The door on my EX is just like yours. No interior door panel, exposed lock mechanisms, door holes, and all. Water has been leaking into the door panel cause the belt molding isn't pressing tight against the window. Just wondering if water has ever been leaking in through the belt molding on your car? I've tried to salvage the current molding, but I think I'm just gonna buy a new one and see if it solves the problem.

The piece of built molding you are using, Does it also include the little rubber flap that rubs the window as it goes up-and-down ?
