What I get about the Centering Prayer is that acts to stymie the ego; it cuts off the ego's claim that it knows what it's doing and is in control of life.

In my experience, Buddhists accept that thoughts will naturally come into the mind during meditation and resisting them only adds energy to the thought-forms. There is no difference there, despite what she says.

I just wonder if the Polyvagal-theory developed by Dr. Stephen Porges is relevant to this talk.
Particularly the «shut-down» aspect of the theory. Contemplation might be the solution to the trauma after a «shut down».

Anders Yes,! I’m a long term student of poly vagal theory and Somatic Experiencing® therapy and find a delightful overlap. Just reading Helminki’s Living Presence which is even more explicit

Our Lord Jesus Christ said disciples would do more works (in quantity) if He goes because He will send the Holy Spirit. It is necessary to cite the entire verse. It is necessary to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit because it is the Son and the Holy Spirit working through people that accomplish the work!😊

For me, centering prayer helps me to not be not ruled by my emotions, not get so easily triggered, which has caused me much misery
