Nana always substituted fish for other meats during lent and Good Friday.
This is one of the last videos we made to be included in her series. We lost the HD version for a long time, but recently found it on an old hard drive and reassembled it for you to watch here. Totally me too! When the news and even with help digesting it from Stephen Colbert, Kimmel, Fallon, Trevor etc... It just gets too much and Clara always brings me back down to earth and normal blood pressure. I adore her can watch her videos everyday XO

Me too. It’s 4am I’m scared I watch her I feel like I’m watching it listening to my grandma who raised me. She died 95. Clara is everyone’s someone. So very sad we don’t live forever but they leave us too soon and now we miss them terribly.

Clara is so much like my Grandma. I so enjoy watching Clara's commentary. The people that came out of that time in good shape did so because of a positive attitude!
No one realizes it, but Clara and her videos are like a museum in a way- it shows what happened during the depression on a first-hand account. Very few are still alive from the depression, much less have amazing stories like these.
It's a real gift for all of us and future generations.

The many thing I take away from these videos is that you can tell she was loved by her parents and she has so much appreciation for the things they did. Depression or not...money can't buy love.

My grandma had me cooking eggs alone (supervised) when I was 4 (31 years ago). She had so many recipes; she was always cooking and baking. My mom has a book of her handwritten recipes. I hope to make many in the future. Clara is awesome. Watching these videos is inspiring.
Start a TH-cam channel making these items from your grandmother's recipes, it will be fun to watch.

My mothers side of the family made a book with all of our family recipes. Its something my mom still uses to this day.
Me too😭 eggs were the first thing i learned to cook and my grandma taught me. She cooked a lot, too. But sadly she never had recipes and knew them by heart, and currently has Alzheimer's now :/ The recipes your grandma wrote down are gold!

I remember when my mom used to make fried smelt when I was a kid. I lost her 2 years ago. I can smell it now watching Clara fry them. It was one of my favorite meals as a kid. I know my Mom and Clara are looking down right now smiling and telling stories to each other. 2 great, beautiful women that were full of wisdom and knowledge. God take care of them both.

Going up to 2012-2013 is when I had 2 best friends (1 stayed my best friend throughout the years)

The quality of the posts were funny and shizposty _like_ but I didn’t know that at the time.. (shizposty for 2020 meme standards)
And although I posted Minecraft jokes sometimes, they weren’t spam posts.. I made the edits and I was proud of em..
One of the posts had Steve with a pickaxe staring at a wall in our bedroom with the text “oh no Steve no please no do not mine through my wall again!!”

So she did pass. When I saw this I got so excited I was wondering my gma passed and she was alive during the depression. So I was a little surprised but I just love her so much. She died on my 41st birthday, and mere months before my 97 year old grandmother called it a life, as well. These ladies were wonderful, kind and tough as nails. Wish they still made em like this. Society literally sucks, without them.
A couple of years ago I was going through an extremely hard time. I happen to come across this channel and I watched every single video, and it filled me with love and Hope. I wish she was still around may she rest in peace.

You did such a good thing spending the time you did to record her recipes, stories, and wisdom, for us to share. In a way, you have kind of made her a grandma for all of us in this way. I just commented on how the small things can bring back memories...l noticed the radio and fell apart with a flood of memories...not sad, just how my much my own nan made a pile of memories and no money..just baking and time..she akeaus had time for all her grandchildren..and probably like yeself there was a lot of us that use to pile up on special occasions or sunday dinner lol

Wow man, she cooked so many of my families recipes. My grandmother was a depression era kid and had a very similar story, dropping out of high school so as he could help support the family and take care of her younger siblings. These videos have been fantastic to watch, a real pleasure. Thank you for posting them.

My wife makes a lot of Italian great depression Italian (*peasant) food because she would spend summers with her grandmother (*from 1985 until 1996) and it saves us a couple of hundred dollars a month as a stay at home mom. It also helped get my sugar under control (*and I lost 30lbs) when I came down with diabetes! Clara is healthy cooking as well! Please do not get rid of this channel! Keep her memory alive!

I'm on a Nonna Clara bender - I lost my Sicilian grandmother 15 yrs ago, she had a very similar style of cooking. Everything by hand, the loaves of bread between the blankets in the bedroom. Her house always smelled like fresh dough or tomatoes. I get teary eyed when I watch Clara, not because I'm sad, but because I am so happy that her family appreciated her so much. God Bless you!

My grandma passed away last June. Born in 1930 she was 88. So many wonderful people came from that generation.
