And Sam...cameraman and important part of this creative force. The Jenny & Screech Trilogy, Money Game Part 3...the power of their simplicity...takes the p*ss out of big budget video makers 😁
@@philproffitt8363 i contemplated saying two geniuses, because of course i thought of sam, , but thought it might confuse the less knowledgeable. iwas going for succinctness but we renegades realize that there are many people that are involved and contribute to the genius of ren
Stages of this masterpiece: - Nice scene, but creepy - Oh cool guitar play - Wait, is this live? He’s plugged in?! - Uhm what’s going on here??? Creepy scene, then classic guitar, then high pitch kind of opera singing, not what I expected! - Now he’s rapping?! Sounds a bit like Eminem - Oh, he’s talking to himself and his mental health? - What the f is happening now??!! I need a break! Make it Stop!!! - There is HOPE after all, YES!!! You go man! - Now he’s singing??!! He CAN sing, oh my god what the hell! - Ooo oooo oooo oooo - Wow!!! - Ahh that’s his story - Stunned Silence. I need a minute - Summary- A masterpiece
The lights only flash on the negative version of REN. It happens in popular media when a demon or evil spirit is around. As an edit, it is why the lights start flashing near the end because it is still there, it is just in the back of him waiting for a rebirth.
OK, biased Renegade - got your first spot! Almost everyone goes right to "serious" mental illness, then realize and relax as they see it's the angel and devil on our shoulders. :) Ren has a fairly big catalog for his time recording. I was a Beatles/Stones, then Prince fan (and everything in-between), and Ren is the first real ray of light in decades.
i feel the same,(Stones nut here) love his busking doing the 'old bands' tunes, Ren is the first artist in years thats finally totally unique and ohh soo talented!!, as always we wish him the best of health and its like christmas every single time he drops a new release
I have an interesting story for you. My younger sister as a teenager, who helped run the Beatles fan club for the State of Delaware in the late 60's, left home unbeknownst to my parents a couple of months after turning 17, hopped on a plane and worked for Apple Records. She met all of the Beatles! but she and George were especially close. I have a photo of her with John Lennon's arm around her. I was SO stupid and thought I couldn't leave a guy I had just fallen for, to go to London and visit her. We DID see them in concert in 65 or 66 in Philly at JFK Stadium. I still remember all of their oldest songs. Baby Boomer Music was a Cultural Exposion of Experimental Genius!!!! Ren would have fit right in!! ☺🎼🎸🎙🎹🥁🎶🔊🤘
You might want to note that Ren loves his reactors, and will never give a copyright strike. (you can contact him on his channel if there is ever a problem). You are about 1400th reactor for this one so you now join the tribe that has helped him to get 30 million views on this video and a number one album as an independent artist. He can't preform live, so it's all been done on TH-cam! You will be another 20 songs into his catalogue before you have seen even a little of the range of his skills! There is one audio track here (with post production) and the video cut from four takes before their guerilla shoot was terminated by the landlord. Many of his videos are in a single take, including the award winning 'Money Game' trilogy. Don't forget to find out about his background by listening to his 'One Million Subscribers' message on TH-cam, you will understand him so much better!
@@ige-individualgroupeffort-kenlEthan Baer is his copyright guy. Many of us Renegades have his contact details if you ever get a copyright strike. He will sort it for you. Just shout out and we will give it you.
It's actually a live, one take, using multiple cameras. It wasn't cut from 4 takes. They managed to do 4 takes and decided the 3rd take, this one, was the best one, even though Ren wasn't entirely happy with it.
@@Codex7777 That's not what Ren said in interview. The audio track of the music is from one (the third) take. The video is edited from two takes (watch how the Lav mike moves!). He also said in an interview that the spoken word on the end was from a third take. In his words 'It was a bit of a Frankenstein'! (If they hadn't been thrown out after four takes they might have gone on to make it in one take, but life intervened). I'm just being guided by Ren's own words, since I understand he was actually there ;-) !!
He is actual genius . Self taught world class multiple instrumentals piano drums base classic and electric guitar prodigy. Andrew Loyed Webber called him the Best story teller he's knows REN is that one Nobody's doing what he is doing Because they can't.
Wait, what? Andrew Lloyd Webber has seen Ren? *goes to look it up*... wow, apparently so. "one of the most unique songwriters and storytellers I've seen in recent times" (a bit more equivocal than you had it, but still close to the mark)... cool!
@@DavidLindes Yes, ALW has seen Ren because his sons own The Other Songs. The Other Songs looks after Ren’s publishing interests and put on yearly galas with performances by songwriters they represent. Years ago, Alistair Webber was with Island Records and met Ren in 2011 - at about the same time that Ren had to leave his music career.
You have now experienced the genius that is Ren. Everything matters. Lyrics, melody, voice, visual arts, symbolism, metaphor. There’s so much to this guy.
Always nice to find a new thoughtful and insightful reaction to Hi Ren. How fitting that a RENaissance man has discovered REN (and RENegades).😊 Sinéad O'Connor discovered Ren in May 2022, just two months before she died. Here is what she wrote when she shared the link to Hi Ren. “Holy m’th’rf*cken SH*T! Someone just showed me this at the weekend. This Archangel from like, twelfth heaven or somewhere, has only gone and made the entire history of songwriting and performing look like a three year old’s birthday party at Burger King. Every song and or artist in history even Willie Dixon, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, NWA, Ice Cube, and even Bob Dylan, is officially relegated to class B. As are every actor in history or legend: living or dead, male or female. We all are now defunct. It’s time to hit the welfare office: shoulda had that ‘thing to fall back on’ like Brian May did. We’re f*cked. Thanks be to God.”
Welcome to the wonderful world of Ren!!! Not only is he a great artist with all the talent that shouldn't be gifted to a single human, he has a heart of gold! Renegades are the greatest community on the internet, and you'll quickly be flooded with our love if you continue on your Ren journey! He has music in all genres for any mood you're in! Rap, singing, multiple instruments, messages about hard topics and humanity in general... it's a deep rabbit hole, but we're always happy to accept new appreciation! ENJOY THE RIDE!
100%! Us Renegade are kind natured folks who support any reactors who make the smart choice to react to Ren's wonderful, extensive and varied catalogue of work- he's dabbled in quite a few genres and nailed every one of them in my humble ( if ever so slightly biased ), opinion. Enjoy your journey down the Ren aRabbithole- it's a trip..😊
I agree 100% - subbed to relish in your journey - another commented above perfectly - Ren will “recalibrate” your brain (and I’ll add heart & soul to that statement) ❤
To get an idea of Ren's singing in one track, Ren's Back on 74/Message in a Bottle Retake is a great one. It's his composition over lyrics from 2 songs except the middle part that's all his own. Ren produces and mixes almost every track of his. His post production is great too. A good portion of his videos are one shots.
I see the gang's already here. Renegades are fierce creatures and we do run in packs. The good news is you can feed us infinite Ren reactions, every track is worth it.
The lights only flicker while his darker personality is in control, and also at the end when he's finally learned to combine the two to create his whole personality.
Welcome to the world of Ren!! Lol Buckle up... his rabbit hole is Deep!!! Highly Recommend his Jenny and Screech Trilogy next... the 13 minute video has all 3 short stories, in the correct order! Trust me... ya wanna see it!!
You want to hear Rens singing ability? Watch Ren X Chinchilla "Chalk outlines" A brilliant duo that you wont regret watching. Its my second favorite behind this one.
Grear Reaction, thanks. When you said you thought he might play something baroque next, I immediately thought, no that'll be in the 'Tales' trilogy (Jenny/Screech/Violet's). Rens got it ALL covered 😊
Oh my Gosh! I love when people put Bowie and Ren together in a sentence. Both were/are so talented and innovative and creative-minded. I'm a huge Bowie fan and have never said an artist reaches Bowie, or for that matter, Ozzy, status. Ren does that and more. 4:15
@kevingood4644 I've been wanting to! Been trying to catch up on artists I've been seeing here on TH-cam! Will do, and thanks for the suggestion! I had gotten stuck in my music tastes for awhile until recently!

She's not particularly original, creative or innovative though and doesn't come close to the range and depth of talent that Ren possesses. Ren can do it all and does it all brilliantly and his songwriting is world-class!
Great reaction to my favorite artist. I'm flying to the UK in 3 weeks to see Ren's first solo performance in 4 years playing at Secret Garden Party Festival! Please watch The Tale of Jenny and Screech next (make sure you do the full version with Violets Tale included).
Tremendous respect for your first-time view of Ren. It reminds me also of the awe I felt the first time ever viewing this. He is a once-in-a-lifetime artist.
If you like his singing voice, you should check out his duets with Chinchilla (How to be Me and Chalk Outlines) She is also an amazing talent and the refer to one another as musical siblings
Don't know why i am so late here. Usually i am one of the first and i share the video to the Ren Rabbit Hole Fan Club. 16,000 strong. I subbed on the strength of your intelligent ,sensitive reaction.i will post the share and can't wait for more. Might as well do the Tales trilogy. Enjoy! ❤
New sub here from Arizona, I'm here for any and all Ren reactions. As a 54 year old music lover my whole life, Ren has reconfigured my mind for the better and REN-EWED my heart & soul by making me really hear music for the 1st time in my life! Thank you for the great reaction! 😊 what an amazing journey awaits you!
Take a rope this hole is very deep. I would suggest the next piece you do is "The tales of Jenny and Screech Full version" It will amaze you. Ren is most brilliant musician I have come across in my 67 years. Subbed
Ren ldefies genre's, makes you laugh, cry and really deep think. Always though he remembers a motto that ha said stuck with him... a rising tide lifts all ships.
Loved your comparisons. Although Ren is a very unique artist with a wide knowledge of music from all eras and styles He just loves music His life experiences have also impacted his work 7 years with undiagnosed Lyme disease attacking his body and brain leaving other conditions due to the damage. A medical community that often told him he was imagining the illness! Friends who passed away too young All mixed together with a determination to get back to creativity that he never completely abandoned A back catalogue of music over 230 pieces have lost count. Its quite a journey of discovery He also has a lot of very loyal and enthusiastic fans and a team of friends as his assistance as an independent artist
Recommend Back on 74 message in a bottle retake and Fred again mash up for singing Also The Big Push and Sam Thompkins Or chinchilla collaborations for the vocals
I have watched this Masterpiece hundreds of times, literally. And at some points, I *still* get goosebumps, as if i was watching it through your eyes and ears as a first experience. So thank you for your thoughtful and heartfelt reaction! I hope you do more of this genius, this once in a generation artist.
What a nice soothing and intelligent reactor. Love the knowledge you gave of this theater masterpiece. Ren is special, he has been a very sick boi since the age of 19. He is now 34 and starting to climb out of his nightmare. He just finished 18 months of medical treatment to help his stamina amongst many other issues he has. He is ready to jump back into music full-time without being so sick all the time. The fans over the last few years are patiently waiting for another new album to drop along with his collabs. Any day drop on the new collabs. Subbed, thank you.
@ige-individualgroupeffort-kenl same here, I've watched THOUSANDS of Ren reactions.... Top tier my friend top tier! ❤ hang on tight and have a long rope like someone said. 😂❤
Best Hi Ren reaction I have seen in a long time. Thank you for your excellent thoughts and technical knowledge. Oh, and welcome to the RENaissance of music.
He is unique. You said it. The more you see Ren and the people he collaborates with the more you want to see more. I think he is a very special person. There is so much more to see. Enjoy!
I found this song when I was in a great deal of personal pain and this broke me but in a good way. I wept cathartically as I watched and rewatched it for a few days, picking up on new nuances. It helped me move out of that particular depressive episode. I’m so grateful to him and I know a lot of people felt similarly. Just keep in mind that for all the loving fans, you’re going to be dealing with a lot of the crazy renegades in your threads who aren’t the easiest to love.
@@ige-individualgroupeffort-kenlwise comment. As Renegades we have a higher tolerance than most groups for these "off balance " at the moment. So does Ren. He speaks for those suffering from chronic illness, mental and physical. I'm sorry if we overwhelm you, but Ren represents a new way of thinking about a lot of things, including community and acceptance. The 1 million Subsciber video is simple to get an idea. I realky appreciated your reaction.
Welcome to the Ren-everse😂. I think you're going to enjoy the journey of discovery you are about to embark upon. Ren is the most diverse and multi talented artist I've ever seen and I can promise you this. No matter what genre you like, Ren has something for you. Reggae, Rap, blues, pop, and a term you will come to learn, BARDCORE. which is when Ren turns into a minstrel Shakespeare genius 😂

So much talent he is self taught in all of it Guitar/piano/drums etc. Hoping for you to become a Renegade like many of us have over the last couple yrs. Loved your thoughtful reaction Cheers from Canada🖤🖤🖤
Welcome to the eclectic world of Ren! It’s only just begun for you. There is so much for you to still see. He introduced us to another artist from the UK and her name is Chinchilla. They’ve done a few songs together and their live magic. Keep digging into this hole. You won’t be disappointed! - Kristin
I always wondered what it would feel like to be around and to experience a performance by Shakespeare or another of the true greats, and now I’ve found Ren and his music, I think I know. Sounds like hyperbole, but it really isn’t. Ren is also a magnet to other great artists that he’s worked with; like Chinchilla, the guys in the band “The Big Push” and Sam Tompkins.
Oh you are about to fall down the Ren rabbit hole? I'm here for that! Wave goodbye to months of your life as you discover just how huge his music catalog is, and can't get over how difficult it is to find something in his catalog that you don't like. A statistical improbability and yet..... You'll likely be begged to do the tales of Jenny and Screech (full). And i would concur, you *need* to see them.
🔥🔥🔥 .Welcome to the Renaissance! Ren is my favourite artist of all time. I say artist because he is a multifaceted diamond! From singing (all styles) to rapping (bars/flows/schemes for days), Bardcore (story telling) beatbox, makes his own beats, scatting and a multi instrumentalist (guitars, bass, drums, melodica and more). On top of that he is the most beautiful human being inside and out who has been through and continues to go through absolute hell. Ren is 33 from Anglesey, Wales originally but spent most his adult life in Brighton, England. He has been very ill for years, at one point being completely bed ridden. He was misdiagnosed for years, being told he was bipolar, had M.E and more and was prescribed medications that made him worse and ended up in psychosis. It turns out Ren had Lyme disease which has caused havoc on his body. He’s been living in Calgary, Canada all year receiving intense medical treatment for his brain damage and mast cell activation disorder amongst other things that were caused by the Lyme disease. He started off making beats at 12 and selling CDs then moved on to busking. He was part of a band called Trick The Fox and was signed to Sony but they didn’t renew the contract after his health deteriorated. He then started The Big Push. They went on hiatus the end of last year after 5 years partly due to his move to Canada and also because the other members are also soloists and were moving around too. I have a list of songs to check out of all styles. Being a big Ren fan (Renegade), I've seen many reactions to this and wasn't planning on watching another one tonight. Your thumbnail drew me in and I'm so happy that it did. You sir are one of the best reactors I've seen so far. Love your sincerity, side notes, and brilliant observations that were thought provoking. Your wicked sense of humor is also a plus. I saw some of that in your responses to the comments. Thank you! Sending love from Chicago and subbing! Looking forward to more reactions.
All of that was very kind and I appreciate your sentiments. I have to really watch my humor though because it tends to be very sarcastic, politically incorrect, and dark at times. Doesn't always translate when written and some people don't realize I'm joking.
@@ige-individualgroupeffort-kenl I understand that not all people get sarcasm through the written word. I've also had issues with that. Perhaps we need a sarcasm font. lol Our humor is very similar so that is another reason I connected to you. Thanks for your response!
Yes... he's an Awesome singer too! Suggest Backnon 74/Message in a Bottle, Chaulk Outlines, and I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop at least! PS ... all live shows!
Great reaction sir! New sub here. Just as a little side note, this was also shot as a one take. So it's actually a live performance. And also, when it comes to Ren's videos, he NEVER hits reactors with copyright issues. I would highly recommend watching some of his interviews, he really opens up alot about a lot of things.
I really enjoyed your reaction. Seeing that you yourself are a artist/musician I'm sure you are very familiar with what this video showcases - the self doubt, self worth that we all struggle and fight within ourselves.
I hate the self doubt in the worth of your own creations because they rarely live up to the way we envision them in our heads. That being said, when those visions are met or exceeded in the final product, that makes it all worth it. Hopefully Ren has more of those cathartic moments than he does the not good enough ones.
Welcome to the journey of Ren. This video is just the tip of the iceberg. You will continue to be impressed and never disappointed. -Thanks for sharing your reaction, enjoyed your musical/theatrical insights.
I prefer undiminished triplets because they are obviously better than ones that have been diminished. 😜. That's just science. Obviously I am just kidding and know what you're saying. He is a master and a phenomenal guitar player especially considering him being self taught even if he was learning from TH-cam..
Here from your Band-Maid 'Hate?' Reaction. I was almost excusively obssessed with them through covid until 'Hi Ren' started popping up via common reacters...and I was thrilled and proud to find a new great British artist!! I've always been into humble, inspirational artists who truly exel at what they do. Look forward to your descent down the Ren rabbit hole and also the B-M pigeon hole...both have greased sides/ no escape 😁👌
Really enjoyed your reaction despite having watched literally hundreds of reactions to "Hi Ren". There's so much more to come so will enjoy watching you fall down the very deep Ren rabbit hole.
Excellent analysis. The journey through the magical world of Ren has only just begun. It is a brilliant letter of introduction from this great multifaceted musician who is difficult to pigeonhole; how will you buy yourself if you continue the fascinating journey through his music. I can only promise you honesty and good music. If there is something to highlight it is his narration, his way of expressing his art crudely, with incredible metaphors; although you will also see his fun side in the music. Anyway! Have a good trip! I will accompany you as far as you go... I subscribe.
Really nice reaction mate , you really “really” get what I wanted from a reactor ( you just saw him turning his head first time and started smiling 😂) that’s ren my friend , hope that u go down the rabbit hole . New subscriber from Brasil 🇧🇷 keep it up the good work 🔥
....and this is why my gut reaction comment to this was...."One of the greatest pieces of art any human has ever created" I'll stand by that comment till I die.
This was great, and I hope to see more Ren reactions from you. It’s nice to hear from folks who have backgrounds in things like music, video production and directing, mental health care etc. I feel like it helps me learn something new whenever I I watch a reaction. For example, I don’t play guitar and I got to learn about “thumb peddling” (12:47) today! 🎸 REN’s music really is something special. Thanks for your reaction!
The best reactors can hope for is that they bring something new to the table whether it is knowledge, a feeling or nostalgia of sharing a first listen that you can never experience again unless vicariously. Thanks for watching.
Loved your reaction and comparisons. Welcome to the Ren reactions universe, so nice to have your contribution. The first of many I hope! If you dig deep through Ren’s catalogue you’ll realise just how diverse and unique a person Ren is; but most importantly how talented, genuinely caring, methodically creative and meticulously persistent in trying to seek perfection he is too.
Sorry I'm so late to welcome you, Western Australia is almost another planet. For me a little over 18months since discovering him. It was life changing, I won't go into too much detail. I'll tell another story of that first day. I watched again on a TV instead of my phone. I clicked on two other videos at random to confirm what I suspected, I'm sure Chalk Outlines was one. I had a dream come true seeing Bowie in my home town in 2004, and managed to be in the front row. Since the beginning of 2000s a couple of close friends and I had been on lookout for the next potential Bowie. As each year passed, the idea of finding anyone comparable in my lifetime was becoming more and more unlikely. There were some that all three of us like a few tracks, but now often than not never more than two of us could agree on any single artist. At Bowie's passing in 2016 it became especially heartbreaking. I hoped it was just is getting older, not having our finger on the pulse. But all of us kept in touch with independent music in various ways, and with younger musicians and artists who would introduce us to emerging music. Discovering this video (my first from Ren) and watching a tiny bit more content, i shared him with my friends. The two of that group that had been with me as 1999 became 2000, hoping to find our next Bowie... well, we agreed. I didn't find him from the get-go, but so glad I did find him before he was huge. It made me feel validated that I wasn't losing connection to music, I needed the right artist. And he introduced me to so many inspiring talented artists. Haven't regretted one day of discovering his music. It reconnected me with my emotions, reconnected me with music, reconnected me with old friends, and helped me make new ones (in real life!) Inspired my art and creativity in a wonderful way. I hope you enjoy him
I had a real connection with Bowie way back and he was a real inspiration to me as well and actually changed the way I approached writing lyrics and music. I do think Ren could be that influential over time. It's funny that your last line "It reconnected me with my emotions, reconnected me with music, reconnected me with old friends, and helped me make new ones (in real life!) Inspired my art and creativity in a wonderful way", is exactly what happened to me a few years ago with The Warning. Becoming part of that community as well as the music and the girls got me back to drawing and painting after 30 years and I taught myself video editing, stated doing music covers and posting them as well as my own music, and learned sculpture because of their inspiration. I can see the Ren community being just as nurturing and Ren inspiring that as well.
@@ige-individualgroupeffort-kenl music is so fricking important; the way it can drive real change, both internal and external, and the right music at the right moment can change societies. But also, I like what I like because it's"taxtile" Thanks for the reminder to include more of The Warning in my rotation, btw. Deep appreciation
Ren and his videographer Samuel Perry-Falvey have been friends since they were teens, though Ren is several years older. Money Game 1 is their first one shot video. It took 183 takes to get it right. Money Game 3, just done last year has won multiple awards.
Great reaction! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.😊 It will take a little while before you understand Ren, his musical lyrical genius is accompanied with the intelligent, thought provoking heartfelt genuine man that he is. He shines like a precious independent diamond in a world of controlled content. If you love the movie aspect of REN’S repertoire there is so much for you to explore. Enjoy the ride. ❤❤❤
My son is bi-polar and is a genius. A very high IQ, he is now 44 years old and a tutor, helping young students get through school and then on to college. He teaches, math - all forms - sciences etc. He was in gifted class by the 2nd grade. He is very hard to argue with at times. LOL I do think even without acknowledgement by Ren himself, he may also be extremely gifted in many ways. He has had lots of time when bed bound to do some study into many topics and subjects. His vocabulary is amazing
The lights flicker when his disturbed persona is speaking.... The lights are stable when his... stable... persona is speaking. Same for the guitar playing.
OMG, that dude from Oingo Boingo is actually the same Danny Elfman who scored Tim Burton’s movies. Didn’t know that…🤔 Sort of makes sense (weirdly). Thnx for that little nugget of info! (I have a thing for geeky, totally useless useless but imo super interesting facts, but I’ll try not to get too nerdy about it 😅) Anyway, great reaction! Normally I’d leave you with a suggestion of one of my fav Ren songs for a follow-up reaction, but to stay with Oingo Boingo/Danny Elfman (+Tim Burton) vibe I.m going a bit out of the box here and suggest a lesser known gem from Ren titled ‘Children of the Moon’ (atypical Ren, but loads of fun: weird ska tunes in a cool dark but fun horror music video) Thanks again, great reaction! 🙏✌️
Thanks for that suggestion. I'll put it on the list. As far as Danny Elfman, his music/lyrics/arrangement for Nightmare before Christmas is phenomenal and he has a video called Happy that is just weird and creepy.
Thnx for the tip, I’ll check it out for sure! 😀 (+ just an extra comment for the algo here as well: your reaction doesn’t deserve to go so unnoticed: I would’ve expected at least 5 times the views and likes here from Ren fans arriving here in drones… still expect Renegades to discover this vid in the near future though and flood the comment section with love and requests, for now a little nudge to help the algorithm is the least I can do…) Hope to see you return to Ren soon. First thing I’ll be doing now tho, will be listening and probably some Happy tripping to that Elfman suggestion… 😊 🎵 ✨
He's not schizpphrenic, nor does he suffer from bi-polar and he's never suffered from any split personality disorders. The song makes clear and Ren himself has said that it's about the human condition generally. Chronic illness and mental illness are referenced because he's telling it through the lens of his own experience and those things, along with music, have dominated his life but it's not specifically. It's about the human experience. It's also about how accepting that darkness is part of existence, part of life, part of us. It's not something that can be banished and it's a frustrating waste of time and effort trying to do so. Besides which, our encounters with the dark help to shape who we are, often for the better. Once this simple but unpalatable truth is understood, life becomes a little easier and the dark becomes a little easier to deal with and to mitigate, generally speaking.
"It was never really a battle for me to WIN... it was an eternal dance. And, like a dance, the more rigid I became, the harder it got." Out of ALL the incredibly profound lyrics and messages, I think this particular phrase hit me the hardest, and had the greatest impact on me. Great reaction! Best of luck going forward!
For comparison sake, I'd recommend "The Hunger" next, then "Chalk Outlines" with Chinchilla. Then just keep going down the rabbit hole. I don't know if you know but "Hi Ren" is a live one-take.
Believe it or not, I have been informed of that very fact. You guys have a very strong and dedicated community and I will continue to learn with each new video I am sure.
I also adore the staging/background, illumination, lighting, textures, shadows, colors, and contrasts. Brilliant location choice for recording. Simplistic, yet a statement. ❤️
I see you have started down the Ren roller coaster, I will enjoy watching your other reactions to his songs. Mentioning his voice, Ren can seem to do anything he sets his mind to. He has a band with some busking videos (street performing ) and his I shot the sheriff video and his video with Sam, the guy that films for ren a lot, titled Ren and Sam Tompkins Earned it/ Mans world/ and Falling really shows off his abilities to sing in a variety of ways. Great video.
Another fun fact, this is a one shot. He is live, you can see the mic on him and the guitar is live. They did it 4 times to get the take they wanted, but there is no editing, just a 3 camera setup and the video is a single take.
When you have the time and you haven't seen them yet, you should check out his other page Renmakesstuff and watch the 8 Chapters he did on his years of his illness. The song Troubles is a summary of it.
Welcome to the world of Ren ,quite excited for you because I know whats about to happen ,you're about to start one of the best musical journeys you'll ever experience
Ren's been struggling with Lyme disease for almost 17 years with no luck. (He met a stamcell ANGEL in LA (doctor) with a generous glove (his newest song "TROUBLE" who saved his life.) Misdiagnosed, mistreated with a tonnes of wrong medicine witch caused damage to his brain 🧠 also. He's still in Canada Calgary for treatment. By the way, the flickering of the light is his dark side and wise versa. 👍
A lot of people reacting to this song have commented on the flickering lights in the background being a nice touch but I have yet to hear one mention that they only flicker when he's voicing his inner demon, otherwise they're as steady as you'd expect a working light to be. Brilliant.
Congratulations on discovering Ren! I’m jealous of you getting to take the crazy ride through his catalog for the first time. The last artist that I got this excited about was Dave Mathews in the mid nineties…. Ren is freaking special…. I’m a former musician having played my first instrument at 6 and I switched instruments a few times but music means the world to me. I’m handicapped now and just can’t play anything anymore and trying causes physical pain and emotional heartbreak. Do as you wish…. But I’d advise you to just start with the oldest videos first and he has many cool collaborations and always has people working with him who are new to me(as an American), and just phenomenal musicians. The big push stuff is probably my favorites, but I’ve enjoyed pretty much everything I’ve seen from him and it’s taken me about a year to get through the whole catalog. Enjoy the ride, it’s phenomenal!!❤
Great reaction! I'm here for more Ren. He has a large catalog of his own and he was also in two bands, The Big Push. and Trick The Fox when he was younger.
Had a great time. We'll at least see us at the Jenny and Screech Trilogy reaction. I strongly suspect it to leave you speechless and amazed. A Masterpiece in storytelling and deliverance on Rens part and Sams skills with the camera. Absolutely brilliant in every way.
Great reaction. Welcome to the rabbit hole. Because of his voice try out „I shot the sheriff „ played with his band the big push. Or if you like stories try „the tale of Jenny and screech“ That will blow your mind
Welcome to your Ren journey. I would suggest Money Game 1,2,3, Sui*ide and Chalk outlines live with Chinchilla. He's a once in a lifetime artist, and I'm glad you are experiencing him! Read his story, he's an amazing human for what he has endured.
two old lamps, a wheelchair, a guitar and a genius. together they produce the most important video of our lifetime.
And only 4 takes, not even an hour of filming time on location. Imagine what he could have produced with unlimited time...
So true. It shows that excellence does not need much.
No lies told.
Stages of this masterpiece:
- Nice scene, but creepy
- Oh cool guitar play
- Wait, is this live? He’s plugged in?!
- Uhm what’s going on here??? Creepy scene, then classic guitar, then high pitch kind of opera singing, not what I expected!
- Now he’s rapping?! Sounds a bit like Eminem
- Oh, he’s talking to himself and his mental health?
- What the f is happening now??!! I need a break! Make it Stop!!!
- There is HOPE after all, YES!!! You go man!
- Now he’s singing??!! He CAN sing, oh my god what the hell!
- Ooo oooo oooo oooo
- Wow!!!
- Ahh that’s his story
- Stunned Silence. I need a minute
- Summary- A masterpiece
Perfect breakdown/synopsis
Also summarised as..
"I didn't expect that"
"I didn't expect that"
"I didn't expect that"
"I didn't expect that."
Repeat until end.
"Wow!"
They all have the stunned silence at the end. Its my favourite part the overwhelming emotion you just been served
The lights only flash on the negative version of REN. It happens in popular media when a demon or evil spirit is around. As an edit, it is why the lights start flashing near the end because it is still there, it is just in the back of him waiting for a rebirth.
Is that why my lights are always flashing?😁😒👹
OK, biased Renegade - got your first spot! Almost everyone goes right to "serious" mental illness, then realize and relax as they see it's the angel and devil on our shoulders. :) Ren has a fairly big catalog for his time recording. I was a Beatles/Stones, then Prince fan (and everything in-between), and Ren is the first real ray of light in decades.
Same for me too. A young Bowie got me to subscribe for more Ren. ❤
i feel the same,(Stones nut here) love his busking doing the 'old bands' tunes, Ren is the first artist in years thats finally totally unique and ohh soo talented!!, as always we wish him the best of health and its like christmas every single time he drops a new release
@@JoH4LH44same here 👍🏽🐷✌🏼
I have an interesting story for you.

I will check that out. Thanks
Absolutely right. The ‘Million Subs’ vid is also beautiful.
Im 62 and this young man is quickly becoming the artist of my lifetime 🇬🇧😊
I’m up there in age also and agree. Maybe something to that since we have a lot of experience in appreciation of music.

Ren is the Greatest Artist and Musician alive. Period. Enjoy this truly special man who will recalibrate you're whole brain.
"one of the most unique songwriters and storytellers I've seen in recent times" (a bit more equivocal than you had it, but still close to the mark)... cool!
@@DavidLindesRussell Crowe also gave him a shout out recently & Sinead O'Connor posted about him before her very sad passing
@@fionaashton1738 I think I remember seeing the Sinead thing. That was cool. And yes, sad to see her gone. 😢
@@Colleen_OH interesting! Thanks.
You have now experienced the genius that is Ren. Everything matters. Lyrics, melody, voice, visual arts, symbolism, metaphor. There’s so much to this guy.
One-take!!! 9 minutes. 3 stationary cameras!!! Genius
Always nice to find a new thoughtful and insightful reaction to Hi Ren. How fitting that a RENaissance man has discovered REN (and RENegades).😊
Sinéad O'Connor discovered Ren in May 2022, just two months before she died.
I've watched 1000's of people reacting to Ren for the first time and it never gets old. Your was especially satisfying. Thanks❤❤❤
me too
I agree 100% - subbed to relish in your journey - another commented above perfectly - Ren will “recalibrate” your brain (and I’ll add heart & soul to that statement) ❤
Never gets old!
It's weird isn't it?
@@Tallhandsome77 i can't explain it, lol. 🤷🏻♀️
Good observation. Thanks for the clarification.
Welcome to the world of Ren!! Lol
Buckle up... his rabbit hole is Deep!!!
Hold on man. You’re in for a wild, unique ride. You have only scratched the surface of his singing, guitar and writing. Welcome
Oh my Gosh! I love when people put Bowie and Ren together in a sentence. Both were/are so talented and innovative and creative-minded.
I'm a huge Bowie fan and have never said an artist reaches Bowie, or for that matter, Ozzy, status.
Ren does that and more. 4:15
Check out Angelina Jordan. Vocal musical genius described by some as a modern Mozart.

Ren doesn't copyright strike. He encourages reactors. They (you) are who promoted him and he appreciates it.
He removed the copyright on my video within a couple of days so I won't worry about it anymore.
Absolutely, the duets are amazing. The live videos!
Don't know why i am so late here. Usually i am one of the first and i share the video to the Ren Rabbit Hole Fan Club. 16,000 strong.

I am sure he will affect my music writing the same way Bowie did 40 years ago.
Take a rope this hole is very deep.
I would suggest the next piece you do is "The tales of Jenny and Screech Full version"
It will amaze you. Ren is most brilliant musician I have come across in my 67 years.

Wait until you see Ren and Chinchilla sing together.
Chalk Outlines & How To Be Me are 2 of the greatest duets I’ve ever heard.
Ren ldefies genre's, makes you laugh, cry and really deep think. Always though he remembers a motto that ha said stuck with him... a rising tide lifts all ships.
Loved your comparisons.
Although Ren is a very unique artist with a wide knowledge of music from all eras and styles
He just loves music
His life experiences have also impacted his work
7 years with undiagnosed Lyme disease attacking his body and brain leaving other conditions due to the damage.
A medical community that often told him he was imagining the illness!
Friends who passed away too young
All mixed together with a determination to get back to creativity that he never completely abandoned
A back catalogue of music over 230 pieces have lost count.
Its quite a journey of discovery
He also has a lot of very loyal and enthusiastic fans and a team of friends as his assistance as an independent artist
Recommend Back on 74 message in a bottle retake and
Fred again mash up for singing
Also The Big Push and Sam Thompkins
Or chinchilla collaborations for the vocals
Layers! The deeper you look the more you find with Ren ❤

Thank you for your kind comment. I will do my best to make your sub worth it.

He is unique. You said it. The more you see Ren and the people he collaborates with the more you want to see more. I think he is a very special person. There is so much more to see. Enjoy!
Welcome to the Ren rabbit hole! Enjoy the ride. You've come across the artist of our generation
You can't be a reactor of any person or band and not get the crazies. It's built in.

Welcome to the Ren-everse😂. I think you're going to enjoy the journey of discovery you are about to embark upon.
And soon he’s gonna have a song with the amazing PROF!!!
What a fantastic reaction. I subscribed. Ren is incredible.
9:58 Every time I hear him say "I Am Temptation...".... chills! 🥶 the tone in which he says that phrase is so eerie 😬
I get the chills every time he says “Some people know me as the voice you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope”.
@Butterflyandhearts95 I love that line too 🥰
🔥🔥🔥
.Welcome to the Renaissance!
Obviously this is no where near everything but gives you places to start. 🖤
Ren songs in best order to watch them (although there isn’t a specific order technically, this is a good way to go) - I still need to add the latest drops

I know this is just a paste in but , in case you don't already know, I have a Ren Playlist of 14 reactions I have already done.
@@ige-individualgroupeffort-kenl yep Iv been watching them today ☺️ just thought I would paste my usual encyclopaedia 😉❤️
Great reaction.Try his tales of Jenny and Screech next its 3 tales at 13 minutes. You will be astonished.
Dude, fantastic reaction and analysis. Could tell you enjoyed every second of this. Subbed and eagerly awaiting more. Excellent work. 👍
He's fucking brilliant. It doesn't matter how many times I watch this I still get chills.
diminished triplets are amazing, especially good when ren works that fretboard ❤❤
I prefer undiminished triplets because they are obviously better than ones that have been diminished. 😜. That's just science. Obviously I am just kidding and know what you're saying. He is a master and a phenomenal guitar player especially considering him being self taught even if he was learning from TH-cam..
@@ige-individualgroupeffort-kenl 🤣 sorry ,I meant triplicates, if I did have triplets I'd definitely need the noise to diminish 🤣
Welcome to the wonderful world of ren, where you can always expect the unexpected 😊 hope to see you fall down this rabbit hole, its a long way down 😂💜💜
Can't wait!
Waaaaaaaaaaaaay doooooowwwwwwwwnnnn❤😮
For more Baroque guitar, you may like The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full 13-minute version). Three connected tales done live. Nice reaction.
Enjiyed your reaction and analysis! Thank you! Good luck with your projects!
Really nice reaction mate , you really “really” get what I wanted from a reactor ( you just saw him turning his head first time and started smiling 😂) that’s ren my friend , hope that u go down the rabbit hole . New subscriber from Brasil 🇧🇷 keep it up the good work 🔥
Posted Jenny and Screetch and will have Back to 74/Message in a Bottle up tomorrow. Then starting on Money Game 1,2 and 3.
You will LOVE the Tale of Jenny and Screech which is in 3 parts (all need to be watched together) and like this, is live one takes. ❤
....and this is why my gut reaction comment to this was...."One of the greatest pieces of art any human has ever created" I'll stand by that comment till I die.
REN’s music really is something special. Thanks for your reaction!
The best reactors can hope for is that they bring something new to the table whether it is knowledge, a feeling or nostalgia of sharing a first listen that you can never experience again unless vicariously. Thanks for watching.
Can't wait to see your next Ren reaction! Try Back on 74. Also power. Different sides to Ren. Definitely subbing for Ren.
Great reaction! Ren is unique in the actual sense of that word. Plan to react to more Ren?? Hope you like surprises.
Most definitely!
Loved your reaction and comparisons. Welcome to the Ren reactions universe, so nice to have your contribution. The first of many I hope! If you dig deep through Ren’s catalogue you’ll realise just how diverse and unique a person Ren is; but most importantly how talented, genuinely caring, methodically creative and meticulously persistent in trying to seek perfection he is too.
ty ken that was a great reaction. like your use of writen thoughts to fill in the blanks. very creatively done.
Yes very nice
But also, I like what I like because it's"taxtile"
Thanks for the reminder to include more of The Warning in my rotation, btw. Deep appreciation
Welcome to the Ren-aissance! You're in for a fantastic ride!
Didn’t know that…🤔
Sort of makes sense (weirdly). Thnx for that little nugget of info! (I have a thing for geeky, totally useless useless but imo super interesting facts, but I’ll try not to get too nerdy about it 😅)
Anyway, great reaction! Normally I’d leave you with a suggestion of one of my fav Ren songs for a follow-up reaction, but to stay with Oingo Boingo/Danny Elfman (+Tim Burton) vibe I.m going a bit out of the box here and suggest a lesser known gem from Ren titled ‘Children of the Moon’ (atypical Ren, but loads of fun: weird ska tunes in a cool dark but fun horror music video)
Thanks again, great reaction!
(+ just an extra comment for the algo here as well: your reaction doesn’t deserve to go so unnoticed: I would’ve expected at least 5 times the views and likes here from Ren fans arriving here in drones…
still expect Renegades to discover this vid in the near future though and flood the comment section with love and requests, for now a little nudge to help the algorithm is the least I can do…)
Hope to see you return to Ren soon. First thing I’ll be doing now tho, will be listening and probably some Happy tripping to that Elfman suggestion… 😊 🎵 ✨
I highly recommend you watch "Chalk Outlines live" with Chinchilla. It's probably the best example of his vocal range
I have a Ren Playlist if you go to my channel
It's certainly amazing what you can get with just a Ren, guitar and a camera 🤯
Even a Ren without guitar is amazing 😂 ❤
I hear you. But it seems like saying "just" a Ren is like saying "just" a Rembrandt.
Excellent reaction!! Subbed for more! Welcome to the Ren journey!
Ren plays blue notes all over the place on this song and its just incredible and honestly, pretty brave.
Another fun fact, this is a one shot. He is live, you can see the mic on him and the guitar is live. They did it 4 times to get the take they wanted, but there is no editing, just a 3 camera setup and the video is a single take.
He is an impressive individual.
Thanks for having us, and welcome to you too.
The part where he stands up always hits me
Ren's been struggling with Lyme disease for almost 17 years with no luck.
Brilliant.
Welcome to the rabbit hole of ren! There's nothing he can't or hasn't done!
It would be worth making a cover for a symphony orchestra and having it performed by the Berlin Philharmonic
Or if you like stories try „the tale of Jenny and screech“
That will blow your mind
Posted Jenny and Screetch a few hours ago
Welcome to your Ren journey. I would suggest Money Game 1,2,3, Sui*ide and Chalk outlines live with Chinchilla. He's a once in a lifetime artist, and I'm glad you are experiencing him! Read his story, he's an amazing human for what he has endured.
