As a NY native, Kacee's bacon egg and cheese was the only one you'd be likely to find in a bodega/deli in Brooklyn or Manhattan (or even a Dunkin Donuts). The other contestants made good looking sandwiches, but did way too much.
A simple BEC from NY is literally pork bacon, scrambled egg omelette, American cheese and salt and pepper. You add ketchup if you like and switch to cheddar if you prefer. But these sandwiches are something I’d definitely make AT HOME bc I love a lot of flavors. Crushed pepper in my eggs 🤗 love

So when extra ingredients are added, the cost goes up. Also, when many different ingredients are changed, are you even making the same dish anymore. They change the bread, bacon, sauce, cheese, and seasoning, so that only the egg is the same? I'm sure it tastes good, but that is not the objective. If I show up to a risotto competition with the best beef and bell pepper stir-fry I ever made in my life, sure, the stir-fry tastes good, but that was not the assignment!
For this one specifically I would’ve kept it so authentic . My order in HS was a bacon egg and cheese on a roll , bacon well done with ketchup. I really wanted Queens to bring it home but her sandwich was more of a “I’m home and cooking for my friend” the second one was given very much the a restaurant in the city that wanted to try out a bacon egg and cheese but in a fancy way for $15 . They did the most when it’s really so simple .
JMO: as someone who lived in Queens and BK… bacon, hard egg (unless scrambled by request), and cheese (provolone, cheddar, Swiss, and possibly pepper jack) is a toasted roll (Kaiser) on a griddle with butter, actual pork bacon,1-2 egg(s) salt to your liking (none for me) and pepper, once the sandwich is put together… put on a griddle as a whole to allow all ingredients to melt/mesh together on both sides…. Then wrapped In aluminum common from bodegas, Jewish delis, and stands…Mayo is a good addition but not mandatory… this simple sandwich in NY is elite… when l left NY- I moved to DC and they kept asking me what is a roll…I had no idea since it is a NY thing… they educated me on knowing it’s a Kaiser but most places (including DC) where I’ve had this sandwich is trash….

for anyone who also loves a NY chopped cheese, I strongly recommend the original spot in Harlem, Blue Sky Deli. They use a really solid bakery bread while everyone else is just using your basic rolls.

I used to think so and eat it dry but I can’t go back without having the ketchup especially when the roll is buttered and toasted. Exception to my eggs and ketchup rule. I don’t eat my eggs with ketchup outside of this.
I’ve never had a BE&C in NYC but I doubt a bodega would have that thick of a cut of bacon that’s like mid to high-end restaurant quality and pretzels buns aren’t for everyone. As the girl mentioned, they’re tough and no body trying to fight their food
I love pretty much all bacon egg and cheese I've had across the 5 boroughs as a 13 year resident here. I prefer mine on a croissant right from the package -> give to the gentleman at the grill -> order the bacon egg and cheese with ketchup, mayo, pepper jack. I don't mind a roll though but tend to also add tomato and lettuce, but basics is OG fr! Sometimes I put that boar's head chipotle mayo as a mayo sub too.

This was definitely entertaining! However, a traditional bacon/egg/cheese is: 1 or 2 eggs, pork bacon, AMERICAN cheese (could be deli, could be Kraft singles), on a roll. Salt, pepper, ketchup to taste... SIMPLE SUSTENANCE! 🤤 Are these people New Yorkers, really?! 🤔 😆

@@realSimoneCherie The sandwich is supposed to be a fast and cheap meal on the go. At the start of the video, they said that the sandwich should cost $3-$5. So when extra ingredients are added, the cost goes up. Also, when many different ingredients are changed, are you even making the same dish anymore. They change the bread, bacon, sauce, cheese, and seasoning, so that only the egg is the same? I'm sure it tastes good, but that is not the objective. If I show up to a risotto competition with the best beef and bell pepper stir-fry I ever made in my life, sure, the stir-fry tastes good, but that was not the assignment!
For this one specifically I would’ve kept it so authentic . My order in HS was a bacon egg and cheese on a roll , bacon well done with ketchup. I really wanted Queens to bring it home but her sandwich was more of a “I’m home and cooking for my friend” the second one was given very much the a restaurant in the city that wanted to try out a bacon egg and cheese but in a fancy way for $15 . They did the most when it’s really so simple .

JMO: as someone who lived in Queens and BK… bacon, hard egg (unless scrambled by request), and cheese (provolone, cheddar, Swiss, and possibly pepper jack) is a toasted roll (Kaiser) on a griddle with butter, actual pork bacon,1-2 egg(s) salt to your liking (none for me) and pepper, once the sandwich is put together… put on a griddle as a whole to allow all ingredients to melt/mesh together on both sides…. Then wrapped In aluminum common from bodegas, Jewish delis, and stands…Mayo is a good addition but not mandatory… this simple sandwich in NY is elite… when l left NY- I moved to DC and they kept asking me what is a roll…I had no idea since it is a NY thing… they educated me on knowing it’s a Kaiser but most places (including DC) where I’ve had this sandwich is trash….

for anyone who also loves a NY chopped cheese, I strongly recommend the original spot in Harlem, Blue Sky Deli. They use a really solid bakery bread while everyone else is just using your basic rolls.
As a New Yorker who grieves for BEC because i choose to be vegan, hearing chipotle mayo, pepper jack cheese, and parmesan .... I had to cut the video off because I'm getting nauseous and the urge to curse somebody out all at the same time. The one with the most mouth won cause she was the only one who understood the assignment, and she wasn't afraid to say why the others didn't. It's supposed to be simple, fast and consistent. Pork bacon, egg, plain cheese, salt, bread. Maybe ketchup. That's it. Not chipotle mayo, pretzel bread, provolone and gouda. I don't see her low scores as being out of spite or a ploy to win, her energy very much gave you did too much and I'm not rewarding you for it. Even if it tastes good, if it's not a BEC, then you can't get scored like it is. She was all the way real, and she did what she had to do. Congrats to her. Only true BEC in the episode

I love pretty much all bacon egg and cheese I've had across the 5 boroughs as a 13 year resident here. I prefer mine on a croissant right from the package -> give to the gentleman at the grill -> order the bacon egg and cheese with ketchup, mayo, pepper jack. I don't mind a roll though but tend to also add tomato and lettuce, but basics is OG fr! Sometimes I put that boar's head chipotle mayo as a mayo sub too.

A bacon, egg and cheese is nostalgic for me, so if I want one, I want a no fuss sandwich, and Kacee's looked the best to me. She kept it simple. PS. None in a bagel hurt my feelings. We legit had the best bacon, egg and cheese, on a bagel, in our HS cafeteria back in the day. My preferred bread will always be a bagel.
