Wendy was inspired by anime cartoons and she spent decades trying to get an animated movie/series off the ground. This was what shes wanted when she created Elf Quest as a little girl. I am praying this works she deserves this...they both do!
With the way some anime studios have adapted manga, I'd have thought that WARP would have gone that route. Especially after Frieren.
I wonder if she watch something like Frieren.
After 40 years of waiting, hell has frozen over. Elfquest is getting an animated series, and Harmony Gold is allowing Macross into the USA. What a time to still be an 80's kid.
Absolutely this!!❤
I know, a long 40 year trek, waiting for something.
What? Macross being allowed in? I am a Robotech collector.
IS THIS TRUE?!?!?
Half way there, I'd argue. A lot of animation can be bad.
Elfquest needs to be an animated series and not a movie, to do it justice.... and the art needs to be in the Pini art style, with the story unchanged. What Gaumont did with the Netflix Usagi series was atrocious, basically changing everything that made the character interesting.... and it got canceled after one season.
I wholeheartedly agree.
It won't happen without good writers and design. I am really, really nervous about the former. There is seriously a dearth of good writers in both live action and animation. I look at ATLA and fear a similar fate will befall elfquest.
@@NaveaDraws I share similar concerns
Would you be opposed to a computer-animated series? Such as the animation used in the movie. Ready player one?
@@Kinnamon100 Either 2D or 3D animation done right would suffice.
Original creators are in their 70s, hope they will still be alive to see it. Its been their dream to see it animated.
Thanks for sharing this big news and for your cautious optimism.
I’ve seen adaptations lately result in very poor shows but I’m hoping animation will mitigate these fears. Vox Machina proved to be a great fantasy cartoon and animation helped it
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Fortunately Disney doesn't have a hand in this. Disney bought 21st Century Fox from the Fox Corporation, but the Fox Corporation then created Fox Entertainment , which is the company that is producing the series.
Fox Entertainment also owns Tubi, which has another Adult Animated Series coming to it soon; Breaking Bear
I used to collect the original Elf Quest Oversized comics back in the 80's. Was the only Comic I ever really cared about. Was a beautiful story and adventure for a 11 and 12 year old kid.
And for a 50 year old. Just rereading it - omg so good. Maybe it loses some direction but if it ended at sorrows end it would be perfect. I first read them also about that age - early teens.
Couldn’t ever find a comic that compared or could even get close.
@@BeefNEggs057 yes the very last comics like 19 and 20 I think might not have been as good, but was the best comic series i ever read.
Cynic here I'll believe it when I see it. I've been waiting decades, and will wait longer to see it properly developed.
But I think Japanese or Chinese animators can properly adapt high fantasy concepts. Wendy's style is already a homage to Japanese animation. And there are a lot of animated series that come from China. Or maybe the guys who did Arcane. I don't want Elfquest to be dumbed down to appeal to children only.
Elfquest doesn't need to be developed for the "modern" viewers. The women are already strong characters in their own right.
I had a subscription to Elfquest when it first came out. Even back in the early 80s they had wanted to do animation. This has been a long time coming.
Past time, if you ask me
@@AuthorJohnADouglas Yeah. Although some company did a pass years ago. Nivana, I believe. Wendy complained that the features on the faces would swim around the head. So It's not just getting something out there. It has to have quality too.
Nelvana Studios totally dropped the ball on that one.
@@uberrod You can see samples from the first Elfquest Gatherum, which I had. There's depictions of space ships, too.
@@Khultan That's it. Nelvana. They were big back in the day. But not a right Elfquest fit.
Use traditional 2D hand drawn animation. Be true to the story. I found elfquest in 83 when i was in the navy stationed in Groton CT. Bought every issue in original black n white and then the color trades as they were published. Bought vol 3 in Scotland. I even had "a wolfriders reflections" on cassette and all the merch Wendy n Richard offered. If it's to be done. Do it right or madcoil will find you.
Wendy drew elfquest with animation in mind. I look forward to it, but I remain skeptical.
The Pinis were always progressive but only in the last decade really pushed it further as society is progressive enough. Hopefully it'll be available on a streaming platform that most people use, like Netflix or Amazon.
My all time fave when I was a kid! I have a signed first issue comic! The Pinis verified the autograph!
I was a bookstore kid. Elfquest was the only comic series I ever got into. The art was stunning and the story was fantastic as well
@@edwardpoe7323 it’s so good
An animated series is cool, but i dont give Hollywood any grace, so I'll just disregard it and reread Elfquest instead.
I will believe it when I see it, The Original Quest done by an Anime house would be grand.
I'm surprised there aren't figures of these scifi fantasy characters by figure making studios.
I'm excited for this! I love Elfquest, and even picked up the TTRPG main book for it!
Skywise is my favorite!
I hope this finally happens but considering how many times a studio has offered to make a animated series about elfquest but then it's fallen through I'm not sure it will ever become reality but fingers crossed 🤞❤
God no please!!! I really liked elf quest in the eighties.
My mom was born in 1972 and she fell in love with elf quest growing up. She owns some original comics from back then.
Great! I read a lot of the Elf Quest books during the late '80s, even got to meet Richard and Wendy once at an event.
@@blues3824 very cook
I've been reading elfquest for 40 years now, since the age of 9, and I'm about to introduce it to my own 9 year old this year. I can't think of anything better to accompany the 4 color Starblaze editions than an animated series. Thanks for this!
Hoping they like it
They did an audio drama of it. I enjoyed it for what it was, though some voice actors were better than others.
About time, I’ve been reading this comic since the early 80’s & it never gets old.
It’s good stuff
Cautiously optimistic about this. By the way, do you have any recommendations for medieval fantasy comics?
I don’t think I’ve read enough to give a good recommendation
'Battle Chasers' was good though it only has around 13 issues (and a prequel issue 0). It's more steampunk like the 'Final Fantasy' game settings than pure fantasy.
Marvel's Conan series was also alright, being based more on the old novels rather than the movies.
"The Hunger and the Dusk" is pretty good.
Groo the wanderer
I met them in the 80's, when I was a kid. To this day, it still shocks me that no one took advantage of this epic during the last fifteen years. This would be an amazing series, the likes of which Peter Jackson should option. It hasalways been such a beautiful story. And the graphic novels are nothing without HER. I can envision it, and am fluid... Except that the opening credits have to be set to Alan Parsons, 'Children of the Moon.' That is not up for negotiation.
I haven't read, but watched a wonderful docu-vid from mattt's channel so I know how significant this could be. The closest we've come to a wonderful fantasy piece since The Lord of the Rings is The Dark Crystal : Age of Resistance. Fantasy isn't escapism. It connects to our hope, our desire to take on the challenges of the world and make it and ourselves better than what we have been told. Wendy and Richard put their hearts, both joy and sorrow into this and have been trying desperately to make it happen for such a long time. I hope it works out for them and us.
I remember elf quest from when I was jr high in the 80’s. Never finished it. Hope this will follow original story.
I just found it on Amazon. I’m gonna pick ‘em up.
I thought the studio that produced 'Exception' on Netflix might do a good job on the series, but I think they went with the people who did 'Into the Spiderverse' so.... I'm grimacing a bit. I'm very excited for Wendy's Broadway musical production of Edgar Allen Poe's 'Masque of the Red Death' based on her epic 'sci-fi spin' on the story. It is a gorgeously grueseome read and you don't have to have read ElfQuest, obviously because - unrelated.
Cool. I grew up reading Elf-Quest alongside Bone, thanks to my parents being fans of the comic book growing up. This is pretty exciting stuff I have to say!
Thankfully since the Elves already were Diverse in the original comic, they're going to pull the same stick Rings of Power pulled...Right? (Clutches Load-stone.)
ELF QUEST is a great book love to hear this.
We're living on the golden age of adult animation, now it"s the time for a good adaptation
That was the 90s but we do get a few gems here and there
Thank you. I’ve been a fan since the early 80s. I hope the Pinis get their due. It would be so nice if it was done properly and not pure corporate culture.
@@Spacebaby21 very much agree
So dope
I want to see the animation, as a fan boy I want to tear into it, like a Fanboy would 😮
I read this back in the 80s i love this book. i had the graphic novels
Two sides of a problemed coin.
Child friendly Rate G, will ruin it.
Rated PG-13, which it barely passes and parents may or may not let their young children watch.
When I got my first books up to book 4 Quest End, during the late 1980's the Farewell/ pre battle Party and blood shed was Conan the Barbarian which was Rated R, and Punisher/Wolverine comics were not that bloody yet.
More than a bit .. cough .. for a 12year old. For pre 2000's.
( Now why did Cutter had to cut his hair again ? )
I think there's reason to be optimistic here, as the Pini duo have waded thru decades of offers to accept this one, insisting on an animated adaptation staying true to the creators' vision.
Personally I'd like to see a live action version at some point, though I realize rendering wolf-riding wolves in CGI is likely to fall flat like every other similar attempt. But if it could be done well, it would be awesome.
I can see an entire new audience being turned on to EQ, for a long time to come.
@@samclingan1084 i agree
Too bad I sold my entire Elfquest collection 10 years ago. It sold FAST also, and i sold every book with no problems at price-guide prices. All I have left are some nice Elfquest magazines in CGC
Oof
Oof
It's been Wendy's dream to have Elfquest animated for years and there's been several attempts at it but they'll all fallen through.
Let’s hope this one is the one
I bought the first 32 as soon as I had the cash.
purchased my first copy (#2) at a 7-11 in 1980
I don't understand why there are no animation samples by Wendy Pini, herself, to depict these characters in movement.
This has been talked about since Elfquest first came out and after over 40 years still nothing. Sure they've worked on stuff and talked about it for a long time but I'm not holding my breath. I'll believe it when it actually comes out.
I can understand how you’d think that, but this seems to be the real deal
@@AuthorJohnADouglas
It seemed the real deal before with the movie and with actual footage.
We'll see.
@@SkitSkat674 Indeed we will. Fingers crossed
I have a good feeling about this one, actually!
I took a look at that Spider-Verse trailer and if this is what the Pinis are really favoring then I've lost hope and confidence. This should be approached TRADITIONALLY the way WINDSOR McCAY DID ANIMATION TRADITIONALLY AND WITH CRAFTSMANSHIP.
I can't wait!!!
Please for the love of Heaven don't make this some woke passion play
Fingers croseed
If they stay true to the original story most right wing dipshits will call it "woke" so brace yourself
More cuts to the artwork & less talking head would take this announcement to the next level. Your breaking news is appreciated!
I work two full time jobs, so my editing time is rather scarce. Thank you for watching though
@@AuthorJohnADouglas Hey, I hear that. 2 fulltime jobs _and_ a YT channel?!🤯
Okay, it's been awfully quiet. What's the status of this movie????? 2024 June 10th.
It only just got announced.‘I wouldn’t expect it for at least a yea tor more
@@AuthorJohnADouglas Fans for decades are rightfully demanding. We want samples of Wendy Pini's animation style to depict her aesthetics now!!😃
Наконецто!
Been hearing this "news" since 1981.
@@stormwulf117 seems this time is the one. I know how you feel, it can make one skeptical
@@AuthorJohnADouglas It's been said "this time it's really gonna happen" dozens of times, only for it to fall apart in development. Even having Mark Hamill cast as Skywise in the last attempt decades ago didn't make it happen.
No way!!! Dont lie!?!? Ahhh
When I heard “the message” I heard it The Critical Drinker. 😂
