Most of mine are your quilt alongs! I get all the blocks done then plan for your next one!! I’m starting some new projects along with your two! Busy, busy!
I am a list person too so YES, I have SEVERAL UFO lists, but UFO Challenges have helped me greatly...STILL LOTS to finish but I like to keep track....I will update my list as I am getting ready to remodel my 9 x 12 foot "STASH" closet and I am SURE I will find more...But my excuse is I worked in a quilt shop for 13years so of course I had to bring fabrics/kits home every time I worked...And needing to update my quilt journals as well...my original is bursting at the seams so I have 3 of those journals like you showed and will start doing as I make a quilt! You are such an inspiration and motivator to me Pat! Thanks for all you do! 😘😘
Hello Pat, love your conversation on purging and re-organizing. It’s the new year so that’s my task and your conversation has caused me to move quicker and more confidently in this process that can be daunting when you have to look at what you didn’t accomplish the prior year. I have faced my UFOs and have given myself a realistic date to complete them. And most of all, I’m very excited about the opportunity to revisit these projects and complete them.😀
What a great video! You have inspired me, so tomorrow I start listing. I do think writing them down for me will help. I never thought of letting things go to charity if they are not quilted. I am also a list person so this should help me organize. Thank you for all your video’s I love watching as you are so “real” when you talk about all your quilting adventures.
I retired in May last year and decluttered my sewing room during June and July (then ran out of steam). I am currently going through all my magazines in an effort to make more space in the closet in my sewing room. Have found magazines from 1992!!!! I finished a lot of my UFOs last year and then started sewing again and now have 12 quilt tops completed. My goal for this year is to actually get these quilted and binding on (1 quilt each month).....and finish my grandsons quilt which was supposed to be for his 21st birthday (he's is now 23....oops). Thanks for all your videos they are inspirational.
My girlfriend gave me a panel of a little blue truck, and a white polyester sheet for the backing just before Covid started. Well since then I have purchase extra fabric so I could put it all together. So my New Years promise to myself is to finish UFO's. I am happy to say that today, I will be putting the binding on. At the time, my friend said there was no rush, she should not have said that, because there is always something shinyer or exciting to try, lol Happy New Year everyone!
I have 36 UFO's! I looked back in my journal from last year and I had 2 in 2021 and 0 in 2020. I have to figure out a way to work on them without this becoming a sweat shop task because quilting should be fun. I'm hand sewing tonight with my feet up. Thanks for posting!
I have a mental list! But should commit it to paper in reality. I currently have a dead computer and printer, so until I can afford to replace them, the list will be handwritten in my little diary. 🥰🇦🇺
I moved last year, so I have had the opportunity to evaluate my stuff. That being said, one year has grown more stuff. I try something, do it and move on. Maybe it's time to look again. Thanks.
Some people may say straightening/organizing videos are boring, but not me!! You will never know how much seeing your UFO pile made me feel better about myself and knowing I am not alone in my "mess."😄 Thanks for all these clean-up videos!💕💫
You're an inspiration. It is my goal to check out my UFO's hopefully starting this weekend. I like how you consolidate. I just have to figure out how to consolidate and find the items when I need them. Now that's a challenge.
Omgosh! I have 30 plus unfinished quilts hanging in my closet. Some need backing fabric and the others need to be quilted. I have been so intimidated about quilting my own quilts. This year I am going to try and learn how to quilt them. I just ordered the Quilt Journal and the Perfect 10 quilt book. I am a list person, on paper, I loose to many things on the computer and I am just old school. Paper in hand works best with me.
I am still using my word “space” which makes me smile every time I think of it or see it. UFO day makes me anxious but accountable. I need to dig them all out and start giving an hour at least 2 or 3 times per week. I wish that I could swing daily but not possible right now. Thank you for all the info and letting us know that you have stuff in nooks and crannies too.
I'm going through this process right now with everything Christmas! I have taken all my decorations down and now I'm sorting through to decide what things I definitely want to keep, tossing things not worth keeping or passing on, and planning how to appropriately store everything in order to make my life easier next year when it comes time to get it all out again. I have so much stuff that I haven't used in years, but have put off this difficult process until now it is almost overwhelming. Strings of lights that may or may not work, tattered garlands of various kinds, ornaments (some with sentimental value and some that I really don't even care for), etc. But I am also carving out some time to work on a few quilting projects that have a "due date", lol. It will feel so good to check things off my lists!
Think of it as a first pass something is hard to make a decision on then save it and do that one next year but try to get rid of most of it ,you're doing an amazing job!!
Started my organizing and cleaning out yesterday. I bought A Quilting Life's Planner and Workbook. Determined to get a handle on things and become more productive this year.
Wow you sure have a ton of quilting things. You will feel so great once you go threw everything and new home some of it. That is what I do to. I have given so much stuff away. Still have to much. But don’t we all.
I use the Moda tracker as a cover note to go in with the work. This helps when I go back to the project, it shows what my plans where and how far along I got.
This video is so helpful. I know most things to organize as I too am a list maker. But usually there are a few nuggets of wisdom new to me or just watching you go through the process is so motivating. And hearing you tell us to get our projects out from all over the place, which I have, helps me give myself some grace in this area. And I love that you gave us permission to not finish a project, so freeing! But also ideas of what to do with the unfinished project we no longer want to do. Thanks so much Pat. 🕊
I’ve always been a “list person” with my to do things but lately I’ve felt a little overwhelmed and so now I do “weekly projects” to get things finished. I will only put three things on my list at a time. I noticed when I focus on one thing at a time they usually get done. I do a little each day and when it’s done, I’ll start on another item I know needs to be done.
About 3 years ago, I listed everything I had, whether started or not, into an 8.5" x 11" spiral lined journal. 2 full pages of titled columns letting me know what has been done, if anything, to each project. I saw this on Pinterest, not sure if it was for quilting. It's been working for me.
I have to say, I am one of those that finishes a quilt before I start another one. The reason being, I may never come back to it. I am one of those that like to make one, finish it as quickly as possible, and never make a second one. Moving on to something new. Pat, you are helping me learn patience by doing one block on Wednesdays. I'm loving that.
I am writing down my UFOs and I do have a plan. I am a list person. I have the quilting journal and the crosstitch journal. I also have Lori Holts planner. I am finding it all very useful. It has taken me a while to figure out how best for me to tackle these things. My word is courage will be needed for tackling some of it. Thank you so very much for helping me to see how I can do this. It helps me so very much from the bottom of my heart
Thanks Pat! I love these reminder days of UFO’s and getting them organized! ❤️ love watching your organizing process…..helps me to really think through my stuff!
I’m a lister… I currently just keep a small list & once I finish I go back to the master list & then make another small list… then I don’t get overwhelmed. Thank you for the “purge” reminder… I’m a little terrified of what I might find in all my decorative boxes.
I don't know any unicorns but I love that you bowed your head to them. Thank you for the encouragement and letting us see how "human" you are, Pat. I'm going to go print the documents. :D
Unfortunately I could do this task monthly, maybe weekly! I straighten up only to create another mess! Loved watching your process. I will make a UFO list today. Thanks for the inspiration!
Lists help. I did some organizing so i could attempt to plan what i will make the first part of the year. I have 3 tops done and sandwiched. They just need quilting. I Feel good that they are together and ready for when I’m motivated to quilt.
I like how you give us permission to let a project go. I do lists but can’t list them all . It would overwhelm me and shut me down. So I’m doing the APQS ufo challenge of 12 and the is mentally sufficient for me.
Apparently I am a Unicorn 🦄😆. I only work on one quilt at a time. I might have a smaller project - a bag or something like - but it makes me anxious to have loads of things started. I did used to keep flimsies as they take up less space than a quilt, but last year I set to and finished them all into quilts. 🦄🦄🦄🤣
This is how it all started for me this week. Opening random boxes and bins and purging and sorting but in the meantime, my sewing room looks like it blew up. It has to get worse before it gets better.
I am not counting. Since I moved, the lift on my cabinet won't stay in place so I can't quilt my quilts. I am continuing to make quilt tops in terrible pain 😢 adding to UFO'S and am getting frustrated as I want to join in some QAL'S but can't seem to wrap my brain around getting gathering the fabrics together for them 😭😭
Well, it depends on what you call a UFO. Finished tops ready for quilting, 3. Multiple blocks made for 5 or 6 for different projects. Projects ready to start, 3. Patterns in my wish tub, no idea, there's a bunch! Fabric on hand, in process of sorting and donating some of it.
I feel like some sort of freak 🤪. Only been quilting for a little over a year, but I can’t move on to another project until I completely finish the quilt I’m working on. It’s frustrating when I see all of the beautiful quiltlts you are working on. However, I don’t want to take on more than I can finish at any one time 😢. I envy all of you who can multitask 🎉🎈.
I did a declutter/destash a couple months ago with a company that sponsors that annually. It was a LOT of work and at times quite a physical effort to fill bags and boxes and haul them away. I finished my UFOs but I have 27 projects that I'd like to make. They are on a handwritten list and are in project boxes and bags.
I have 2 UFO's. One from over 20 yrs ago, the other from last year when I realized a huge mistake. Now those blocks have to be appliqued on the quilt instead if pieced🙀. I really like to finish a quilt before starting another
@@annemarsaw1391 , that’s why I don’t have UFO’s. That is exactly what I do. When I first joined Pat’s group, I had 4 quilts going at the same time. It gave me high anxiety.
When I did some cleaning and organizing of sewing items from my mother’s belongings I came up with a nice gift. I landed up gathering a few items and made a nice shadow box for a sewing room with the items and a couple of photos of her. I added lights to the inside and it turned out very cute.
I like to name projects “UFO’s” if they are projects I don’t want to finish as originally started. And “WIPs” are projects that I do want to finish to the original goal. For example, if I have a UFO, it will set aside to give away to someone that might want to finish. Or a UFO could be a project started as a quilt, but, I’ve lost the desire to have that quilt - so I make make a pillow with what I have completed or maybe a table runner. If I call something a WIP…I really do want the quilt as I started it. I try to review my UFO’s and WIPS each year, at least once. Sometimes the WIPs get moved to the UFO pile and sometimes the UFO’s meant for smaller finishes, get put in the giveaway pile. =)
I make lists, but I have to have my list out in the open in very plain sight so I can refer to it often or else I forget I did it! Dumb, huh! Quilting projects and grocery lists are the only two that I make
Hi, Pat. Thanks for your video. Just my two cents: If I haven't finished a project in more than a year, I know I'm not getting pleasure from the project. I'll donate or recycle fabric for the quilt and move on to other things.
I have 5 quilt UFOs carrying over from 2021. I thought it was more than that so I’m happy to see the number is lower. I’m actively working on them now!
Hi Pat! That was fun & most of us know we need to do that process ourselves!! The bird clips in the one hat box---you either showed those or some similar maybe in 2020 & I HAD to find some!! Well, I did find those exact ones you showed 💗💗 I hang small wall hangings on the outside of our bathroom door & clip them to a dowel rod & use one of those metal-type wreath hangers that go over doors. Those clips can slide onto the dowel rod 😊 I gave away several "in progress" things last year, too, as I realized I would not finish them or no longer were interested in them. Really lets a weight off of you to let them go.
I really do need a list of UFO’s….my sister asked me about 1 and that led to ,y thinking about others…So….I’ll get that done. I do like crossing things off lists….much more than making the list in the first place! Lolol
I just started to work on my oldest UFO....the Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt with the large hexies. I'm going to complete this without stopping this time. Promise! I'm going to do a quilt-as-you-go with sashing and possibly cornerstones. Quality fabric has gotten so expensive now that it's time to work with what I have.....and I have a lot!
Thanks for this video. I love watching how others organize their projects. Two lists for me. Both the same, but one is handwritten and one is an Excel file. I make notes and mark the date completed. Good system that works for me and every time I purchase a new project I write it down on my list.
I have two quilts friends that are UNICORNS! They will be so pleased. Alas, I am not a Unicorn.... more of a magpie... love to start a project and see something bright and pretty and start a new project! Happy New Year Pat. You give me hope that I might see the finish line.
I have a couple of white boards hanging on a closet door in my sewing room, to try to remind myself of what needs to be pieced, quilted, etc. Of course, some of the really old UFO’s are not there. I’ll have to dig them out and see what’s there. Thanks for sharing your time and methods with us.
I know I have loads of UFO projects all over the house. It will take me at least a full week to go through it all and decide what to do with it. I also have so very much of my Mom's supplies and her unfinished projects too! What to do with so very much? I not only have quilting but I have angels I need to make and one large Santa, so there will be two for our granddaughter's one day. I have the very old-fashioned Santa's done with a beautiful winter white to finish and the caroler's whose heads I make out of clay. I could go on, but needless to say, I'm overloaded with way too much. Plus my embroidery work and my counted cross-stitch to move on. Plus I do genealogy! Time to donate to the local nursing home again for their craft room. They loved my donation years ago and it is time to once again do it for them. Makes me feel better and empties part of my crafts to someone who will get them finished. Sorry I write so much!!
I made my list of goals and UFO's a couple of days ago - but you're right, I did omit a couple that are in hiding 🙀 I also organized my collapsible file folder of patterns and threw out ones I know I will never make & added some of yours on my to do list. Meantime I spent yesterday hunting for fabrics to go along with the "Colors" book and finished the BLUES section so far. Now I have to organize my fat quarters and smaller pieces I don't want cut up yet - I don't have enough fabric to put into separate bins by color (or the space) so I'm not sure what to do yet. Thanks for the "push"!
Pat, thank you. This is THE BEST UFO video I've seen. Your list might be a bit longer than mine. My goal for 2022 was to not start, plan or like another project but only work on what is already on my UFO and Planned lists. Your "permission" to let some go was enlightening. I have a few quilts that were so fun to start but I'm having a hard time getting back to, there is no reason why I can't just finish them off the size they are and make lap quilts or wall hangings out of them. I love it when you organize online.
I organized my UFOs last weekend after I finished binding two quilts. Two are small pillow tops to be machine quilted. One is my daughter's Jewel box Kaffe quilt. She is graduating from college in the spring. I started this when she was a sophomore thinking I was so smart and organized! Then the pandemic threw a monkey wrench in the home stretch. We need about 6 more blocks. Each block needs a Kaffe print and a tone on tone print. This is based on a 1930's quilt I have. Each block is made out of two feed sacks, no repeats. I am excited for my daughter to come home this week so we can finish the fabric selection!!
Great ideas!
Thank you for sharing.
Most of mine are your quilt alongs! I get all the blocks done then plan for your next one!! I’m starting some new projects along with your two! Busy, busy!
Pat, I have 42 big containers in the garage! Full of quilting things!!
Time for a review ❤️
You just like to collect pretty things. But if they're in boxes who is enjoying them?
Nice to see you wearing your rings.
Not enough fingers and toes to count!🤣😂 And I keep lists of my UFOs & WIPs!
Thanks for the motivation!
Pat, that's a long list. Ha Ha
I am a 3 year beginner. After this year I am going to advance myself to intermediate. I have lucky number 13 UFO's to complete by end of year.
I agree with Sharon Mika
Love the organizing videos. Hopefully i will be inspired to do more.
Good morning I am going thru my stuff and making my list....found your website and entered for grab bag ...thank you
Thanks for the great video! I had started a list and this definitely gave me inspiration to finish it and start finishing some projects.
Hi Pat, you could donate those orphan blocks too and really have a good new start, you would have a whole empty bin! Happy organising!
You've reminded me to go through my bags and pull out threads and notions and put them where I can find and use them!
And most of all, I’m very excited about the opportunity to revisit these projects and complete them.😀
Only have 28-30 UFO's but cranking out one a week (problem is I start new ones so the list doesn't get shorter)
I've taken my orphan blocks and put them into one big or small quilt
What a great video! You have inspired me, so tomorrow I start listing. I do think writing them down for me will help. I never thought of letting things go to charity if they are not quilted. I am also a list person so this should help me organize. Thank you for all your video’s I love watching as you are so “real” when you talk about all your quilting adventures.

Your warnings your wedding ring looks beautiful
I only said that because of her broken wrist she could wear them now she has it on beautiful , I didn’t mean anything bad

Last year I started making UFO list. It became a UFO!
😂😂😂 I understand completely!
🤔😳😳🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏👏👏❤️😀
thanks for the inspiration!

This time of year makes me want to clean and de clutter.

I think I should just completely empty my sewing room and organize and put back...maybe next week🙄🤣
Great ideas, I love your videos, Will be starting my list.
I used to make 1 project at a time, but not anymore! I actually get more done having multiple projects on the go.
Started my organizing and cleaning out yesterday. I bought A Quilting Life's Planner and Workbook. Determined to get a handle on things and become more productive this year.
I was thinking on making a little jacket from one of the tops I made. I just have so many tops!
A great plan!
I have 2 T-shirt quilts to finish and the summer soiree needs batting & backing
Thanks for all your help, Pat! Have a happy Day!

I have 2 UFO's. One from over 20 yrs ago, the other from last year when I realized a huge mistake. Now those blocks have to be appliqued on the quilt instead if pieced🙀. I really like to finish a quilt before starting another
it's my unspoken goal to start and finish one quilt before I start another but I don't obey that very often...that's what gets me UFOs!
@@annemarsaw1391 , that’s why I don’t have UFO’s.
That is exactly what I do. When I first joined Pat’s group, I had 4 quilts going at the same time. It gave me high anxiety.
Love the idea of rolling the tops. Mine are folded and ready to hang....but the rack never gets hung 1st
I always finish one before I start another. I have no UFOS
Good Epiphany morning!
Where can I find the pattern for the woodsy quilt you have on the wall behind you? Thank you!
I have ZERO UFOS. I am proud of it. I try to complete a quilt before going forward.
I only work on one quilt project at a time, and have the fabric for my next project in the queue. I think I'm the only one.
Great idea!
Those clips can slide onto the dowel rod 😊
I gave away several "in progress" things last year, too, as I realized I would not finish them or no longer were interested in them. Really lets a weight off of you to let them go.
They are darling 💕 I've had them for years
It feels so good to get some things consolidated. I have to do this frequently bc I have such a small (tiny) space.
I have one flower finished on the Pollinate pattern by Kitty
Thanks for this video. I love watching how others organize their projects. Two lists for me. Both the same, but one is handwritten and one is an Excel file. I make notes and mark the date completed. Good system that works for me and every time I purchase a new project I write it down on my list.
I have two quilts friends that are UNICORNS! They will be so pleased. Alas, I am not a Unicorn.... more of a magpie... love to start a project and see something bright and pretty and start a new project! Happy New Year Pat. You give me hope that I might see the finish line.
I’m most definitely NOT a “unicorn”!!!🤣 Thanks for thar chuckle at the end there!😘
I have a couple of white boards hanging on a closet door in my sewing room, to try to remind myself of what needs to be pieced, quilted, etc. Of course, some of the really old UFO’s are not there. I’ll have to dig them out and see what’s there. Thanks for sharing your time and methods with us.
My hand is raised!
If you have the guts to list them all...I loved that remark...it's not for wimps, lol.
Sorry I write so much!!
if you never start, you never will know. Just start
@@PatSloan Thank you Pat! I know I have to START and that is the hard part. Will get it done.
I have a quilt top to work on but then I'll get to the UFO's. Excellent video. As usual.
Definitely a LIST person
Hand is high
This quilt sounds amazing! Please post a picture to parts website!
