Stayed in my walkman, my dad's Olds Ninety Eight regency for six months. Still to me Not of this Earth and Surfing best instrumetal guitar records. Ah Via Musicom and Passion and Warfare close.
There's a lot of guys that can shred, and are technically advanced but end up sounding uninspiring because they miss the point.....which is musicality. This is what Joe does so beautifully. It's like musical raindrops, raining down calmness, not just a billions notes of pointlessness. Stunning.
You nailed it with your comment. He is just having those notes come out on the guitar having been transferred from his heart to his fingertips to the fretboard to the amp to our ears. I love the fact that every performance I've seen of flying in a blue dream is the same but different. I love how Joe just plays around with certain sections.
A guy that looks like a construction worker and an every day Joe keeping it real throughout the decades. Nobody, and I mean nobody can play guitar like Joe Satriani🎉🎉🎉
That is gutsy to play such a tiny and intimate setting like that with just a couple of combo amps, and standing that close to your audience. There is nowhere to hide. Joe is top tier and shows us why in this video. That’s talent and courage!
This is a fantastic piece of music. Probably my favourite overall Satriani song. It has all the elements I like about his playing: great melody, song structure and legato.
satriani is still the absolute GOAT of instrumental guitar soloists. Even at 67 years of age playing this song virtually note perfect to the studio recorded version is just incredible.
Joe Satriani, I probably listened to this track 1000 times. And have happily fallen asleep flying in a blue dream, going to bed, a 1000 more times with it. I am soooo grateful for the wonderful emotions it has brought to me! Much love, Joe!!!
Never forget how blown away I was by Surfing With The Alien and Flying In A Blue Dream....one of the greats who instructed Steve Vai and so many others.

What a masterpiece! Every pick, squeal, whammy, and run is articulate and clean as a whistle. His feel is just phenomenal... What a KILLER song, and what a fantastic performance here!!! Thank you for sharing this!!! ❤🔥🔥❤🔥
Portrait of the artist as a guitar player. On my Mt. Rushmore of rock guitarists. Still loves playing it as much as wel love listening to it after all these years. Satch 4ever.
My take on this cut....he's still enjoying his own stuff...genuine craftsmanship. Genuine entertainment. Thanks Joe for all your wonderful productions.
Bro, does time machine get lost in the sauce or what? That is one of his best fucking pieces of music he ever wrote! What a goddamn Solo in that song! That's one of my favorites from him too
Flying in a Blue Dream is one of the most beautiful guitar songs you will ever hear. The album is astonishing. It's one of my favorite albums of all time. When I get a little depressed, I listen to this album in its entirety. JS is amazing.
Absolutely a master 6 stringer!!! One off my top 5 guitarists 🎸 Love his Live in San Francisco album!! My favorite of hid band mate compilations! Stuart Hamm on bass, Eric Caudieux on keyboards & Rythem guitar, Jeff Campitelli on drums,AND still Joe!!😊
I have grown up listening to the maestro! Even now, 20 years later, He is Godly, The Great Joe Satriani 😊😊❤❤. My mind is blown every time i realize how he sets this happy yet tad serious mood with this song as if you're gazing at the horizon with dark clouds taking shape, wind blowing and then out of no where theres the Sun shining at @2:10 through the clouds and its clear skies, clear BLUE skies 😊 Master at using Modes and conveying contrasting emotions JS ❤❤
what a freaking pro. Went to a battle of the bands in Clarksburg, WV around 1992. All heavy metal for the most part. Then this band called Ice-9 came up and they looked like the Beach Boys. Bunch of short-haired preppy-type dudes. They didn't hang their guitars low and cool either. Then they started playing and "Summer Song" was the opener. I quit laughing. Watching these videos of Joe all these years later - no other guitar player still inspires me more. I later met that lead guitarist who was working at a local music shop. He was a Berkeley grad. He sold me my first Peavey 5150 4x12 cab, helped me cobble together some other used gear and my first guitar, an Ibanez. Been playing them for thirty years now. Thanks Ken McMahon for opening my eyes to the beauty of Joe Satriani when I was 15 years old. It literally changed my life.
Talk about time traveling! Flying in a blue dream was playing in my car, home and at work for months on end and I have so many fond memories of my youth. Thanks so much Joe! Been a fan since “not of this earth”
So rad!!! Seeing Joe play this song in a room at his home the very same way I used to play (or try to) this song in mine, pretending I was the MAN himself all the while getting mind blown by this song and his playing! I love this!!!
Nowadays being in your mid late 60's isn't consider old anymore it's more like middle-aged... That said some people age better than others, maybe he exercises too ? But at the end of the day spending your entire life doing what you love has a great effect on one's mind and consequently on the body too... And he's the perfect example of that...
@@Despond Absolutely...Hell, my uncle who's 91 still plays tennis several times a week... He's a guitar player too but not as good as Joe Satriani though...
I don't play the guitar, but the song note after note... And though I know, it's the same old song, i will still listen to it. Thank you Joe, for the beautiful wonderful music.
... only Joe could achieve this sound, through a bunch of Boss pedals and two combo Marshall ... It seeems like yesterday, remembering those '90- ies, when his Flying In A Blue Dream album was the most iconic guitar instrumental album for every guitar player, for all of us ... God bless you, Master Joe ! ♥️😽🙏
Had the pleasure of seeing Joe in Sydney touring Surfing with the Alien way back in the 90s. I’m not a guitarist, play a bit of drums, but he was utterly mind blowing! Incredible stuff. Really great to see you still killing it 30 years later, Joe. Thanks bro.
Notice how PRECISE he is EVEN WITH ALL THOSE NUANCES! Tell me you could play this song EXACTLY like this EVERY TIME for DECADES! Get off the toilet people this man is a GOD!
I played this for my talent show back in 93 and this one man setup just launched back to that night. Just an unreal player. Tha ks for all the inspiration Satch.

I saw him do this song live at the Orpheum in Minneapolis back when the album released. Front row seats . This video brought me back to that night literally!!!!! Thanks for the memories Joe!!!
I'll 2nd that opinion. He and Eddie have separated themselves from the herd on so many levels. Eddie started it now Joe is taking it to another level. Incredible.
The man who inspired me at 10 years old to pick up and learn guitar. Still playing 37 years later. Thanks Joe.
He inspired me in '85, at 21, to play...the STEREO, even LOUDER!🤣
Me at 15, 35 years later i still play and it kept me sane for all those years. I cant count how many times i listened to this song. It always fills me with joy.

Love Joe, one of the greatest.
Same. Inspired me when I was 14. Still playing 16 years later and I’ve had some really good gigs. I owe this man everything.
Amazing guitar player, can't believe it's been 34 years now, played this album and Surfing with the Alien till the needle wore out.

None better at it. Literally none. Many close, maybe some equal, but none better.
100%. Pointless noodling around at a million miles an hour thru a computer is soulless drivel no matter how fast you are.

Yes and Joe seems to enjoy doing this too maybe for him its back to simpler days.
I had the pleasure of seeing him on surfing tour before he BLEW up...was awesome. Just got out and jammed....
That's the only way I've ever played😅. (I get what you're saying though just a joke).
I hope you’re joking.
Technical genius! The way he harnesses the feedback is music to my ears
Not sure if it's on this guitar, but he has a signature "sustainiac" pickup that he uses. It produces infinite sustain similar to the handheld ebow.
Joe is the foundation of so many guitarists. I don't think he gets the recognition he deserves.

Joe’s always been the best of the shredders, it not just about speed it’s about melody, timing and groove and he had all 3 in spades.
