Well done. Shortening the skirt on that race is actual a helpful tip for all of us home builders. Thanks for sharing this to put it on our radar when mounting a tapered fork tube to straight steerer.

Thanks mate! I’m sure you can get shorter headsets. I think Hope make shorter ones but I thought they were all a standard depth before I fitted this to be honest.
I would love a little lathe. I could’ve made it shorter in about 2 minutes 😄

You dont need to buy new pads man. Just sand the rotors with sandpaper a little bit and bed the pads again. Works like a charm. Also the recon could be changed to shorter travel with a spacer. I put 140mm on my kona (100mm originally)and wanted to change the travel next time I service the fork but I kinda like the higher stack now. It is also a little easier to jump. Climbing is still alright.

I ended up getting a new WTB front wheel for it in the end. I’m still using the same disk and pads from the old wheel but the squeaking has completely stopped, so that’s pretty good.
Ah, I’ve never shortened a fork before. I might end up shortening it at some point but I am really liking the longer fork at the minute too. It’s probably not the ideal geometry or whatever but it’s really fun at the minute 😆
      What Kona have you got?

nicely done. Some advice on the red pig if you find it harder to climb : drop the handlebar a bit since you put about 30mm of rise as a starting point and you might want to move your saddle foward to compensate that front end ! polygon is a beast now !

Thank you! That’s a really good idea, hadn’t thought of that.
Were you Lyrik forks the same length as your old Recon forks?

@@TheSlowworms haha no my lyrik was 10mil longer as well. I'm impressed you remembered xD. I think air spring works better with longer travel. I had my recon switched from 140 to 150 and found it better as well.

I would love to get the same fork in a shorter length so I could do a real apples to apples comparison. Just so I could see how much of the ride difference is down to the travel and how much is down to it just being a better fork.

@@TheSlowworms you can change the airspring size on the 35 and add spacer to reduce travel on the recon
