That`s really sound advice. I followed it and bought a used Maschine MK III in excellent condition on Reverb for £230 rather that pay £800 for a Maschine Plus. Thanks Jade.
MK3 with Serato sample is a beast!
Yes
You know what Jade, you are pretty unique in that you actually tell things for what they are. There are very few who do this and even fewer that can tell you over the long hall what is frustrating and give guidance about it. I think a lot of people stay on the wall so they get backed by companies, I'm not dissing this if you what to make a living that way, but they should be looked at as more infotainment rather than a friend who is going to tell you how it really is. If people like you don't call things out, they will never get fixed, well done with your approach to content!

@@JAdeWii_ This is what I love about you, too. You're not a shill, like 99% of the "reviewers" (aka, product influencers) are.
Totally agree with your differences with both options, my Maschine mk 3 runs on an M2 Mac and is flying, every time , including 3 monitors linked to a Studio Live 32 Chanel desk, I’ve given up with traditional DAWs now since I’ve purchased this, took me a while to get into my way of working. I use the sampler to record all my guitars and sent]d them into patterns like I do with box etc. the traditional DAWs are slowly sinking fast in my world. I’m also into indie / rock / acoustic rock / pop / alt rock. Great review Thanks
I haven’t had any issues with the processing power of my Maschine +, whatsoever. Then again, I only work with samples and effects when using it; no software instruments or expansions.
Even with the expansions. I've used at least 8 with my CPU struggling to reach 40%. I delete all the sounds I'm not using in each group. You'd be surprised how much CPU you save that way.
You do save a lot but after a while that gets tedious 1100.00 bones and not powerful enough to handle its own effects
But for performance live Act with Audio Files already sounds good and several prepared for playing. Us M+ quality builded? Encoders are annoying on MK3 and all previous versions but for M+ they say it's premium quality and read sam from others but what is your opinion a feeling about Encoders on M+ ?
I just got my Mikro Mk2 out after it had been packed away for a long time...
I now have a computer that will handle the workload, so I'm hoping to get to learn to use this thing this winter. The Mk3 DOES look pretty rad with the inputs and outputs, I think I'd definitely give that a try if I get into this and want to upgrade.... the extra controls and screens are nice, but the inputs and outputs built right into the unit is dope. I see the new Mikro is only like 200$, which is cheap... and if small form factor is a big deal that is kinda cool.... the Mikro Mk2 was a good bit more than that I think when I got mine like 10 or 11 years ago. Glad to finally be able to try using the thing, and maybe my kid will take to it as well.
cheers
I love my Maschine +. I run 2 outboard keyboards/effects into it and use it as a sequencer, looper, mixer and drums. I absolutely love the workflow and I can't imagine another piece of gear doing what it does for me. That said, I fully agree with this video for most use cases. Be cautious if you are looking to use instruments and effects in standalone mode.
Jade is the best gear reviewer on TH-cam. the effort and passion you put into ur videos Truly Shine through! 🙏
a lot of the performance issues you mentioned are resolved by using a better memory card. The SD card that ships with Maschine+ has been known to be slow & problematic
Gotta say that's not exactly true. I bought the best SanDisk SD card for it and it did nothing for the horrible CPU issues. Had to return it after five weeks due to crashes, freezes, glitches, and so on
So stick with my MPC One that I’ve already had over 2 years & still learning it? Yeah, I think I’m gonna tough it out with what I’ve got.
MK3 is a beast using the software
Awesome! You tell it like it is - few reviewers do... 👍 I like NI stuff - unvellievable they'd release this,....
Wow.. some info I did not know. Great post!
i just copped mk1 because i like the vintage feel to it and the colours wont throw me off.
Bought a Mk3 used for £200 in the UK and love it. I'm waiting for Maschine MK4 though. So need a touch screen :)
Reverb has Maschine+ B-stock for $630 now. I picked one up last week so far its been great.
Short & sweet. Nice to see you Jade!
I salute you for your honesty
saved me a lot of time by keeping it so simple and short. THANK YOU!
I was about to buy Maschine plus so I can easily use it in live sets. I didn't even think about the CPU part, which is actually a big deal. My laptop is great, so I'll stay with my MK3 and wait for mk4 or some actual update from NI.
So sad that Maschine SW is being neglected (or at least that's my impression).
Thank you for the warning and complete honesty that makes me enjoy my MPC ONE even more (even tho I still cant fully figure it out, LOL).
I loved the dial-up sound in the background.
I got a choice to make here.
Looking at the Mk3 maschine versus Digitakt. Workflow/Signal flow is to put a small Mackie or Yamaha mixer on the inputs of maschine or digitakt and connect a few synths or a drum machine to the mixer (volca or drum brute impact). Jam and sample, chop, rinse repeat. Then get it into ableton as stems for mixdown. What would you pick ?
** Used Digitakt runs more about 300 Canadian dollars more in your area.
Awesome video Jade 😊👍👍
The problem I have with maschine is the lack of any real update on the software. Not a fan of clips they could have just let use the grid between scenes. Also yes i was expexting the maschine plus to have way more power. Yes it can handle samples but NI is known for their plugins. I would have paid 2k for it if could handle the vsts. Whats the plus? i could just use a laptop with the lid closed and get better results. Ive been using maschine since 2014.
The BEST unit from Native Instruments is called Maschine Studio. Period. They need to make a new standalone version of the Studio with EVERYTHING improved inside and outside (Ex. MPC X). Enough already with the mini and "portable" craze. We need a standalone sampling beast to be placed in the studio, not to make beats in Starbucks for the gram.
Mine just died
Thank you for your honesty! Saving us time and money... for sure!
I would love to see NI release the next Komplete Kontrol keyboards with all the Maschine control elements added to it - there is room even on the 49 key. No audio I/O to keep the cost down. Offer it with the Fatar TP8/SK for poly AT and that to me will be a compelling product.
Well that was a missed opportunity
Which MacBook works best for the native instrument MK 3
any of the news should be good, id spend more on ram and memory
Totally agree. Get a MK3 if you don’t need to be mobile and do live gigs. Saying that it works well with a Mac book and most performers have a mac book for other reasons anyway.
Does Maschine software finally allows importing flac files?
How about now?
I'm going to cast a vote in favor of maschine +, and if it really is a powerful machine for sampling without a computer and only samples at 16 bits 44100 (don't do it too much, because you will demand more work from the internal processor) it works light as in a classic Akai MPC 3000/2000XL, really yes, I could even compare it with a roland MV8800 or an MPC 4000 or MPC X just for samples and it would be a really superior machine to all these, only in this function, many FX and processors that don't have the classics
Native Instruments software is demanding, but I can also say that it has better quality than Akai's, yes, my akai MPC live can't handle that and stays lost in the dark.
The mashine software is great, I like it much more than the mpc studio one. It is more comfortable and direct when looking for sounds by categories and types of sound for a certain type of music or style and eye, the knobs are made of metal, they are not plastic like my MPC live has, which is done by a machine more durable for use, thanks to its high quality materials.
Ok, but I don't use my Machine+ with its software, I like to use it more with Logic Pro and that's when this machine gives me a lot of joy, there really is no better controller for beatmaking, it's really high-quality hardware at all luxury, very compact and with the best pads on the market to date.
The plugins for audio processing effects are not a problem, I can handle them well in standalone mode, the FM8 is also great as with the ABsynth, but if you put things like Reaktor and heavy stuff like Massive X, Battery, it won't be able to give everything you want.
I own an E-mu SP1200, MPC 3000, MPC one and other things like Roland MV8800.
I don't use all of them, but I do use them in beatmaking shows and I can say that the MPC that has the most synthesizers is my Maschine+ in standalone mode.
The standard package is unbeatable, Akai will take a few decades to offer this quality software, because NI has really done it for many years and it is a brand with a lot of experience in software, perhaps it should improve more in hardware, but with their business changes things have not improved much and I doubt that those who now run the company will improve something at NI, they recently retired ABsynth, but you get it in the standard software that comes from the factory.
ABsynth is one of the best super synths NI has ever invented (a very powerful piece of sound design).
My recommendation is that you do not use kontakt if you already have a sampler like maschine+ it is absurd to use a sampler inside another sampler and this software will also weigh a lot for 24-bit samples with high resolution when playing, I use this with my Mac Book Pro with M1 chip, but if you don't have something as powerful as an M1 then don't.
Maschine+ is a very powerful hardware sampler, it outperforms many and doesn't have weak points like a touch screen. (for me, this is also important when choosing a HW sampler)
I think the choice of processor was a simple compromise to keep the price down. Whether that was the right decision or not... well, it'll depend on your own point of view and use case. Ableton have gone a lot higher power with their Push 2 standalone edition (at least I *assume* that's a big part of why it's 65% more expensive!), but there's nothing inherently wrong with offering a cheaper, less powerful unit. But for me, these things aren't that appealing because they're either relatively affordable but you're worrying because you don't really know how much it can handle, computationally, or you're paying more for something that should handle everything you throw at it but by effectively buying a whole new, single-use computer when you already have a perfectly good one at the end of a USB cable. But that's just me.
Newest Mplus update bas made it a whole new maschine🙃🎛, im getting 30-40% less cpu usage. And with fast SD card loading is much faster
Just got into producing. My buddy told me to get a MK2. Would you say it's a good recommendation? I want to spend about 100 bucks on it
pretty outdated at this point, I also heard NI is not going to continue to update old gear, which makes sense.
@JAdeWii_ Thanks for the input
Not much of a musician, I tried to dj back in 2011, but I’m introverted, Gave up when I couldn’t beat match right, gave up on it, but I did buy a maschine mikro mk2. That mk2 is old af by tech standards and should I stick to that or get a used Maschine mk3 to start making ducky beats for the lolz.
I love my Maschine+ and I haven't had any problems with it whatsoever. I started out on the MK2 and got tired of being at the mercy of my computer's performance. I'm a standalone type of guy really. Even on the Maschine software I would do a lot of things to try to conserve CPU and would be successful most of the time. I use the same methods with my Plus and everything's smooth. I pair it with my 404 MK2 and they've made my MPC jealous. LOL
I actually like my plus. Most of the music I make does not go over 60% of the cpu., no problems there.
Same here 💯
sampling and chopping beats and effetcs is fine, but instruments ? big nono
The processor wasnt as powerful as a Gameboy:) I was super hype too, got one early, had issues so I returned it and got another then immediately realized that the interface for using the plugins was garbage. I was all like "I'm going to use the hell out of massive" only to see 8 controls per screen that wasnt laid out correctly. So I started using it with the Maschine software and had the derp moment. This was back when it was $1499.00. So, live and learn. Buy an MPC, they have yet to give up on those and they are beast and the software is good too. But when it all boils down, somehow you still feel at home with an op-1 and a sp 404. It gets the job done with no fluff, all focus.
GAMEBOY IS THE GOAT
It's such a shame. Maschine (in my opinion, at least) has some of the best pads you can get, real intuitive controls, and some damn good sounds that have been used in professional music production for years. But if you really want a standalone box that'll compete with your computer, MPC is just a better execution overall.
M+ has only been buggy for me since purchase. I love Maschine & NI, but this unit is woefully undergunned.
Good info, I wish you do longer videos about what you love and hate about maschine user experience
I still use the maschine studio 😁🤙
I started watching the videos on the new Akai MPC X Se and started getting gear lust. Any thoughts on what Akai makes vs the Native Instruments machines?
More Ram is the most important. Maschine+ 2 Pro is needed!
I was hooked to Maschine since Mk1. But as time went by, DAW was worse, NI seemed to forget the "hardware" feel to it and focus on some other projects - I knew plus would be a flop, as native daw itself eats tons of processing, let alone all the expansions etc. You are right, you can buy MK3 and a decent laptop and still have money on top for whatever.
You ask why they released it with something that was already old? Because all devices are released in that way. Any synth you buy today is using either old parts or old tech to keep costs down.
Look how much a Push 3 standalone cost... It is 2K+ and that one has a 3 generations old CPU and just released (11th gen vs 14th gen which is the current); although at least there you can swap the module... Assuming they will keep making those modules in the future.
Most synths use ARM cpu for a reason: they are cheap and easy to replace. Crack open any standalone, including the ones you probably use, and you will find an ARM cpu that is what you find on a Raspberry pi, or in a phone. They are cheap, everywhere and easy to swap to a point with a new one, if the old ones are not made anymore. But even so, companies buy old CPU so you end up with something that is old already, the moment it is released. That is not just NI, this is how technology and the market works.
Unless you want to buy something for 40-60% more on the price tag of course... But how many people want that? A Maschine + is already 1100 dollars... Who is willing to spend 2-3K for something that is newer in terms of hardware, when you cannot upgrade it anyway and in few years will be old anyway?
I have my eyes on the MK3 right now I'm trying to figure out you mentioned that it's not stand-alone, but some videos I saw that it was Standalone my question is is it usable to play and record straight out the box without using a laptop ?
The trusty Mk3. I can stay on that thing for hours. Good stuff you got here. Thanks for sharing.
what price drop? its still 1649.00 Canadian
Interesting…🤔 I had the original Mashine and it was the most amazing piece of equipment I have ever used in my studio. Never heard anything bad about the latest Mashine, this is the first!
People the MPC is under powered also 1499 to 1199 199 price drop also go and buy the new Rossum SP1200 for 3999.00 with up dated sd card slot instead of floppy and 20 secs of sampling upgraded from 10secs now how you like me
Hey if you think that's bad, look at the new Arturia Astrolab for double the price and only 8 polyphony on the synths LOL.
So true. I HAVE an MK3. Bought a decent laptop from Backmarket for like $400. So for 60% of the $ i have ...triple the power? No brainer.
Fair enough!
I got a Maschine Mk3 with a Dell micro with i5-10500 & 16gb ram (£200) and a portable screen (£100) ... ... ... 1000x better than Maschine+.
I got an MPC Live II for my standalone device, ... so I have all bases covered
I have a MacBook Pro M2 and still having loading issues with plugins for Maschine….bruh why? I’m so not buying into Maschine anymore 😡 It now takes so long for my projects to load up.
Maschine+ was a L
Low Power Processor
No Battery
Needs A/C Power
Buggy software.
I stick with my Mk3 😂
So are you happy with the mk3 attached to a computer. I was lookinga the as I had a push 1 but the machine sound is so much better for serious tech stuff.. the push almost sounds tinnie and cheesie? What machine should I buy. Good honest video!
Thanks!
Thank you ⭐️
now they did the same with the push3 (outdated cpu)
Thank you for being honest. I love my MK3 and until Native Instruments get there shit together and drop an official device or a long awaited update. I will stick to the MK3 smh
That's what you want to hear from a review, the truth.
MK3 is the WAY.
Most people want the + to get away from the computer
I don‘t get it, if you buy one for 350.- you need a computer, the real one starts at 1000.- (or you have a old one too..) so it is a Nonsens for me to tell the mk3 is better, if the software is growing and the plugins too you have to get a new laptop soon, in maschine plus you know what you are getting.. 🤷🏻♂️
Actually you can run an mk3,on a $250 usd used laptop and have no problems. I got one running off a $300 surface pro. Modified a holder that mounts it on Maschine as a flip top. Now it’s portable with 10 x the power of any MPC or the +
@@lionelluney3063 hi! could you please tell me which computer you got? and how did you made it portable? thanks a lot
btw i like you wearing tops*
Mpc live 2 forever 😊
My micro mk3 was $200 at GC
Hi :D, this are my two cents... Maschine Studio (the old one with screen) cost about 150 (or less?) and does the same thing as the mk3. :D. Just by libraries from NI and you are ready to rock. :D. The standalone, like you sayed is too slow. Maybe the akai is better? (Im not too much in produccion these days) Im leaving NI, because there is no development (softw/hardw) in the dj apartment, but have to say that the sound libraries are nice. Have a nice dayyyyy :D..or night :D
FL Studio will lead you to better producing. All I have to say. Drums don’t hit as right, n all n all, FL Studio will be better to really master and be in control of.
i need some hardware that will make love to me and say don bentley, don bentley,
press whatever keys and drumpads you wish and i will create beautiful amazing music for you.
It is clunky. I agree. I am frustrated with it.
Why can’t the maschine and logic easily coincide with one another
Thank you beautiful
Hope I see you one day. Gorgeous.
I thought the mk3 was a standalone unit,
But I’m getting because ITS DOPE!❤
Native instruments owe us an apology what the maschine + concern.
Ozzy vibes
can you at least tell the world not to buy a used one? or make sure it comes with transfer of software?
I dont know... tbh it doesnt make sense to get a Maschine in the first place, no matter the processor.
I rather have a well integrated controller for a very well known DAW, such as Ableton Live + Push 2, than working all my beat inside their proprietary NI software only to have to load it a VST into an actual DAW.
Even if I don't like DAWs, then I rather choose a standard AKAI MPC flavor over any Maschine. Maschine looks good, but it never made any sense to me in the context that it arised.
Well you could also make a track and stuff inside of Maschine. Go to the top right the group pattern where it says "Start" and "Length" and to the right of "Length" you could either export as midi or export as audio, into other different DAW's such as Ableton. Cheers!
The mk3 has been the biggest piece of shit I’ve ever invested in- respect your honesty
Its just so lame both Akai and Maschine just will not put enough RAM in their stand alones to do any more than basic production.
I would love just to need a stand alone - 30 gb RAM would do it - RAM is cheap .It is just sad.
Maybe they are encouraging a dumbing down or something.
Any daw needs at least 8 gb RAM for operation.
What is wrong with these people? It is not exactly a difficult problem to sort out.
The only conclusion that I can arrive at is they simply don't want to.
Hola hermosa
Maschine plus mk2 out in July. You heard it here first
sure bby
GET AN MPC PROBLEM SOLVED
What's stopping me? I can play actual musical instruments. That's what.
Sooooo if you’re not interested in this then why’re you here?
