For future reference for anyone involved, the phrase “don’t be a stranger” is a hospitable phrase mostly used in the American South, actually used to invite someone in or to encourage them to come out of their shell. As in, “We are comfortable with you, you don’t have to act as if you are a stranger to us.” 👍🏼
@@janjacdr1 are you tripping bruh? dubov was magnus' second in the world championship, won a world rapid before, unlike hikaru who has already beaten hans in a match. dubov is the better players
yeah, i mean, like, come on, like... dont be a stranger, you know? dont be a stranger... dont be a stranger, like.. you know. i mean... yeah, just... yeah
hikaru probably used that phrase to indicate that dubov shouldnt act like he doesnt know his actions. that he skipped on purpose and did not overslept, from hikaru's point of view.
What Hikaru meant was "You are no stranger to the chess world (blitz chess tournaments)" but instead he said "Don't be a stranger". Although not how the saying is typically used, technically he could apply it like that nonetheless.
He definitely did not oversleep but I’m not sure why no one will just say he purposely dissed Hans and why. Dubov could have said something to Levy but did not and was coy but confirmed it was not oversleeping
I mean maybe it could have something to do with Hans suing over it? Only reason that suit got thrown out against Magnus was because he never directly called him a cheater, he only made a cryptic tweet about it after pulling out form the tournament. But even in that case it didnt cost him nothing to defend the suit, and most players who have insurance against that doesnt want their premiums to go up.
@@alexandrefreitas9295 well you are allowed to hold opinions about people and if Dubov has an issue, he should be able to say so. Magnus still ended up being sued despite not saying much.
Not just "Once a cheater, always a cheater". Dubov would have to be exceptionally stupid to believe it was possible for Hans to be cheating in this event. His incredible "statement" is saying I don't think FIDE can stop this guy cheating on this stage, in a blitz match! So clearly a clown and it's good that his so called "principles" potentially cost him the title...
Hikaru adds absolutely nothing to most conversations. Why doesn't he just answer the question? Let's say Dubov didn't oversleep and missing his match vs Niemann as a protest was true, what kind of a protest would it be to help out the very person you're protesting? Answer that Hikaru, instead of just saying "c'mon" over and over agian.
How funny that people criticise Dubov! He has his own term of principle and we should respect that. He a fascinating player and of coure one of a kind personality.
Hikaru is not only rapidly declining in Chess but in his understanding of english expressions. "Don't be a stranger" go nothing to do with false statements. These aging chess stars are jealous of Hans growing chess capacity and need to avoid him and smear him to temporarily maintain their position
I might be wrong but i somehow get a feeling that Hikaru doesnt want us to be a stranger.

How many times did he say ‘don’t be a Stranger’
6 times
C´mon you know the answer don´t be a stranger
Camus would beg to differ
And every time he used it was incorrectly
Too many. The dude repeats himself endlessly.

I'm from the South and this video was hard to watch 😄I was really struggling to figure out what the hell he was trying to say
Dubov is trying to protest against Niemann, but this ends up actually helping him, he is giving Niemann a free point.
I think Hans would be happy if Carlsen used Dubov's protest methods 😅
Dubov would get smoked by Hans so he kinda escaped the embarrassment
@@janjacdr1 are you tripping bruh? dubov was magnus' second in the world championship, won a world rapid before, unlike hikaru who has already beaten hans in a match. dubov is the better players
@@aidencraft32also there’s Magnus who got checkmated in game 1 and defeated Hikaru, Hans is not a weak player as you think, he is a good blitz player.
@@aidencraft32 That's not how it works LMAO. Dubov is a fantastic player but Hans surpassed him at the present time.
A talking Hikaru doll would say things like "It is what it is" ; "I literally don't care" ; "Don't be a stranger" ; and "Takes, takes, takes, takes".
This felt like AI generation.
actually he's trying to say come on you guys you know
yeah, i mean, like, come on, like... dont be a stranger, you know? dont be a stranger... dont be a stranger, like.. you know. i mean... yeah, just... yeah
I'm confused by his usage of "Don't be a stranger" tbh. He clearly means it like: "Don't beat around the bush." But that's not what that phrase means.
Don't be a stranger, bro

@Mingorix okay but that's not what the saying means at all lmao
I think Hikaru meant that oversleeping would be a 'stranger' thing to do, implying everyone, including Dubov, knows that's not what really happened.
Hikaru really wanted dubov to feel what he felt after loosing to hans.
Like at the speed chess championship 🤔
He took one of those power naps😂
If you watch the interview with any passive amount of interest It's obvious even Dubov doesn't believe Dubov. Geez guys, don't be a stranger.
I can't believe Hikaru doesn't believe Dubov overslept
Thank goodness the word "hilarious" was in caps or I wouldn't have known this was funny.
🙂
This Hikaru clone is impressive

I don't know why all public figures seem to communicate entirely in implications. Either say what you mean or say nothing at all

Yup, anything they say will be recorded and could be used against them in the court of law.
"If I say anything Im in big trouble" anything comes to mind?
@@alexandrefreitas9295 well you are allowed to hold opinions about people and if Dubov has an issue, he should be able to say so. Magnus still ended up being sued despite not saying much.
He would have said it was a protest, but he did not want to get sued for wrongful insinuation that leads to loss of reputation for someone.
Magnus played him and drew… Dubov was afraid he was gonna lose
That's not what "don't be a stranger" means right?
Everyone knows what happened and why no one is willing tô talk about it...
Dubov made it pretty clear that it eas not about oversleeping. It was clearly a protest against Hans and I respect him for it.
Man it doesn't make sense, Dubov hates Hans and he gave him free point. really?
It’s strange he decides to use a phrase he clearly doesn’t know the meaning of to repeat like a broken record.
classic Hiki
I feel by now I've learned to read when Hikaru is about to enter his broken-record rhetoric, this being one such example, called it😎

Hikaru is actually the one with the conspiracy here.
He was in bed, but he wasn't asleep... sheesh... he overslept with Sarah...
Isnt that crazy, Hans is becoming more mature, but Hikaru, Dubov and Magnus becoming immature

Hans defeated Hikaru. So Dubov is scared. Thats it.
Yeah, like seriously? Nobody's "oversleeping" in the World Blitz Championship. It's clearly a statement. It's so obvious lol.
