Ren has lit the beacons and is calling for help from the entire reaction community. He has a song coming out next Thursday that is about the situation with his song sick boi. There is a video on his main yt channel and a community post that will give context and explain. Loved your reaction to this one, this song gets me to tear up every time
Ren also doesn’t want his fans or any one to abuse kujo as well. If you listened to the whole thing... soooooo don’t be going over to his page talking shit. That’s another reason why he made the song. For his revenge. Not us fans causing a ruckus.
I kind of felt like the first part was more what he went through (the tomb reference is something he’s used to describe his existence more than once) and the end part was Joe. Joe’s ending was why Ren chose a different path although he was close many times. It could go either way, which is the great part about art. 💜
This is a song about his best childhood friend, Joe, who took his own life by jumping off a bridge. Freckled angels is another song about Joe. Thanks for your reaction. This song has a personal meaning for me and it has a special place in my heart. 💗
It's not about medication, it's about missing his best friend, who (possibly) ended his own life. Ren's song Su!c!de ends with a good description of Joe's leaving.
There's a short cut to knowing his story, listen "Troubles". There are two versions, music video came first and then there's a live version. Both well worth listening, well worth. Maybe doing a long video listening them both!? I think that it doesn't take anything away from enjoying the journey, But if you decide not taking the short cut, then I suggest you'd listen "Ready for you". That is my all time favourite of his songs.
This is the second song in a 4 song arc about Joe. 1) Freckled Angels 2) How To Be Me 3) Su*cide 4) For Joe ( which comes full circle with Freckled Angels) My interpretation: Losing Joe left Ren feeling adrift.Joe was the funniest and kindest person and was always there for Ren.They were at a pub one night around the holidays ( years ago) and Joe was struggling but likely down played it and so they each left. Ren got a call at 3am from a mutual friend telling him that Joe was on the Menai bridge. Ren ran as fast as he could to get there. He kept calling and as long as it was ringing he had hope…until it stopped. They searched for days, weeks and never found him. I hear The Telltale Heart when he sings “ bodies in the floors, and they breathe - so- loudly “. I think it’s both guilt over leaving him that night, guilt over not getting there on time, and survivor’s guilt ( See S*icide and For Joe). I also feel that part of what kept Ren fighting for so many years, even when he wanted to stop ( everything) was remembering that Joe gave up HIS fight and 13+ years later Ren still feels his loss so deeply.❤
Nice reaction. Thanks for doing this. It's been a very stressful time for Ren on several different fronts. We've been rallying in support. Powerful new songs coming out. Will be watching for your reaction.❤
Ken, now that you are familiar with Chinchilla, you MUST watch her solo, LIVE, "Fingers", for Hunger TV, she really goes off in this , MY Favorite solo.
I always thought it was about grief and depression. In the song Su1cide he mentions that he changed the night Joe died from an innocent 19 year old child to a world weary adult. So by changing he forgot how to be that innocent. Also a lot of his symbolism about talking to the dead etc are from his hallucinations while in the middle of his psychotic break. In Seven Sins he literally describes one of his hallucinations "God tied a nooss around his neck and jumped, angels watched and I beared witness" (not sure the wording is correct) As sweet as his music sounds it usually has very dark lyrics.
Last year into this year I stripped my mother-in law house down to the concrete floor and wall studs as well as raising and replacing the ceiling so that my sister could move into it. I did all the work myself from start to finish except for installing central heat and air. Fun, but time consuming and frustrating at times. It's great knowing how to do lots of things but can sure be a pain in the ass trying to decide which project comes first and constantly wanting to be working on a different one at the same time. You feel that you are always behind on something. I'm thinking of doing a video about being a creative with so many interests and how it can be wonderful and daunting all at the same time.
This is a recurring theme , suicide and for joe are the same subject , bring your tissues for both of these , Ren made the internet cry the night the both dropped 🇬🇧😊
REN at age 34 has been through more than people have been in a lifetime😢. Lost his best friend Joe, and carried the guilt of being too late😢 The song was about it haunting him until he was able to release it. 6 months later, Ren lost another good friend Callum drown in the ocean , then 2nd boy jumped into save him and lost both to drowning 😭 That's a lot by the age 21.Ren has raised awareness and money for the life searching crews🛥️,💛 Then of course being bit by a tick and misdiagnosed for so many years that put him homebound mostly in bed all day and liquid diet etc ( Have you watched the 1 million subscriber short video yet ?? ) and things made worse by the misdiagnosis, mismanagement of his medications etc but he is a man of resilience,💪 to never give up👍 and you would think he would have a hard heart after all this instead he wants to help others thrive and has always had a big heart of gold💛 ( 2016 song," It's all right" a good one for you to check out, Young ring but he was at the height of his sickness but still went out to spread love 🫶 absolutely love that song 🎶 and true friendships you can see that with pictures & stories and songs going way back before he got to even making music. So the lot of songs all don't have to deal with his sickness , they're just life experiences of loss of good friends in different ways ( I hope you check out his beautiful video" McKay 🎹 released early this year 💗) and also sometimes Ren will put an explanation when he puts a video out of why he wrote it, So gives context to the song. ( I'm sure you will get to know more about Ren's story) As mentioned above his first album that he never thought he put out, Because he thought he was going to die from illness , was "Freckled Angels and that was for his friend Joe💞. Ren has a way of putting lyrics & music 🎶 to what people thinking their mind but just can't express 💛 and that's why his music is healing and relatable to millions.💛 Unfortunately we've all had the tragic of having a deal with the loss of a love someone, through various reasons😭 and don't know how to let go or how to deal with it, or had medical mismanagement, medical gaslighting etc. and for Ren to wear his heart on the sleeve to show the world all you've gone through, It's a special person " 💕 and he has word of wisdoms like the money game trilogy at age 34, some kids don't even know how to balance checkbook let alone be able to explain economics etc.. I do enjoy your breakdowns, You have a lot of insight, I don't mind the pauses 😉 Just if so close to the end like you were... I just was like please🙏 let it finish😉 , You will see the context of the song. Maybe let the song play the last few seconds, if close Sometimes many songs come together on the last line to explain them. Been following you for a while and look forward to more , Have a great week 💞
Thanks for all the info. I do have most of the ones you mentioned on the list and will try to keep the context in mind. It sure helps when deciphering lyrics.
I think he put hallelujah here as his desire to ressurect from the feeling of being internally dead to being alive again, being himself again. This song gets me every time ❤
I envy your journey down the Renverse, i remember when i first found him and it was amazing, but then im exciting to hear his new music so im not complaining, Chinchilla is a queen ❤
I have always felt that up until the last lines, this could be geard from the perspective of someone who has been left behind by a loved one who chose to leave us too soon, or from the perspective of the person who was struggling to stay alive.
If you made some negative comments about Chinchilla's nails, you should know why she wears them. She has serious stage fright. She has said in interviews that the nails are a sort of armor. The nails & her outfits allow her, Daisy Matilda Bertenshaw, to "become" Chinchilla.
I wasn't making negative comments that I cut out. I was just asking about practicality of the whole culture with the extra long nails in general as a fashion thing as a discussion but I knew some people would take it as me attacking her.
Song regarding situation with Kujo coming out next Thursday. Please watch. Loved your reaction to this, the last part of the song was about his best friend Joe who committed suicide when they were both teenagers. He’s written two other songs about Joe. This song breaks me wide open every time. Thank you for this 💜😊💜❤️🔥
Hi Ken! I usually just listen to your videos at work. (I'm a bus driver, so it wouldn't be appropriate to actually watching while working) Now I had the time to actually read your "cv" at the beginning of this video, and I guess in some earlier videos too. I almost envy you for such broad field of expertise, almost. I too know a lot of lot of things and consider myself as a jack of many trades. What I loved the most was that you are a lego designer! What I am going to do now is that I'll leave your video for now and go find my (daughter's) legos and build something. Perhaps an aeroplane.
Thanks for your comment and sharing your love of being a Jack of All Trades. I had to go and look to see the Lego part. I almost hate to correct it because you said it was what you loved most but it actually says logo design. It shouldn't diminish your desire to go build something out of Legos though. You sounded excited to give it a go.
Aaaaaaaaaaa... this is hilarious. Oh well, small screen, that font and where did I put my glasses.. Nothing wrong with designing logos, that's very important. But I really recommend legos too for I think people should spend more time playing with toys.
Off topic, but have you seen this Post yet? Message from Ren's YT page: CALLING ON ALL THE REACTION COMMUNITY. Over the last year, ive allowed anyone in the reaction community who reaches out to monitize any reactions to my music, helped push pages etc. and never asked anything in return, till now ;) Im releasing a song next Thursday, its a special one, i went all in, in the video, lyrics, and production, and i mean that, i don't say it lightly, if you want to know more about the background for it please check out the last video on my youtube account regarding the legal situation and dig in, it'll give you all the context you need. Would love you to react to the video next week Lets make this moment a special one.
Why 'Hallelujah'? It might be a little homage to Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley. Ren mentioned them as some of the biggest singing inspirations for him
Rens cry to god makes me cry. The talking to the dead and dead people in the floors breathing, and calling it a tomb (what he called his bed he was trapped in for years), I think all relates to when he was in psychosis as he said he was seeing things from the underworld. Terrifying. 😢 The end is about his best friend Joe who jumped off a bridge when he was a teen.
Thanks for a great reaction!😁 If you would like a few more suggestions for your to-do list 😜 Two great Chinchilla tracks are! "Chinchilla - 1:5 (Live)" and "Cut you off". And Ren is featured in a new song that just dropped a few days ago. Chris Webby - Baggage (feat. Ren) [Official Video] which is absolutely amazing! Oh and I suffer from sleep paralysis sometimes. It Is absolutely terrifying. Being conscious but not being able to move or even open your eyes.😪
I believe Ren is saying that after losing his best friend, Joe, so suddenly and tragically he forgot how to be himself and was unable to move forward (wish I could move) and felt almost dead himself!
Oh, Do react to "For Joe" at some point. Also, more urgently as a request from Ren for reactors to react to Sick Boi 2 - There is stuff going on with the original Sick Boi
I have read through most of the comments and I totally understand you asking for not too many explanations and information etc. as it can simply be repeat, repeat, repeat 🙄 ... so, I will just say " Great reaction, as usual Ken, thank you for your channel, you are most appreciated " 🙏 Pete x
Love this reaction. I interpret this song the same way you do - even more so upon the release of his Life Story Chapters a few months back - of being so ill and struggling to cope with life, loss, and grief. I can definitely relate, though I have not heard either Ren or Chinchilla talk about the song’s meaning (this was co-written by Chinchilla). As I understand it, only the last line is a direct reference to his friend Joe. As for the setting, this was filmed in Brighton I believe (a lot of people think it’s the bridge where Joe was lost, but that has been shown to not be the case by people familiar with the bridge). I appreciate your musical analysis too. Yep, these 2 are something special.
I sincerely hope those two will do additional projects in the future together. Their voices coexist and harmonize very well. Looks like you already have been made aware to his release next week in response to the Sick-Boi beat controversy. So I won't repeat it here 😊
I really loved this reaction. Your appreciation, attention to detail and jokes. I am way late to this. It was posted after I went to bed. So, I am SURE you have ALL of the clarification requsted. You have an AMAZING day.
I believe it was in an interview where I saw Ren talk about his friend Joe. Ren was asleep in bed at about 3 o’clock in the morning when he got a call from a friend saying that Joe was on a bridge close to his house about to jump. Ren threw his clothes on and ran as fast as he could to the bridge, but he was about three minutes late. They never found Joe’s body.
@@sarahsfavfan No problem. I see that comment all the time, but not only are they clearly on a building roof, but the Menai Bridge is a huge suspension bridge akin to the Brooklyn Bridge. Even if you could find a spot on it to film, the constant traffic noise would make any recording unusable.
If you haven’t already done so, I’m hoping you are going to dive into the Chinchilla rabbit hole soon! Start with “Fingers live for Hunger tv,” and “Little Girl Gone,” live version!
i have sleep paralysis my entire life. For me i was told my brain wakes up before my body has the chance to respond. But it is super freaky! I love this song!
Ren’s friend Joe unalived himself and Ren raced to save him but he jumped minutes before Ren got there. Ren has carried immense guilt over not being able to save his best friend he totally lost himself and didn’t know how to find himself. Hence he forgot how to be himself. Hope this gives you a bit more context.
Great reaction as always ❤ I won't bore you by repeating what the others have said, but may I suggest that you read the pinned comments Ren left on his Suic!de video before reacting to it. Same for the For Joe video as it helps get context to both these songs and better tells his story. 😊
You are very close in your conclusions. Ren had a friend named Joe that took his own life. For Joe is a tribute to his friend that has versus from three different Ren songs, Suicide, Dominos and Frekled Angels.
OOOO... please don't read ahead. Pause as much as you need to. I'm not one of those "pause whiners". I think the "sickness" had MORE effect on his stuff with The Big Push, than his stuff with Trick the Fox. But I accept that I could be wrong. I know that you are concerned about "views", but I think that there are a few Chinchilla songs that will get lots of views. "Fingers (Live)", "1:5" especially. You should also do Ren's "For Joe" and "Suicide". VERY emotional stuff. I don't know which you should do first. They both have one common part in the song. And you will understand THIS song, more
I have quit reading ahead because of other comments as well. I hate that I have to worry about views, but this is what I am trying to do now to combine something I enjoy doing with how I can get by. I do know a lot of the story behind this now but I do still plan to do all of the one's you suggested sometime soon. I have al of them in my Songs for Reactions Playlist. Thanks for the comment BTW

I am sorry, I feel we have let you down a little with this song. Perhaps hearing *For Joe, or even *Suic*de first would have helped you make sense of this more easily. Well done sorting it out as you did. Like another commenter, @angelluhman9006, I thought it was the same with different timing, but, what do I know about it; can't play any instrument and am so flat singing I mine words if singing in company!
It’ll be a couple of tough listens and even if you don’t do a reaction I highly suggest you listen to “suic!de” and then “for Joe” it’s explains this situation.

Kujo bout to find out.
A beat-down of epic perportions incoming 😊
Ren dealt with depersonalization for the 1st few years of his illness. That same time he lost Joe.
Ren also doesn’t want his fans or any one to abuse kujo as well. If you listened to the whole thing... soooooo don’t be going over to his page talking shit. That’s another reason why he made the song. For his revenge. Not us fans causing a ruckus.
Exactly! It's not for us RENegades to go and start causing trouble, as much as we would love to stick by Ren...
I read or saw an interview where Ren said the song is from his friend Joe's point of view until that last part at the end switches to Ren's POV
Thanks; that's the way I always interpreted it.
It was about his friend, Joe. His album , Freckled Angels, was also for him.
This is the answer. I think there's another song about his friend right?
@@pyrotarkusyes, the other song is called simply “For Joe” .
@@AnnCameron-jv4us thank you !
REN and Chinchilla refer to themselves as musical siblings ❤
Ren's best friend Joe is why he wrote this song. There is another one called For Joe, and also the song called Suicide the last part was about Joe.
Yes, listening to "For 🎉Joe" [Hughes] and "Freckled Angels" (JH had a lot of freckles) will explain why his loss was so devastating for Ren
I kind of felt like the first part was more what he went through (the tomb reference is something he’s used to describe his existence more than once) and the end part was Joe. Joe’s ending was why Ren chose a different path although he was close many times.
It could go either way, which is the great part about art. 💜

Listen to his song su!cide
It's not about medication, it's about missing his best friend, who (possibly) ended his own life. Ren's song Su!c!de ends with a good description of Joe's leaving.
The downside of not reacting to his songs in order. But, at least I get the background eventually
There's a short cut to knowing his story, listen "Troubles". There are two versions, music video came first and then there's a live version. Both well worth listening, well worth. Maybe doing a long video listening them both!?
I think that it doesn't take anything away from enjoying the journey,

my favorite duet of all!❤
They clearly understand their vocal abilities, allowing them to fully embody the song and performance, rather than just focusing on technique. This might explain why their live performances - both together and individually - are so compelling. They also appreciate the value of imperfections, treating them as a feature rather than a flaw. Chinchilla's voice is arguably among the best today. I love the moment when she shakes her head as Ren begins his offset; she’s completely in the moment. Their deep understanding of each other is evident in how they give each other space, enhancing their collaboration. Chinchilla refers to her nails, and rings as her armor. I think we are supposed to notice and also make cheeky comments about them.
- I enjoyed your reaction once again, particularly the editor's notes and humor. Your eclectic background resonated with me, as I admire curious minds. The unexpected contrast of skills is something I relate, and it has become a meme with my friends, who are still surprised by varied background. i.e - Before watching this reaction, I finished leveling a bathroom floor and installed a toilet. Next week, I hope to finish running new electrical and texture drywall. Which I think is fairly normal, except most people know me as an information and data scientist that also does research work in cognition and some neuroscience.
I also liked seeing your design background, when I was 14, I apprenticed for year in graphic design, old and new techniques, line tape and PMTs, to editing postscript by hand and still remembering too many alt codes─©• » lol
PS I don't have the music skills you do, mine are all by proxy from family or and borrowed from people like yourself that have rich and intriguing insights.

My thought too. I particularly love Jeff Buckley's version, emotional without being over the top.
This song is about the deep despair of grief.

No drugs just deep grief for close friend.
Really great song and reaction too. Thanks ❤
Thanks so much. You have an amazing day as well!
Thank you RIP JOE HUGHES ❤❤❤
Crap i might have shared this to the ren reaction Facebook again😂🎉
Always appreciated. Thanks
check out for joe. its who this song was inspired by. also the earlier dedication freckled angels off the album of the same name
Calling the Renegade Brigade ❤
Great reaction
Thanks!
I've never thought how well these lyrics also apply to sleep paralysis before. (I have bouts of it too, thankfully not that bad recently.)
Mine has pretty much gone away thankfully. Glad to hear yours has subsided.
The only time I've forgotten how to be me is grief. This feels obvious to me.
I believe they sang on the bridge Joe jumped from. I read that somewhere.
It is absolutely not the bridge where Joe "jumped". It's a rooftop in Brighton.
@@yonahgrossman7319 Thank you for clearing that up.
I will be doing Fingers live at the very least.
i have sleep paralysis my entire life. For me i was told my brain wakes up before my body has the chance to respond. But it is super freaky! I love this song!
Mine has luckily gone away but I lived with it for a good fifteen years or so.
Rewatching ❤
It is about Joe Ken.
It does and I will be doing the other two about this incident
Great reaction as always ❤ I won't bore you by repeating what the others have said, but may I suggest that you read the pinned comments Ren left on his Suic!de video before reacting to it. Same for the For Joe video as it helps get context to both these songs and better tells his story. 😊
Good suggestion. I haven't been reading them but, now that I know he does that, I will check from now on.
You are very close in your conclusions. Ren had a friend named Joe that took his own life. For Joe is a tribute to his friend that has versus from three different Ren songs, Suicide, Dominos and Frekled Angels.
I resonate so much with this song, we have all forgotten how to be ourselves at one point or another. 🥹💜💜
Get your hearing checked. These lyrics are as clear as day. Still liked the reaction. ❤
Lol, get your eyes checked - Ken wrote why he was checking the lyrics. 😊
'unlifing' next. It will give you the insight you seek...
The sad eyes blind ing him are just blurred from crying so much. As people have stated it's about the aftermath of dealing with life after Joe died.
❤❤❤
🥰🥰
To better understand the song you really should watch/listen to Ren's track Su!cide about his friend Joe
It's been on the list but I didn't know the 3 songs were around the same event and would help inform the others.
I think this song is a perfect segway to Su!clde and after that for Joe.
Fair warning, never read ahead with Ren. You'll probably be muting a future punch in the gut if you do!
Really good suggestion.
OOOO... please don't read ahead.
It's to do with Joe I think you will find
Дорогой друг, познакомьтесь, пожалуйста, с прекрасной российской певицей:

I'm a fan but reading the lyrics before hearing the song takes the emotion out and kills the reaction. Had to turn it off. Damn
That was a mistake. Won't happen again with Ren.
You've gotta see Chinchilla Fingers (Live for Hunger TV)!🫶She is incredible!!
I wish I could give more thumbs up on this comment.
