    Mine is so bumpy too. They’re really good trucks and they fire up so quick even when it’s freezing out. That’s the truck that got me started in shed hauling.

      It is a great platform! Started mine when it was 15°F with no diesel additive or extra work.... Just turn the key! Thanks for watching! 👍😁

    Hello Andy, I've been busy lately! We have two of those DT466 here at work, the m/t one is great but one has an a/t and it's lost reverse. Everyone around here says replacing it is a waste of time because they're all eventually going to do the same. And rebuilding it seems to be a task no one wants to take on. I'd love to put another trans or drive train under it and turn it into a dump truck one day. It's just sitting now collecting dust.
    Anyhow, it looks like you have lots of fun ahead of you! I can't wait to see both trucks all set up. Cheers buddy! 😁👍

      Hi Patrick! Life is short, buy the project truck! If it's an Allison sometimes those have circuit board controller issues and can be repaired with some electrical magic. I think the DT466 is a good engine and I really love the idea of owning my own dump truck. Thanks for watching my Friend! Cheers 👍😁

      Thanks Pete! Like everything I get into it needs a little fixing, but with some work I think it could make a nice little dump truck. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁

    Got my International S series project on the road last fall, has the DT360 engine and Allison tranny , also a 10 foot dump bed. Handles real well and have hauled quite a bit of rock with it since. I had to remove the cab and rebuild one side of the cab main support rails, but not too bad a job. Cab had settled and was bumpy like yours . I cut the whole support rail out and fabricated a new support from box tube and angle iron . The front mud flaps on the International collect junk at the top support and cause the cab support to rust out -- all repaired now

      Very nice! I'll have to check out my cab support rails. I haven't had much time to work on this project, but hope to have a 10' dump body installed this year. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

    You better take the axle off the springs and cut the frame behind the cab then make your own frame out of 3/8 sheet metal which is bent to match the cab frame then put air bag suspension and possible air brakes. I suggest you have the bed made a little longer than a standard bobtail so you can haul a little more than a standard bed wood haul. I say all this with young in cheek so have fun building this truck!!!

      Thanks! I sourced a 10' dump body for this build and it will be shortened quite a bit. It's a big green unit. You can check it out on the channel. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

    Hey Andy! Nice buy my friend 😁👍 Yeah the frame is crusty but when shortened, it will make a great dump truck. Never seen an air seat like that. Take care and happy wrenching 🔧🔩

      Thanks Donnie! I'll have to look into doing a little switch a roo on those seat cushions until I can get a replacement. Thanks for watching my Friend! 👍😁

      It's still on my "to do' list.... I'm going to inspect it closer when shortening the WB. The end is definitely garbage, but that's all getting cut off. Thanks for watching 👍😁

    I'm hoping you got a great deal on that truck, because I don't think it'll pass d,o,t, with that rusty frame. I don't think you ever said what you paid for it to be able to say of it was a "good buy", but if you go off of the auction sites like "big iron" or "truck paper", I'd say it's worth about 5 grand, any more than that, I'd pass

    • @FlatThunder
      @FlatThunder  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think I mentioned the exact price and yes you are incorrect. It failed DOT with flying colors and the previous owner retired it from service. They aren't too particularly fond of holes in frame rails. Hopefully the majority of the 'really' damaged section will disappear with the wheelbase shortening. I'd say it passes your standard for a 'good deal'. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

    You need to learn how to float the gears just rev it up till you think it needs to shift and shift with no clutch I drove a truck for 25 years Ben in every state but Alaska never had any clutch problems makes driving a lot more fun

    If you put a 10 ft dump on there the frame will be cut anyway just add a proper hitch

      I like how you are thinking! I am currently looking for a 10' dump body with a hoist. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

    To much rust to much work to repair need a new rear section frame forget about patching to much patching welds weaken frame cause frame rails are harden steel heat and welds softened the weld areas the weight you will be putting on truck has to be taken into consideration hope this helps those out there.

    • @FlatThunder
      @FlatThunder  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The really bad section will all be removed in the WB shortening. I'm going to inspect the L wrap more in that process; ie needle scale it, hammer all the garbage out and inspect more closely at that time.

  • @ethanlancaster76

    Truck was riding so “bumpy” because the tires are cold. Once they heat up they soften up.

      @@FlatThunder enjoyed the video. I have a 1986 International s1900 with an Effer knuckle boom and a 14’ dump body. The DT 466 is probably the most dependable motor in any vehicle I’ve ever had. Great trucks and the old ones still look good to me.

      @@ethanlancaster76 Thanks! It sounds like an awesome setup! I have a Palfinger knuckle boom. I recently mounted it to my old Ford. I am finding it is an indispensable tool. Cheers, 👍😁
