Shooting film with flash can be daunting so hopefully this video will provide some pointers to help out. I photographed 3 different models using various lighting set ups so you can decide for yourself which you prefer. I shot with the Mamiya RZ67 and the Pentax 67 on both Portra 160 and 400.

Congrats on the Vogue pic! and thanks for sharing. I bought a RZ67 a few years ago as a film portrait camera. The "3D like" look from the viewfinder is other worldly and makes looking into a DSLR viewfinder like looking into a tunnel. It is such an incredible piece of gear. Any one wanting to explore film photography should seriously consider going MF as I think 35mm is to similar in DOF and look to DSLR.
Really appreciate the BTS and walk through explaining lighting position and all. As someone who has never shot studio portraits or used lighting, this is informative and makes it easier to grasp and (hopefully one days) apply. Terrific photos.

Looking forward to more videos! I love using flash on my portraits. I feel like it just adds an extra punch. I will definitely be looking into more strobes. I also find a lot of film content on TH-cam kinda the same rock or tree photos. Love that you’re doing portraits. Please make more videos!

But also, I am not sure I understand the difference for the Pentax in controlled environment, if you kill all the ambiant light then your shutter speed does not really matter, does it? Isn’t the flash speed the only important setting for the light then? Really love your work!

Great work Barney, your portraits make us feel connected to the subject. Quick question on your fav camera the 67. Does the extension tube allow you to focus from any distance like say from 2m upto the min focus distance of 60 cm or can you only focus at 60 cm? Thanks
Thank you, and yes you still have a bit of focus range but quite limited, around 1.2m to 0.4m
