  • Staying aboard the Zambezi Queen Luxury houseboat floating down the Chobe River between Botswana and Namibia is one of the coolest experiences you can have while traveling through Southern Africa. Floating out in the wild with hippos as your wake up call and elephants as your afternoon entertainment with all of the amenities you could as for at your finger tips. It doesn't get much better than this. The houseboat has 14 rooms a large lounge and dining area serving three meals a day as well as a full service bar, two decks and even a small pool. There are multiple activities available onboard like visiting a local Namibian village, going fishing, taking a land or water game drive and much more. Great for singles, couples and groups it is definitely a great experience for everyone.

Brings back memories from my safari when we floated by on part of a brief 1 hour tour of the river. Was jealous of the view at the time...but now after seeing the interior i'm even more jealous.

It was pretty much out of this world. Paradise in the middle of nowhere :)

Ooo, this looks like such a nice way to cruise down the river and experience the wildlife. Much better than any of the overnight cruises I've been on... ;)

This looks like an awesome adventure. How long were you on the boat and what was the cost?

I was only on it for 2 nights. I wish it was longer! Prices vary but you can find them on their site :)

    This information is very misleading.
I spent 3 nights on that boat and believe me you won’t be cruising on the Chobe River as you’ve imagined, but will spin around the same daily rout for few hours and return to the same docking station for supper.
The Queen has enough tuck boats but only 3 skippers and if you are not happy to squish together with the rest of the VIP guests there are many old books to read available in the chill zone.
Very friendly crew and excellent chef are somehow squashed by stingy management and gave me a feeling of being in the army not on a vacation.
    I won’t be a returning guest.
    Please do your own research.
P.S. The Queen is a Namibian vessel and not allowed in Botswana’s waters so they should fix the address on the website as well!
Wish you real African Experience 🙏🏼

I'm sorry to hear that was your experience. It sounds like things have changed since I travelled with them. On my trip there were no VIP passengers we were all the same.

(Con't) Can some of you world travelers please explain a syntactical property coming up in names of countries in southern Africa: /Z/ambe/z/I. /Z/imbabwe. /Zan/z/ibar. /Z/ambia. Tan/z/ania. Mo/z/ambique. A/z/ania? This must be a feature of the Bantu languages. But just what is the origin of the /z/?

On all high quality means of travel I insist on having the bathroom fitted with not only a toilet but a bidet. It assures one the body is fresh after having done you know what. I've noticed on both the SA Blue Train and the Orient Express this all important hygienic feature is missing. Remember when you're on something beyond a day, the bidet becomes important and especially in tropical climates. I'll pass on the Zambezi Queen.

A bidet is a very european thing. Not every place has them all around the world. I can't say off of the top of my head that I saw any of them in South Africa.

Too bad it's not universally known, especially in high ended modes of travel with close quarters. It's for me the equivalent of flossing, brushing, mouth washing the teeth!
