I just found this a year after you posted it. This is THE BEST, & MOST ACCURATE description of properly setting amp gains during installation that I've seen on YT. Awesome job. I subscribed, now I need to check your posts for one where one might have a DSP between the radio & amp and how you would set gains in that scenario. Appreciate your work.
Super cool of you to help people out and rent tools like that. Im subscribed and really looking forward to the video that shows what all the different flashes do to the tune. I have the flash tool, but hate that I can't see what there doing. I keep going back and forth between soundz and kicker tune. They seem to sound the best for my setup.
I’ll make the flash video soon, thanks for subscribing, I’ll test both of the flashes you are using with an rta to show what is actually happening, I feel the kicker flash and soundz flash have too much bass
@@volunteeraudio My customer came to me with a DSR1 installed already wanting me to tune it. He's using it as a LOC with the high level input from the H-D radio since no RCA Outs on his H-D radio. Wouldn't I just use the DSR1's Trim levels to plug DSR1's RCA out into my DD-1 and set that to distortion, then plug those RCA's into his Alpine KTA-450 amp and then continue setting the amp gain as you describe in this video? (assuming setting DSR1 x-over to full and EQ to flat before adjustments)
Thanks for the video. Just bought your Soundstream SG9813. I have a Sound Digital 800.4 already installed audio shop professionally set to an Aquatic AC head unit. I can play it easily without distortion a volume 30 out-of-40. When i install the head unit, you think i will have to set the gain again? It is set low and i just want the same sound.
@@volunteeraudioThanks for responding Jay. To be clear, I should not have to reset the gain since the Soundstream is clear? I would like to add that I can play it louder, but I play it on 30 normally as my max My set up is two diamond 6x9s, two 6.5 yellow baskets, and 800.4 with no DSP.
Quick question for you, if you have a set of 8s - Cicada CM8.2 (1000w/500RMS pair or 250rms per) for the lowers with 65Hz-20k frequency would you recommend still using the -1kh -10db test tone? Or could you go lower seeing they are not 6x9s that I assume you are referencing in the bags and should get more bass?
Where can I find the link to rent or buy that meter I didn’t see anything on your website also I wanted to get some info on your kicker subs in the bags. How much bass are you getting from that setup again I couldn’t find the info on your website? Thanks for the videos and any help with the above questions!
Call us @ 1-844-30AUDIO to rent or get price quotes, the subs sound great and add more bass than I thought they would, it’s not like 2 10” subs in a big ported box but for sure loud enough to hear all the music you have been missing
One more question. You talk about bass and treble settings. What settings do you recommend? I have mine set at 0 and 0 but the treble being at zero is right at the borderline “muffle”
@@volunteeraudio I am running 3 amps...Ex4 Euphoria in the front to run uppers and lowers and tour pac ...all Hertz 6.5 neo...one amp in tour pac to run 6x9 in lids and I have the RF sub kit in saddlebag...how can I wire the 3 ? @@PkwyDrive13 the 400.4 is too small, they do not produce 100 watt rms x 4 but more like 50 watts per channel, with less power your mids produce less bass, tweeters are very efficient and get loud off very little power, a bigger amp will help the tone, also your amp setting may be incorrect as well
Hey jay I just ordered a DD-1 so I’ll be able to set me gain’s properly on my 07 street glide. My question is I haven’t ordered my cut kit yet from y’all but I DID get my new amp from sinister and my precision power 6x9’s from you. Can I go ahead and run the speaker wires and set the gain for the rear 6x9’s without the speakers being installed yet? I don’t need the Harley plugs cause I have a aftermarket aquatic av head unit. Thanks brother! Your service is amazing!!

How much is it to rent one
Now all I need is a Harley.😁👍
But what about setting the crossover and does that affect the gain position?
@@jakeopperud3700 no crossovers do not effect gain, we use a cc1 crossover calibrator

How do you set gains when you have a RF DSR1 and 3 amps?
What do you do with the settings on the DSR1?
That will be a different video, we do not use the dsr-1 since it loweres the input rca voltage to the amp to 1.5v

The Soundstream radio is clean to volume 50, that is where amp gains should be set to max unclipped output

How do I use that method with an aftermarket system?
This is an aftermarket system
Will this tool work if your only using the two front speakers in the fairing and amp?
Yes
Are you guys using the other smd tools for setting crossovers as well or just set them to the speakers Fs frequency?
We set the crossovers using a cc1 to our specs, we find most speakers will play lower than the manufacturer suggests

How did you make the connector?
I built it from a Harley specific lower y harness and a pair of rcas
Do you sell them by chance I'd love to have those for my shop

We set eq flat when adjusting the amp, then you turn down what is too much, want more treble, turn down the bass, want more bass, turn down the treble
Good morning Jay
How would you find the max volume on a Sony 7000? I have the speakers plugged into a DSR1 thru a harness...??
Why use a dsr1? The Sony has 5volt preouts, the dsr1 lowers rca voltage to 1.5volt

What if your amp doesn’t have gain controls?
All amps have gain controls
If they don’t have gain controls there is no way to adjust, normally this would only be the case in factory installed amplifiers
