Pretty sure this whole series is so Cory can extract info from people he idolizes 😂. I hope people realize that we’re so fortunate he posts these videos for free.
I'm convinced he wants to be a late night band leader or be a musical version of Bill Nye the Science Guy and have a Netflix series and this is his way of making a demo.
"have a passion for it, don't just do it because you think you can do it." - Sonny T, 2021. The funky monks should write this down for the New Funk Testament.
@@stepans2167 i don't like that Cory sounds so comb-filter-y though... probably through Sonny's lav..? someone forgot to aoutomate the dialog ;) but hey, the music is perfectly mixed and sounds awesome. i can handle a bit of a phasey Cory.
Man this band must be the best time ever to play with. Look at Nêgah dancing and smiling while totally slaying on the percussions, she's really feeling it! Also Sonny is just nonsense. He could make a stadium dance while playing hot crossed buns.
Sonny T is so damn talented, down to earth, and friggen hillarious. I wanna hang out with the guy and just learn from him. You are blessed to have him with ya, Cory!
man... that song is all about the details. Negahs playing - as usual -, Kevins little synth accents, Sonnys deep deep bass, Petars syncopations and little HH rolls, Michaels brass licks... everything so so nicely done, when you really listen to it
The joy you have playing is so contagious ! Love all of you guys. I’d love to hear from Sonny some more technical things about his bass playing, meaning how can he play so well with string “Wong” side ;) Thanks for all
Really nice structure in that tune. Unison, thematic breaks, adding harmony layers. Good build. Thanks for putting in the work for such a wonderful bite-sized show with top-notch music!
Thank you! I wish more pro musicians would talk about music as a skill instead of an innate gift. Also, love starfire's harmonic movement! Would love to hear more harmonic stuff like that out of Wong songs
I'm 69.. still playing. When I was about 13 years old.. Sonny and his other half Jody J. ( who were ahead of me by several years..) came to my house .. wanted me to play drums with them. Well I did for a short minute. those two monsters were banging out of those big plush padded amps. Like a freight train. Anyway.. mid 80s we were all kicking hot bands in twin cities . Sonny and I crossed many jam session and stage paths... he even beat up our guitar players guitar at one of our shows. I'm totally better in the past 10 years. On guitar and drums. I'm not done. I'm proud of Sonny hes a good soul. Hes a mpls prodigy. And we have some great talent here.😅😂😅😂😅
From a Guitar Player interview with Prince that was republished today: What guitarists have most influenced your funk rhythm style? Sonny T. [one of the early members of The Artist’s backup band, New Power Generation], Freddie Stone [Sly Stone’s brother], and Tony Maiden [of Rufus].
A perfect afro is a mark of African American pride, very difficult to maintain but it looks nice as hell if you can pull it off. (from an African American guy who plays bass for fun)
These longer interviews are fantastic, lots of great questions and insights, would love to see more interviews of this length and depth - or even greater!
Im currently practicing to apply for music school and Jazz is really hard if you've never played it before on the drumset, it's so different to Funk, Rock and Pop.
Pretty sure this whole series is so Cory can extract info from people he idolizes 😂. I hope people realize that we’re so fortunate he posts these videos for free.
Real talk! These are actual gems being dropped
Nah. The wong notes podcast is so he can extract the info from people he idolizes.
So unbelievably fortunate to get all this education!
I'm convinced he wants to be a late night band leader or be a musical version of Bill Nye the Science Guy and have a Netflix series and this is his way of making a demo.
@Jonas Biström haha that's awesome
That intro when he plugs in never gets old: so good!!
What is the name of that song
@@chaitanyashelar5142 not sure but you can stream the album Cory and the wong notes
I love how the drums follow the tab user's bad timing in his head. Such a snarky and TRUE representation of bad practice!
I didnt understand this, could you explain to me please?
"have a passion for it, don't just do it because you think you can do it." - Sonny T, 2021.
The funky monks should write this down for the New Funk Testament.
I love how the RE-20s during the interviews are just backups to the lav mics
Great observation :)

Thank you Sonny T I think you just changed my life….🙏🏿
"you gotta have somebody to bounce your thing off of"...
Wise words from Sonny
The horn arranging on these songs is killer!
favorite episode so far. Sonny is an absolute gem and starfire was nasty as hell
Love Sonny so much. There’s not enough hours in the day for his laughter. Such a beautiful soul.
Everybody else's favourite series: Game of Thrones. Rick and Morty, The Wire, Friends etc
Me: CORY AND THE WONGNOTES
this intro called me out
Me too lol. It's just so hard to hear fast passages!
I enjoy each episode’s performance more and more as the interviews introduce the band members and how they frame music.

That outro bass fill was sick!
Seriously! So glad I always watch these ‘till the very end 😅
I just love this show so much. I was waiting and hoping for an interview with Sonny T and I'm very satisfied! He's a beast musician!!!!

Smiling while playing music is something else
Mamma mia. It just came on time for me. This show is pure magic. Keep on keepin' on!
finally got that badass bass player on that seat , i talking that man at every episode he playing everything upside down!
we ain't talking about the game...
album's been out for two weeks and i haven't seen a single sonny t transcription yet drake! what are they teaching you at that school?!?!
I've done more sonny t wongnotes covers than drake and I'm a guitarist lol
Great interview! It's an honor to hear Sonny's history and words of wisdom, and about the impact he's had. Gonna go practice!
Really nice structure in that tune. Unison, thematic breaks, adding harmony layers. Good build. Thanks for putting in the work for such a wonderful bite-sized show with top-notch music!
This whole series is just *SOOOO GOOD*
I wish I could like this video more than once. Sonny T is the man

Another winner for the Nielsens! Whatever you do, Cory, don't fire that horn section!
i love this! sonny T is a legend and such a humble musician !
When Sonny hits the Minneapolis Jank ❤️❤️👏❤️👏❤️
That performance was brilliant, Much love from Iran
In a lot of modern talk shows I skip the music part even though I'm a musician. Here I'm playing these tunes over and over.
Best one so far. Sonny T dropping 💎💎💎
Wow I absolutely love the chord progression on the song
I have no idea what this is,but it was absolutely wonderful. Sonny T is a legend and this interview/jam should be on network TV.
Best episode!
No, best TH-cam show!
Man..the actors, script, production....sooooo good.
Cory is a Minnesota legend!!
This is the first episode I have watched and I am AMAZED at the concept, and the production. Holy shit, loved it!
I'd be thrilled if I could play that many Wongnotes!
Legend says the hoop shooting skills were inherited directly from Prince
You should try his pancakes...
shoutout to Michael Nelson! one of the most brilliant composers of modern history, ask
prince, he knew.
If loving Cory is right, I wanna be Wong.
2:17 confirms we’re getting a Cory Wong Cinematic Universe

We need an interview with Petar! Or is he too deep in the pocket to find?
Bruh, his pocket is bottomless. Good luck finding him.
Tightest horn section in da biz 👌 I also worship Sonny T
Proud to rep the 30% of viewers who aren't creative or musicians!
Gotta love Sonny's gesturing!!
Starfire gives Casiope/general city pop vibes! Fun to see that style having a bit of a return to popularity lately.
Best interview so far, this one got so much more depth than the other interviews! Love Sonny
Such a cool shot for the interview with the axes... this show couldn’t be better!!
Thanks Cory and everyone else for this!
I wonder if Mononeon's technique was inspired by Sonny. Love this so much!
My favorite show looking forward to this my entire life !!❤️
Cory, you are the man. Great content.
Love the show, Cory! And great to hear from Sonny T, what a guy
My favorite episode so far...my endorphine levels were off the charts on that last jam. It seemed like the band was really feeling it...
Love the horn's......
Am I the only one who just realized the strong Michael Scott vibes that cory gives off in these videos.
That's what she said.
God almighty finally!! I was scouring the comments to find this one. YES he is cringe
Great episode! 👌🏼 out on the road jamming to Starfire in the car was a blast.
So cool…thanks! 🙏😜👍
This should be on public TV for children to listen to

Excellent as always.
Nêgah Santos quebra tudo na percussão!!!!
Starfire is the best song on the album. Change my mind
I will not
Coming Back Around slaps so hard tho
I really like Lee. Starfire is for sure up there though.
I love all these videos; I love stripes shirts; I love Cory Wong
I love this show
Thank you thank you thank you! What a legend!
How much tighter can this guy's string get?! He's done nothing but tighten it up for 6 episodes now!!!!
Mighty tasty bass flourish there at the end
I like the sassy cougar who berates Greg at the beginning.
Im currently practicing to apply for music school and Jazz is really hard if you've never played it before on the drumset, it's so different to Funk, Rock and Pop.
Impressive as always mr Wong
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
