Compared to SSRI's or benzodiazepines, Bupropion is incredibly mild and easy to stop taking.

I've had this experience with someone, but it might have been a different antidepressant and seroquel he stopped taking, and he went days without sleeping and became psychotic. And he wanted to kill himself, he kept telling me over the phone. He didn't though.

Wellbutrin saved my life by allowing me to manage my depression.
Yes, people should be aware of side effects and not every medication works for everyone, but it's really frustrating seeing people demonize or discourage the use of medication (moreso the comments I'm seeing than the short itself. I'm not sure this person's views on medication).
Also not all medications are difficult to stop. Some require careful observation but others you can be weaned off of relatively easily.
Unfortunately finding the right med can be trial and error, and some people may be able to manage just fine unmedicated. But if someone is struggling they shouldn't be afraid to talk to a professional about seeing if medication can potentially improve their quality of life.

The instant acting Wellbutrin was taken off the market several years ago because of its ability to cause psychotic reactions when patients took more than the prescribed dosage.
Today Wellbutrin is prescribed in two longer acting forms. Wellbutrin XL and Wellbutrin SR. FOR MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE TRIED TRICYCLICS, TETRACYCLINE, MAOIs, SSRIs,SNRIs, Wellbutrin can serve as an alternative. It is not likely to cause a person to gain weight by eating more. It is prescribed off-label as a drug, Zyban for stopping smoking. Yes it is more activating in terms of motor skills and thinking ability than the other categories of antidepressants.. but it is not a stimulant such as Ritalin or Dexamphetamine. The latter two are of course fed to kids with hyperactivity disorder.
Of course to treat MDD, you could always go for ECT and get your brain zapped to induce seizures during "treatment sessions" Researchers are still trying to determine how much damage running live electricity through the skull does to the brain. Memory loss is just one potential drawback. Other therapies that are currently used : You might find a clinic that legally dispenses a form of LSD to fight depression. ----And other clinics use a form of ketamine, an anesthetic used for major surgery to treat depression over a several session course treatment. And then of course there is TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) another new and exciting treatment for depression. YET THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO FIND THE ABOVE-MENTIONED TREATMENTS AS WORTH TAKING THE RISK.

Huh! Now you people tell us. The doctors don’t tell you that or give you enough time to taper!! I’m severely damaged from a doctor DR BRUCE KEHR of POTOMAC PSYCHIATRY after he misdiagnosed me as “bipolar 2” and stopped all my meds for another cocktail with the same exact type of meds, just different names! Gee, why hadn’t anyone else thought of that? Just unbelievable. I thought the guy would definitely know what was wrong with me because a family friend told me he was an expert in bipolar. She must have been manic when she told me this. I don’t understand mania or hypomania. Never have. After getting damaged, I started questioning things like the drugs, withdrawals treated as mental illness, my diagnosis, etc. yeah. I wonder how many other people are misdiagnosed and the meds make them sicker because they don’t actually need them. Anyway, after misdiagnosing bipolar 2, he also misdiagnosed massive withdrawals that happened after he sent me to detox to get off KLONOPIN. I told him I was 16 YEARS SOBER and it was like the guy was DEAF. He refused to fill my script even though he took over as my doctor when I was on both opioids and Benzos. He didn’t suggest I see my current doctor until way after I came home. He sent me a letter in the mail after I started calling frantically looking for emergency help. I had NO IDEA what was wrong with me and no one else did either. For TWO YEARS I was told I have rebound anxiety. We tried all kinds of shit. The medical community is ignorant. So those two years I went through? I almost died constantly from WITHDRAWAL AKATHISIA because some asshat wanted to feel alive again or buy a new Porsche. STOP MESSING WITH PEOPLES LIVES!!

I did not need medication in the first place. I was fine with moderate depression, it is just my siblings talked me into it and the psychiatrist did not care either way and said it is up to me to decide. She did not assess me for being a good candidate or not. It was just take Lexapro then increase dose, but do whatever you want I don't care.

I have adhd and when I took Wellbutrin, it was terrible! I became extremely agitated and then aggressive (completely opposite of how I usually am) and I knew something was wrong with me, but I couldn’t think clearly enough to realize it was the medication. It was a week or less and I was drastically affected so much that I went to a different doctor, that I could get in to see immediately and I almost felt delusional, it’s hard to explain, but I was crawling out of my skin. They told me to stop taking the Wellbutrin and did and I was back to myself in a few days.
It was really scary! I couldn’t even think clearly enough to realize it was a new medication I just started taking and that’s disturbing because I was always keeping a journal especially for if I started a new medication or type of therapy.
I can take adderall and fall asleep sometimes. It makes me more focused, but never speedy or anxious. It calms me, and sometimes helps me sleep strangely enough.
I can take regular SSRI’s, I’m on Lexapro now and want to start weaning off because it’s been many years and I don’t feel like it really does anything.
I just got through a few years of weaning myself down from 3mg of Klonopin to .5, so I didn’t want to go off of the Lexapro at the same time. I have adhd and ptsd, but the adhd wasn’t diagnosed until I was 40.

This man has seen more functional brain scans of people on wellbutrin than anyone. looking at high or to low activity and blood flow. Just because he failed to mention everything about the drug doesnt mean we should go on a witch hunt and include him on the list of bad doctors. I took it for about a week and it made me rage full. Awful feeling, nervous wreck. My doctor recommended Lexapro, but I told her no thanks. Doing my best with no meds at all.

Can we talk about the effects stumulants and antidepressants have on the SNS when ANS or PNS are not working correctly? I have Dysautonomia and the depression from that is highly related to the feelings of doom that come from my symptoms especially uncontrollable heart related issues.

I took that way back as it supposedly decreased ones addiction to smoking. It worked for some people but made me hyper, like to first time I had caffeine. I couldn’t take the jitters so quit.

Well he doesn't tell you the best side effect ever, that can cum with webutrin!
I became allergic to it, coming off of it for the motivation effects wasn't the part i missed the most!
Being multiorgasmic when using it, that's the side effect i miss the most.
The intense itching, like deep to the bone itching where I would pinch big parts of my legs trying to reach the deep itch and creating huge bruises, that i DON'T miss!
Other than the allergy itching, it worked really well for me.
Once i came off of it and readjusted to my ho humm sex life again, i never tried another antidepressant.
I didn't have any issues coming off, but my husband was on amitriptyline for years, he got sick and needed a life saving medication that he couldn't take with his antipsychotics, holy sh¡t talk about someone who lost there ever loving mind for a whole month!
GAWD DAMN, I HAD NO IDEA WHO I WAS LIVING WITH OR WHAT HE WAS CAPABLE OF, HE ACCUSED ME OF TRYING TO MURDER HIM!

Definitely a med with a lot of side effects, but I can say hands down it has saved my life a few times over. I’ve been off and on it for the past few years. I tend to take it for a few months at a time and then come off. When depression flares up for me, I will sleep 18 hours a day and have no energy at all, just taking a shower is exhausting and I’ll go right back to bed. When I’m on it I have more energy than I did before the flare up of depression. It’s a great med, the only one of its type, and worth considering for a lot of people.

I’m currently weaning myself off Wellbutrin without any assistance. Pretty anxious I’ve been on it for over a year but so far down to 300mg from 450mg and it hasn’t been so bad yet. I have been drinking more caffeine though

I took it for a while when my doctors suspected I might have adhd. I do have adhd and didn't feel anything on it. I also hve severe depression so maybe that's why I didn't feel anything 🤷‍♀️

Really? I have been on Wellbutrin for years... it's the only antidepressant that I am currently taking.
I just cannot believe how all of these meds are so hard to come off of!
I really feel like I'm screwed all the way around.
    1) I went through hell after going cold turkey off of Xanax, and am in protracted withdrawal now. It'll be 5 years on February 15th.
    2) I am now, and have been for years on Wellbutrin.
    3) I am also taking Gabapentin (for years).
    4) They put me on Metoprolol when I was in the hospital going through acute benzo withdrawals, and my b/p was super high.
I never had any problems coming off of ANY medications. I just turned 60, and it seems like everything that I am now on is going to be HELL coming off of!! This is scary, because I don't think that I can go through that again...EVER!

And there are a lot of horrible generics of Wellbutrin that don’t perform like a regular med does whatsoever they’re the complete opposite

Sorry Dr. Josef but I do not like Dr. Amen’s methodology of treatment. And his brain scans cost wise are out of the realm of us non wealthy people who barely get by. And are they truly just “hype.”?

I am confused as hell by what i am learning from this incredible channel. My mind is literally Blown.
Firstly why only 520 likes when there are 120 comments supporting yhe content? We all need to support these videos! These are the people who need to make money!!!
Second, how on Earth can't Dr Amen be so ignorant of the effects of psychiatric medications when he does so much work on brain health???

Possibly the type of antidepressant that you would give to somebody, who's had suppressors of some kind, whilst developing in the womb.. ?????🧐🤔
I believe the studies are showing, the high rise of these type of syndromes, stem from foetal toxicity😢 😢
