  • This is an informational overview video on Bupropion. Bupropion is available under several brandnames: Wellbutrin and Zyban. It is only available as a tablet.
    When to use it?
Bupropion can be used to treat a depression, and secondly bupropion can also be used to support stoping smoking.
And for those of you watching, planning to quit smoking, I have already made a more general video on “how to quit smoking”, that provides you with all the necessary tips and tricks! You can find it here: • Watch This Before You ...
    How to use it?
Swallow it tablet whole, with a glass of water. Do not chew on it or crush it.
And always take it at fixed times; preferably in the morning (if you need to take 1 tablet) or in the morning and afternoon (if you need to take it twice a day). Prevent taking it in the evening.
    What is the correct dosage?
    Wellbutrin: to treat depressions.
    Starting dose: 150 mg 1x/day
    Zyban: to quit smoking.
    Quit smoking: Zyban:
Starting dose: 150mg 1/day, and after 4 weeks it can be increased to 150mg 2/day.
If you forget to take a dose, than skip it, and take the next tablet when you usually do so.
If you are looking for a video on nicotine substitutes, like the nicotine patches, check it out here:
    • How and When to Use Ni... .
If you are looking for a video on Varenicline, than you can find it here:
    • How and When to use Va...
    What are the side-effects?
    (Very) common (≥ 10%):
Insomnia, headache, dizziness, shaking of your hands, concentration problems, sadness, agitation, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, belly pain, constipation, dry mouth, fever, skin irritations (itching, red spots).
    Uncommon (0.1-1%):
Weight loss, fast beating heart, increased blood pressure, chest pain, confusion, hearing of a squeaky sound.
    Rarely (0,01-0,1%):
Low blood pressure, muscle twitching, cramps, and an allergic reactions.
    Stay safe while using Bupropion:
Avoid driving your car the first week you are using bupropion. This is because you might experience some side effects like dizziness and confusion. Which do not exactly make driving very safe. The same is true every time your dose is increased.
Now after 1 week most people are used to the effects, and than it is safe again to drive. However only do so if indeed your are not experience these side effects.
Secondly, I would also advice you to avoid alcohol, as it may increase the side effects of bupropion.
    Pregnancy and Lactation:
Try to avoid bupropion, if possible.
It is unclear if it is harmful for you baby, but there are signs it could. So my advice would be to avoid it, and try to use other medicines which are not harmful for your child.

I just got my Bupropion HCL 150 MG filled today. Since this mediation has a black box warning. I have to meet with my Nurse Practitioner every month. I have my bottle in my hand now. I have yet to take it. I’ve heard really great things about the medication. I got it prescribed for my depression, but especially for my ADHD. I’m hoping it does great things for me. Considering I’m not hyper, but I have a difficult time focusing and concentrating on this. I procrastinate a lot. I start wayyy to many projects that I don’t finish. With my ADHD it’s like this:
Imagine being in a gymnasium with hundreds of thousands post it notes on the walls. On every post it note, there are thoughts, tasks and projects listed on them. That’s what my mind is like 24/7. The projects, thoughts, ideas and advice are really great. It will definitely benefit my life and progress me further. But I just cannot even go through step one and sit down to focus. I get so distracted easily. It’s horrible. Hopefully this medication will really help me!

I'm taking it for borderline personality disorder, I get drowsy on it which is pretty bad since I'm a delivery driver. The first week I lost the ability to cry, drift (don't attempt to drift/power slide on the first week as reaction time slows down), and feel anxiety which was cool cause sliding around downtown delivering packages right after black friday is stressful. Effects lessened and driving became easier second week. I still get sleepy, my doc told me to play around with the time I take the medication so I started taking it at night. For me, taking bupropion feels like theres a mechanic in my head trying to fix my brain but hes taking his time cause he wants to maximize the paycheck. I'm impulsive so I keep the meds on another floor just in case I start feeling 'quirky' and do something i regret. Btw I'm on week 3 and I feel like my normal self but less impulsive, and still drowsy

This is because one thing the Dr. Doesn't mention, bupropion was originally used for cocaine cessation. It's a very odd SSRI in that it produces alot of energy almost like a lower dose amphetamine. This is also why weight loss is common. For me, burpropion crushes depression fast because it does indeed feel like I'm on a low dose of cocaine. And it helped me quit smoking in 8 days

Well, in my case (moderate-severe depression) Wellbutrin was extremely effective. While I not only suffered severely from the painful symptoms of depression, but was also unable to work and was at risk of having my cognitive abilities permanently impaired, my condition improved greatly just a few days after starting Wellbutrin (150mg XR). Specifically, I had no negative changes in thinking and perceptions, or negative changes in my personality. I felt a certain euphoric effect (thought that's what cocaine must feel like) but otherwise not like being on drugs. I also noticed that I seem to have suffered from mild social anxiety all my life, which I only became aware of when the drug made it go away. Also, I only had certain side effects (itchy skin, and the feeling of a slightly altered self-perception) for the first week, during the changeover process, which then went away. Now, after several months of taking the drug, I have slowly stopped taking it. At the moment I am still a bit more tired than before, which is logical because the drug had a stimulating effect, but I no longer experience any symptoms of depression. I can only report positive things about the drug, it has served its purpose without side effects. The biggest drawback seems to me that there is no 75mg XR dosage, which on the one hand would facilitate tapering (the tablets should not be split), and after the decline of acute depression would be a perfectly adequate dose for maintenance therapy to prevent relapse over a period of time.

I just started taking Bupropion today for my lack of focus and anxiety. If it doesn't work within the first 3 weeks, I was instructed to try out Adderall. I'm a bit nervous about both these medications but I'm doing it for my own good. I just hope everything turns out alright.
Edit on 15 of April, 2022.
I tried out Bupropion for a few weeks but had to get off of it shortly after. Even though it was an antidepressant, it caused me to have depressive episodes and my emotions weren't in my hands, so to speak. My best guess is that I was equipped with the wrong type of drug. I didn't have strong depression at the time, I needed something for my ADHD. A stimulant would work better than an antidepressant.
Now on adderall, it works quite well. It's not a miracle drug, it helps me focus but only when I actually try to focus. Unlike without it, where I try to focus but can't. However, I can easily drink adderall and spend the next four hours hyperfocused on the wrong thing. But unlike Bupropion, it has no side effects because adderall is the equivalent of drinking coffee, for example. It's a drug consumed within a few hours and once it's done, it's chemically done and decomposed. The only side effects you'd have are during the usage time of a few hours, and it's not severe. If you don't stay hydrated, or forget to eat, you might get headaches.

Hey Bianca, good question. I could not find that hypothyroidism slows the absorption or metabolisation of Bupropion. But it is important to note that not all medication can be combined.
Therefore the best thing to do would be to visit your phycisian and ask them for personal advice.

I had a kidney transplant 4 months ago, at 3 month mark I started feeling fatigue and my insomnia kicked in crazy, going to sleep at 7 to 9AM to then wake up to take my pills and go back to sleep a little more if possible. The psychiatrist at the transplant center prescribed Wellbutril XL 150mg & Trazodone 50mg, it's been five days and I'm getting extreme side effects from shaky hand, brain fog, low blood pressure, legs giving up sometimes. The lack of concentration and speech It's crazy for now can't even speak correctly sometimes as i have to think to much, can't concentrate for shiet currently, I'll start watching videos stead of doing tasks and at the end i don't even know what the video i eatch is mostly about. Want to know If anyone else had such experience, and hopefully some with a transplant can ellaborate. Doctor keep telling me that the good effects usually start at 4 to 6 week mark.

Would the SR have less anxiety side effects as XL?

    • @gloriademata1986
      @gloriademata1986 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Wellbutrin XL and SR are different formulations of the same drug. One is not better than the other. The differences between Wellbutrin XL and Wellbutrin SR are found in the dosing and the approved uses. XL stands for extended release; it only needs to be taken once per day. SR stands for sustained release; it may be taken twice per day.
The generic name for the drug is bupropion. Bupropion is an antidepressant medication that works by changing the levels of chemicals in the brain.
There is no difference in strength between Wellbutrin XL and SR. The difference lies in how you take your dose. Once these drugs are stable in your system, they are designed to work at the same strength. You should not change between Wellbutrin XL and SR on your own. Your doctor may switch formulations depending on your diagnosis and response to treatment.
Wellbutrin XL is approved to treat major depressive disorder and seasonal affective disorder (SAD). SAD is depression that occurs mainly in the fall and winter.
The dose for Wellbutrin XL starts at 150 mg once per day, and may go up to 300 mg once per day. The dose is the same for both major depressive disorder and SAD. The daily dose is usually taken in the morning.
Wellbutrin SR is only approved to treat major depressive disorder. The dose starts at 150 mg once per day and may increase to 150 mg twice per day. Wellbutrin SR is usually taken in the morning and midafternoon.
If you miss a dose of Wellbutrin SR, you should take it as soon as you remember and then continue with your usual dose schedule. However, because Wellbutrin XL is an extended-release medication, if you miss a dose, do not take it when you remember. Take it the next day at the usual time.
Do not stop taking Wellbutrin SR or XL on your own. Talk to your health care provider first.

    *Sorry for the long writing*
What if me drinking coffee improves my energy levels and mood.
When I drink coffee (especially medium size Americano w/no sugar), I feel good energy & confidence & I feel that I can concur my tasks and I see things more clearly. And feel driven to do things (If I had them as goals) w/out crippling anxiety and overthinking things.
Normally I might feel graugy even if my sleep schedule is fixed & if I'd slept for 7-8 hrs that day. But for some reason large amounts of coffee fixes it + it makes it easier for me to "decode" information during lectures, understand, and learn; without having to put in huge amounts of effort to focus and understand what's being said in the lecture.
Caffeine seems to make the learning process smoother for my brain. IDK how and why.
(I've read about ADHD; and how stimulants can help such cases. I don't have ADHD, maybe what I've experienced was a placebo effect).
*Large amounts of coffee lifts up my spirit & brings back the old me (the motivated me). Without it I may be a sloppy human that hates doing things. With it I feel like doing things without complaining.
I do have huge anxiety that I hate. I've experienced its symptoms more than once for months [separated intervals of individual months].
I wish I can have an off-switch that can keep me grounded in the now; so that I can thing on my feet, and not have to be crippled by fatigue and overthinking due to feeling overwhelmed by choices; which leads to feeling anxious.

I used to be a huge coffee drinker in the morning, but when coupled with bupropion my anxiety tripled. I switched to decaf and all is good now. I realized I don't need the caffeine as much anymore.

    Hello, thanks for the video.
Do you know something curious? You can help me.
I stop taking Bupropion and take it for depression, but it also serves me for anxiety 😁🤔 I don't understand how I can help myself to feel calm if it is supposed to increase dopamine and noradrenaline, which are not activators?
    Thank you!!!

Thank you for your informative insight. I started Wellbutrin for depression about a week ago and I instantly experienced the side effects of insomnia and increased stimulation and suppressed physiological status (I.e no crying episodes). However, a week in I flipped and felt a change in my mood. I started to feel heaviness and my emotions, that I had been experiencing prior, even more intensely. I would take the medication every morning to try sleep better at night. However, when I informed my PCP of these new observations she told me to stop the medication ‘cold turkey’. I know I have only been on for a week but I did not expect her to say to just stop taking the medication. She mentioned to wait a week with no medication and then start a different medication. Would you agree or what do you want think? This is truly ‘Russian roulette’ of trying to get better 😞

I feel the same way, but I am confused if I should stop it or keep taking it. I took it at night before sleep but I noticed that it increased my depression way too much and all I ever felt was sad unfortunately. I’m not sure if this has changed me forever, I really hope it hasn’t.

@@Trippyz502 i didn't had any euphoria effect but what its true is that you have to take it early in the morning because if you take it before going to bed you will not sleep all night because yes its stimulating effects and maybe euphoria effects too on higher doses
