What Fr said about pagans/new agers having less baggage when converting is totally true. There is less to unlearn and it's simpler for you to accept certain things about The Church than someone who has been raised and steeped in certain Protestant beliefs and "dogmas". I myself was only raised superficially Protestant (Glory to God) in my childhood so when I came to Orthodoxy I was thankful that I didn't have a hard time accepting a lot of the different facets of The Faith. I can say that people I know that are decades deep into Protestantism have so much baggage it would be quite the uphill battle for them to let go of all that and convert. A lot of that is also pride.

This also applies to Catholics. I was very poorly catechized as a catholic. Independent study of catholic/church history led me home to Orthodoxy.
The catholic/western phronema is very difficult to break free of. I still struggle with applying western legalism to Orthodoxy.
Its really hard for some protestants or catholics to admit that western christianiaty degenerated into and endless sea of sectarianism and reactionary theology where theological positions are often taken solely because they are the anti position of their theological opponents. See "faith vs works."
Pray for protestants and catholics that they might come home to the Church that Christ founded at pentecost.
      🙏🏻☦

Oh my, I am protestant looking into orthodoxy and I've never ever heard such beauty about the saints. As they are our family, and how Fr. Turbo has experienced St. Basil, knowing that they aren't dead but live on in heaven. I was almost brought to tears hearing this, I've always heard about it being idolatry asking saints for intercession, but this discussion has really opened my eyes in regards to how I think of saints. Orthodoxy is quite a gem. Thank you, God bless

Agreed. I’m in the same boat. This idea has been kept from us in the West. But we can rejoice now that we know. Let the journey begin. ALL GLORY TO GOD!

Orthodoxy is church as hosptial. Catholicism/Protestantism is church as courtroom.
If sin is sickness which one do we require?

Also, what Father said about Anime is really awesome. I totally agree. I was never as into anime as some other guys were, but I always enjoyed it. For me, two major factors introduced me to the idea of story and narrative. Those two things were, my parents reading me Greek and Egyptian mythology as a small child, and me falling in love with the Godzilla franchise, first as a child, then again as an adult. In so many ways I see how everything you're saying about anime was true for me with Godzilla. I think it helped me to understand the idea of symbol and an icon in a broad sense, and then when it came time for me to have my own story and my own part in the broader narrative, I was ready.

Wow so many amazing moments of clarity and spiritual food for me in this one. I cant wait to check out Father's channel! I also bought St Sophrony's His Life is Mine and look forward to reading it. I already own We Shall See Him as He is and I remember opening it and being like "yeah I'm not ready for this" and closing it haha, so glad to hear him say that! I did read his work on his spiritual father St. Silouan The Monk from Mt Athos and it is totally amazing. Can't wait to dive deeper (slowly!) Into this amazing saint. Thank you so much for these shows ❤

That point that Fr. Turbo makes about story and narrative is something I have found in my own life too. I see what the good father is saying here about the soul of a poet. I think that story and narrative are really essential for us to frame our own narratives and understand them in light of the broader narrative.

Since we are always getting better improving to be closer to the image of God and toward Theosis, and Mary is said to have been the first one to reach Theosis, how would we know when we reach it?
I thought it might be like when a fish jumps on land and learns to breathe air.

1:04:00 Father Turbo, maybe a musical metaphor you were looking for is that Evangelicals / Protestants have only ever heard the remix…
Further, the files they made the remix from had faulty and corrupted stem files from the transfer, files that were missing sections and even entire instruments… Then they have taken those, remixed them then made remixes on the remixes.
All insisting their own remix is the true song, never having heard the Original

And the term saved is an incorrect translation from the Greek. Nowhere is this term found in the new testament when properly translated.

    • @CJohn33
      @CJohn33 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@Ellie Bradlee The term appears 5 times in the new testament. The first time the word appears, the correct translation is rescued, the second time it appears, the correct translation is to set apart. The third time it appears, the correct translation is eternally redeemed. The fourth time it appears, the correct translation is to heal. And the final time it appears, the correct translation is to be on guard. So, the translations protestants use are very far from being correct. Salvation is worked out daily and not by simply, saying "are you saved?" At best, this statement is very shallow, and it is about as arrogant a statement as anyone can make. Most people did not even have a Bible until the 1800 to 1900s. It was to expensive. Christians attained salvation by living a Christian life each day. That statement also stops a person from struggling to be better and says their Christian journey is over.
