Well I picked up 3 books for Christmas, Fred Herzog - Photographs, Of Time and Place - Walker Evans and William Christenberry, The Negative by Ansel Adams. All three are very good, each for its own particular gift to the reader. Fred Herzog's book is an inspiration of vibrant colour and composition, Of time and place deals with two photographers from the same neck of the woods, and explains the vital connection between them while photographing Alabama. The negative by Ansel Adams is a unique revelation in the concept of understanding the photographic negative, and the importance of learning one's craft. Nice video Sathya - looking forward to your upcoming Chamonix 4x5 videos, as a side note you might want to check out Paulie B's 2 videos with Reuben Radding, some very cool lessons there. Cheers.
Thanks for the suggestions Clarhett. I have The Negative and totally agree with your observation. I’ll check out the other ones. On Chamonix video, working on putting it together :) thanks again for watching, have a good day!
Considering I prefer to photograph things instead of humans, it is difficult to find the interest in picking up a book of images of people. But when I do come across an artist who creates images that work for me, I find myself imagining what it would be like to have a human in a scene I'm shooting bereft of flesh. I'm hoping the remains of some semblance of humanity resides within the frame (that's the point?), but oh well. Nice vid!
Thanks! It is a subjective medium after all, I don’t think there’s one point to anything really - there’s always multitude of things that can be considered as take aways from any one image or a project. May I ask why you prefer to photography things instead of humans? Just curious :)
What books/podcasts have you been enjoying?
I love "Photographers Playbook". Never travel without it.
That’s great that you travel with it
