It’s almost like Chinchilla is Ren’s shadow & puppet master at the same time. She echoes but also pulls him around in the emotional echo chamber. Whether they think of these things or not is almost irrelevant as it’s so organic. These two together are like an irresistible punch in the gut.

After watching him work out this song on IG and seeing him cry through most of the versions, I can almost guarantee that hearing it come together with Chinchilla helped with the fry effect. I would never be able to sing this live. My throat closes just singing along with them. This song is the best description of how it feels to lose someone to suicide. My nephew gave up the fight 3 yrs ago and you do forget how to be you, because there is a gapping hole and no way to fill it.

I've come to think of a nice analogy recently. Ren is one of those artistic masterpieces which underwent total restoration. The layers of veneer and the hardened shell of years of varnish is stripped back. Colour and craft *exactly* how the painter envisioned them, but devastatingly vulnerable. Even his most sincere and dynamic raps have this raw, exposed quality which I've not heard often in my life.

Chris, thank you for your passion and clarity on this fabulous live version of How to Be Me. This song is so incredibly powerful. I can’t wait for more of the US population to discover Ren and Chinchilla. The live music and Ren’s one takes hopefully will inspire more appreciation for authentic musicians. The folks in the trenches who resist the mind numbing “commercial music offerings.” Commercial music here in the States lacks any emotion and authenticity, IMHO. I will NEVER pay for streaming services. I prefer to purchase and make playlists of artists work that I admire. I don’t need an algorithm to push me towards any other content. Emmylou Harris commented on the loss of intimacy and connection in music in her intro to her song “Riding Alone” on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s Album, Will the Circle Be Unbroken. She said, (paraphrasing from memory here), “We've lost the living room. The living room has gone out of the music, but today I feel like we got it back." That album was filled with jam sessions and live takes and not hyper produced. She saw the writing on the wall.

Chris, this was a truly WONDERFUL reaction.
One that I have learned, watching and experiencing Ren's music in ANY form.
EVERYTHING, and I truly mean everything is done by design.
He puts so much CARE and EMOTIONS into every single track.
Without it, it would be a GOOD song.
With it, it's a masterpiece that people FEEL.
One that they are VESTED in.
A journey, we so EAGERLY go on WITH him.
Chinchilla, has an AMAZING voice and THE perfect compliment to him.
But, it's their connection that makes their duets something entirely MORE special.
His last phrase, was delivered with the PERFECT amount of emotion AND timing.
So much so, we end the song EXACTLY where HE wants us to be.
    Extraordinarily done.
More than that, but I can't think of a BIGGER word.
Please, oh please continue down this path.
He has a MASSIVE amount of music out there.
    Thank you for this.
Your reactions are done with the UTMOST care and RESPECT.
I applaud you, for that and much more.

I feel like it's so common in duets that either the singers seem to mostly compete or one ends up the backup singer or they just sing different sections, it's rare that you get true harmony and give and take but I think this song could be used as the gold standard for how to do this in such a natural way.

This is more of a therapy session than a song. I mean, if you write a song where you try to get into the headspace of your friend on their last fatal night and then choose to perform it on the (i think it is a bridge) where they actually took their own life, then you are doing it for the ritual of it. You do it for closure. And it shows in the emotions.

I always LOVE watching your reaction video's Chris. Your enthusiasm is so addictive and your break down of what is actually going on vocally is incredibly educational. Such passion for your craft is impossible to fake. You are so attentive to every single nuance. The most wonderful thing about you, though, as a vocal coach is ; even though you explain techniques, your focus seems to be more about expression of the self through the medium of singing, rather than simply striving for a technically wonderful vocal. The emotion HAS to be as important as anything when we are critiquing that which is basically a form of communication. This is the reason why I, personally, have always gravitated to the singer who can convince me he / she means every word, as opposed to someone who merely has a beautiful voice. When we are graced with the two elements in total unity, our very souls are touched so deeply. 🙏 Thank you Chris x

I am SO much #2 in this 7:00. I have a baritone voice but can hit weirdly high notes, but I can't do them without making those transition "sounds."

I love her “jah” note on Halelujah; it feels like a flat when I’m expecting a nice harmony on the note. But then the third time she sings it, she adds an extra note that goes up before settling on the “jah,” and it’s like it explains it: oh, that’s why you were going there and avoiding resolution…you were just delaying it. :) Thanks for this detailed vocal review of my favorite Ren song. I heard it the first time and was like “this is superlative, isn’t it? What am I missing here?”

GREAT reaction! The best I’ve seen (by far) to this song. You reacted almost exactly the same way as I did at the “mmmm…….” parts; you felt it as much as I did. Such a beautiful song; I’m so happy you’ve reacted to this. Also happy that you enjoyed it as much as you clearly did. I think it’s my favourite Ren song. Chinchilla is stunning, too! I could listen to her sing forever and not get tired.

I absolutely love your channel. I truly have the upmost respect and faith in you as a human being for this reason. Your channel and brand had been based primarily on vocals through song yet you continue to use your platform to celibrate Ren's rap and allow it to shine just as bright as a power ballad and always make it a point to showcase his incredible talent. The world needs more positivity and people like you. He has become important to all of us and seeing large platforms giving his art the love it deserves is beautiful. ❤

I love your Mad Scientist energy. I can only imagine that would be what I would be like, if I tried to teach anything. Maybe with more jumping out of my chair and laughing maniacally. You get so excited and can't contain it, and I feel that.
