Note that this does NOT include Addon tracks for SRB2K. There's a bunch I recognized from playing myself, but this video is long enough as is with just the base game tracks. This was recorded as of version 2.3. Any changes made in future versions isn't part of this video.
It's crazy honestly. I didn't think they looked bad in Kart, and when I first saw most of these in ring racers I wondered why they changed at all But now I can't go back
the glow up in rr for all of these are insane tbh though, speaking of returning kart tracks, I kind of wish spb cup (not including desert palace) were remakes of the community map versions of those stages from kart, but i get why they wouldn't do that i still do fairly like the rr variants, but they don't quite hit the same dopamine levels id get from playing their kart variants also wish they'd have a recycle cup 3 tbh, plenty of base game srb2k maps to pick out still i think honeybee industries and grand metropolis could be especially great maps to include in a hypothetical extra recycle cup, considering one was replaced in kart and the other is incredibly iconic not that i think *every* base kart map shouldve returned, some are best left behind, but i think they couldve recycled some more fun ones though, i thought it was a bit weird having the recycle cups be both tracks made for rr and returning tracks in one grandprix
Rest in peace honeybee industries Shall forever be remembered as one of the best tracks of all time I'm with you here, I wish they had a recycle cup 3 with some of the iconic maps from the time Though I didn't get to play the community made levels of SPB Cup (Wasn't even aware they existed, hence why I didn't wanna risk addon tracks LOL)
You mean Grand Metropolis? Power Plant was the battle stage (which did return btw but Idc about battle tracks for this video) Grand Metropolis would've gone so hard tho!
I'll be honest: seeing the improvements side-by-side really makes me hope we get some of the neglected tracks back, revamped in style. Like, say, Megablock Castle, or a new-and-improved Misty Maze(Aqueduct Crystal is nice, but...)
aqueduct crystal was such a letdown for me. I knew Dark Fortress had made the cut, so I was hyped to see that we'd have two megamix zones, but unfortunately misty maze didnt get turned into anything to write home about so RIP
ngl. seeing stages from SRB2 Kart in this game is like playing the recent Mario Kart games (mainly DS, Wii, 7 and 8) and seeing tracks from the previous games return, it's really cool
It really does speak to how loudly different the new iterations of the tracks are. If only a lot of them didnt make entire pathways the thinnest catwalks to fall off of or bump into claustrophobic walls.
I don't consider Abyss Garden as Ancient Tomb's remake or something because is so much different then even looks different and play so much different. Also Green hills in Ring Racers is based on Green hills from Sonic 2 from Game Gear, not the Genesis.
I was on the edge for Abyss Garden personally, but I got a few comments about it on the original video, so I included it here just in case Green hills was similar enough for me to include even in the original video though
@@CyberpunkPizza Green Hills, Aurora Atoll, Hot Shelter and Abyss Garden were all on very shaky grounds, to the point where the latter 2 weren't even in the original video. Redoing it gave me a chance to look at them again. And while I'm still split on Abyss Garden, I was gonna get comments about it regardless. So I saved it for last so it doesn't get in the way (plus it worked out to make a cooler ending lol)
@@OlmiOP i always considered green hills rr to be a direct upgrade to the original. literally the same layout just like.. amplified? i guess you could say?
@@OlmiOP aww I loved toxic palace. Also, I wonder if Kart Crew could re-create some of the Sega All-Star racing tracks for a hypothetical Sega Cup. Either from the consoles or the DS version
SRB2K - it shows its legacy of something made in Doom engine. Like, when there was no DRRR to compare it to, it looked cute, but now that there is, it looks unfortunately underwhelming. Nevertheless, I still want try to and beat it some day, if only for the tracks which were not recreated for DRRR. DRRR is its own thing and in a league of its own. More map details, more map geometry, more slopes, distinct style and palette - SRB2K feels flat all around in comparison. Also, I am not sure whether it is the engine favouring blue shades when deciding which color to pick, or the artists generally choosing blue-ish colors when baking the textures, but the game glows with the color blue, kinda reinforcing the vibe of something being played on an SMD and on a CRT screen
oh ok thanks for checking! i thought the mini maps looked quite similar with a new turn being added to the bottom right which personally convinced me but i guess the actual layout could of been changed much more to make them much less similar
frankly i love the visual improvements but the gameplay just feels horrid i hate the ring mechanic and i actually feel SLOW playing a SONIC RACING GAME i am glad some people still keep their SRB2K servers up and running
The Hill Top in Vanilla SRB2K is a completely different track from the Hill Top in Ring Racers, which is based off an addon track of SRB2K, and I didn't feature those because I don't have a full list of them so it'd be very easy to miss some, and would also make this already long video even longer lol

Damn I only noticed it thanks to the side by side, but the improved visuals really do go a MASSIVELY long way to improving track readability

Imagine Grand Metropolis as a racing circuit in ring racers, with all the new visual updates, mechanics and better artstyle 😍😍

I see you finally saw what I saw with that map. And almost forgot about a few others that have been included.
Yeah, the music helped too tbh
I wonder why they didn’t bring over/remake Toxic Palace or Volcanic Valley from SRB2 Kart to Ring Racers
I personally wasn't a fan of either of those, so good riddance I say

one track i noticed (thanks to the music) was the hell map "black bliss" seemingly being turned into "vantablack violet"

This video is already 40 minutes long. I did not want to make it even longer by adding the maps from a mode that 90% of players do not care about

@@OlmiOP Yeah, fair point. At least the arenas have gotten better prevalence in Ring Racers in comparison.
Oof, Daytona's music got downgraded.
notice that the ring racers tracks are much more cluttered, confusing, and visually noisy than the SRB2K tracks
Coastal Temple is the only one where I really had any issues with that personally, and even that one's fine
Nah.
Agreed. It's an upgrade to be sure, but it does lean towards visually noisy at times.
The Daytona one sucks in Ring racers ngl
And I’m saying this as someone who likes the art direction in Ring Racers, but for the Daytona one it’s mainly the music that sucks
Eh. It's different, but I wouldn't say it sucks
