focus, or would such a task be impossible?

    • @RYZphoto
      @RYZphoto 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kind of pointless to use a full frame fisheye on an APSC body, you would be better off with the Samyang 8mm fisheye for APSC cameras.

  • @charminbaer2323
    @charminbaer2323 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    uhh... you CAN use an ND filter, even with fisheye lenses, you just have to use a clip ND filter that goes over your sensor instead of the lens. STC Optics makes some and I forget the other brand I've seen.

    I have been shooting dark interiors (theaters ) and neon ( marquees )with my osmo and I have tried every exposure setting possible and cant quite get the quality I need ...any suggestions ?

    • @JasonMorrisphotocinema

      Hi. The problem here would be dark interiors. The osmo pocket is not great under low light conditions. You would have better luck with a mirrorless camera and a fast lens. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do unless you add more light

    I'm considering getting my first fisheye. But I fail to see the point in getting a 2.8 lens, if it's not tack sharp at 2.8. Guess the search continues!

    • @zxrphotography1355
      @zxrphotography1355 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have had alot of fisheye lenses and there is no fisheye that is tack sharp in the corners soft corners are the nature of the beast with fisheye you mostly want the middle of the frame sharp as for me a 2.8 is what I need for concert photography

      Rokinon
      Nikon
      Pentex

      None are tack sharp in corners

    • @Chris-ey7zy
      @Chris-ey7zy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Even if it was sharp at 2.8 it usually has dark corners until f4

    • @Chris-ey7zy
      @Chris-ey7zy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is something called a curve or bulb with fisheye lenses. Corners are not going to be sharp at big aperture because of this. That’s the shape of the glass. To get corners as sharp at center you have to have a flat lens. Flat field macros. Yes usually macros are sharp at corners and center because they are used today shoot flat work like paintings or let’s say text on a book. That’s specialized lens. People who think every Lens should be sharp at corners and center at biggest aperture have no clue how lenses are constructed
