I keep hearing terms like safe & responsible, but I've not heard word one yet on specific game plans / solutions to provide for those whose luves and livlihoods are about to get decimated by ai. I'm listening...

It's unethical to slow down the progress towards AGI. While we're being "safe" and "cautious" people will be in bread lines waiting for UBI. Open source will continue despite what the major companies do.

Saying "global governance" is so cringey, just had to stop listening at that point. Global governance is not a good thing. You don't want someone like Klaus Schwab having a say in anything. And yes I know they have to say things like "safety" and all that jazz, but geez...

How do we know that this entire interview wasn’t done using AI. It’s certainly capable, why no video? Could this be your intro to announce GPT-5?

These man children think they can steer humanity to a wonderful Utopia like so may young men with great power have done before them, and here we are in 2023 at the brink of catastrophe. I wish they would stop, think and maybe do a bit more listening as to the whether the rest of us are ok with this?

Non zero chance of human extinction I’m somewhere around 30% chance of extinction if we don’t put brakes on by 2100. We almost published public dataset of all deadly diseases (bio weapons)
Worse than extinction X risks are S risks where we mostly live miserable lives

Nobody asks the technical questions. Is a solution for hallucination in site? is continuous learning in sight? is some kind of real short term long term memory in sight ? Is any of this even possible with the transformer ? These are all things that will be needed to reach AGI

Sigh. Sam & Greg's responses to how AI/LLMs may help with the challenges that our species faces with poverty, uneven distribution of wealth, harms due to climate change, and suffering were non-answers. I think that this interview is an example of people feigning thoughtfulness while being enablers to those who are already benefitting from unfettered access to technologies and to unyielding sources of wealth that these technologies are pathways to. Sam & Greg ought to have worked first on UBI, worldwide health security, and on a functional feeding the unfed strategies and implementations prior to releasing these large language models which are discarding entry level jobs as well as sources of employment and income opportunities. I am a proponent of LLMs and AI. Yet, I am disheartened by the act of discarding our humanity for the sake of releasing something too early, e.g., far before taking care of those who are suffering. I hope that LLMs are not a new religion.

Where is the part where the predictions/extrapolations are being made? All I've heard is vague ideas , regressions, present technology, and the repetition that they will improve our lives and "amplify humanity." GAW lol. The most brilliant minds on our planet, and they can't lay out simple predictions of how AGI will take over each and every industry. As I have written about extensively. XD

Today I asked Bing to make up a joke about Welsh cheese and a greyhound - it refused on the grounds that it didn't want to offend either in relation to Welsh cheeses (creamy and delicious was its banal reference) or greyhounds /animals in general. It's over for those of us outside the companies now - if we only have access to the kindergarden version, there is no point to it, for the general public anyway. For companies like Google and Meta who have access to the working version? Well, let's see how they treat us in a few months or a years' time. A shame - it promised so much and for a few weeks seemed to be delivering.

Thank you for this insightful interview; it was far more profound and interesting than the usual interviews with Sam from the last two months. The takeaway for me: you don't necessarily need an ideal problem to solve when you start working with AI. It's a Swiss Army knife with an unpredictable shape and no clear instructions on how to use it. We're at such an early stage that the most common applications are for copywriting, and some people believe it's the pinnacle. It's like when fire was first introduced to a village about 10,000 years ago and all people did with this fire was just to warm their hands

Drug discovery will be the first one to make headlines without predicting catastrophe in the headines. And in general, if it isn't lost amidst mass unemployment and whatnot. There's actually a clear way to curing all diseases now, and how they will do it, not just vagure predictions of future medical progress.
