This season Trent has more clearances than Walker, Rodri, Robertson. He has more Interceptions than ruben dias, saliba, gabriel, gvardiol, walker, Rodri, Maguire, Trippier, Mainoo. He is 3rd in the whole league in last man tackles. He has more tackles than Ruben dias, Robertson, ajer, Walker to name a few.
And he has only played 28 games. Less than the others but better defensive stats.
Stop with the sheep narrative. He's a very good defender.
It is probably one of the laziest narratives in English football.
He well behind Maguire, rice and trippier for clearances in the league. And he’s 127th in the league for successful tackles.

I actually agree. I think Rice/Trent/Bellingham would be lethal as a midfield 3. Rice holding, Trent there to ping passes left and right to the wingers and Bellingham box to box.

Quansar and Gomez are serious options in the centre of defence; two players who have played in incredibly pressurised games. Compare that to players from Everton or Crystal palace, it's a no brainer
Brantwhaite is very powerful in aerial specially in corner set pieces. Who knows he will be the match winner through header. And he is 6'5

@@Rigg96 Alexander Arnold doesn’t bring balance. We’d have a better balance playing one holder with two 8s. Foden and Bellingham. They defend well enough to play the box to box role. I always wonder if playing a number 10 ever really brings balance or do you just ask your wingers to defend too much.

Even if Southgate did go with that approach is he then going to change the team entirely for the knockout rounds if it has been working so well? You can't just chop and change like that - you need to carry momentum and a winning feeling in the team. After watching Ollie Watkins dispatch his penalty confidently in the penalty shootout away against Lille in the Conference League quarter-final (after having to wait 2 minutes to receive a ball), I have no concerns with Watkins at all. The media love affair over Toney is just bizarre to me. I'm almost convinced he's got a PR firm influencing this narrative because he's had a dreadful season.
Compare their penalty records and you’ll see why rather than focusing on 1 penalty

If Palmer doesn't fit in with Foden, Saka, Kane Bellingham and Rice it will be criminal. Trent doesn't deserve to start after his lack of playing and be risked in that midfielder role. Palmer should slot in the left flank in my opinion with Foden in the left side just behind as a attacking midfielder, most have free roaming anyway. Left back is a great concern for us
So Trent doesn’t deserve to start in midfield because of a lack of playing in that role. Palmer has to start on the left, when he literally hasn’t played on the left? Cracking logic. Trent would be comfortable playing next to rice as he basically occupies the 6/8 roles for Liverpool in possession, that’s the areas of the pitch he plays, the bonus is he wouldn’t have to rush back into the rb spot to cover, Trent would be more than capable of playing in that role. You can’t just chuck on Bellingham, foden,palmer and Saka who all like to play in advanced positions and have rice back by himself. Especially when rice this season has also been a box to box midfielder and has thrived.

@@havz9080 The fact that he’s also benefited by the amount of goals scored by Salah and mane in after receiving a pass and then taken on defenders and he takes the corners. The last 3 seasons he’s made 693 crosses and 65 through balls and a 138 shots with 31 on target 5% shots success 78% pass completion rate 97 appearances 7 goals and 25 assists. The most consistent thing about him is he literally triples his goals and assists in the last 3rd of the season. He’s consistently out of position and beaten at the back post and the amount of goals conceded in his defensive position is insane. He is not very reactive at defensive cover. If you think playing him in midfield is the answer then you should look at the amount of times he loses possession and he stats don’t compare to the top 10 midfielders in his position. He’s the 4th overall rb and you think he’s the answer. Conner Bradley is gonna take his defensive position and he won’t get a midfield role for Liverpool and if someone is willing to waste millions on him then they should cash in because he’s under preformed for his last 4 seasons

Trent hasn't been good consistently for a long time.
He's been average this season and poor in 22/23. He's had a 4 weeks period of good form at the end of November this season and done very little outside of that.
The same in 22/23, he had a good spell at the end of the season but outside of that he was poor.
Even in 20/21, he was quite poor. His last run of good form over a few months was the first half of 21/22.
He's also never been good consistently for England.

Walker has to start at RB. Rice in CM.... no place for Trent.
Yes there is. Not a starter, but if you need a goal and there's 20minutes, 15 minutes to go, who's a better passer of the ball than Trent in the England squad? Nobody. Slip him into the midfield role and he's capable of creating a goal, or if there's a dead ball situation, not many better than him to go for goal.
