Basra is the economic capital of Iraq, but it was greatly affected by the wars. It was built 1387 years ago. It has many scientists, philosophers and poets, the first of whom is Hassan Al-Basri, passing through Ibn Al-Haytham Al-Basri, an Arab Muslim encyclopedic scholar who made great contributions in mathematics, optics, physics, astronomy, engineering and medicine. Eyes, scientific philosophy, visual perception, and science in general, with his experiments that he conducted using the scientific method, and he has many books and discoveries, ending with Farouk Al-Qasim, a scientist in oil geology, born in 1934 in Basra, southern Iraq, and famous for his role in oil exploration in Norway.

It's refreshing to see my birthplace; once was called the Venice of Middle East. Not anymore, I guess. Since the rise of idiot Saddam to power in the late 1970s and the city has plummeted into chaos and destruction. I still have hope that this gorgeous city would regain its glory days. TH-camrs have restored my faith in that notion, too.
