You let people know who have suffered Covid respiratory problems Mullein totally heals your lungs. My brother in law almost died Oct 2021 and I started him on infused mullein tea. He is almost ready to come off an oxygen tank.
@@integratedwholehealthiniti318 oh wow, yea he is doing quite well. He only uses a tank occasionally but the Covid brought out an asbestos issue so he isn’t 100% due to scar tissue. But he doesn’t walk around with a tank anymore
Yes. SARS-Covid trashed a percentage of my lungs. This is my goal since pulmonologist couldn't offer an aid or Rx. I don't expect a complete repair using mullein, but it seems to make the day go by with less issues. And I heard it can be helpful to ward away new infections/exposures since it's suppose to have antiviral properties. It's just tea. Or a boring smoke if you swing that direction.
If you mix mullein & blueberry leaf tea, it works wonders for allergies. Of course the mullein is a cough suppressant & expectorant & the blueberry leaf tea reduces the inflammation in the sinuses. We use the Celestial Seasoning True Blueberry because we don't have any blueberry bushes yet. It does have a little bit of actual blueberries in it for the blueberry flavor, it's quite a pleasant taste.
I am always excited when a mullien grows in my garden. One showed up late last summer, so I worked around it. This year, my granddaughters have enjoyed watching it get taller than the 3 year old, the almost 6 year old, their 5'10" mother. 😊 It's like a growing garden statue, and I have made sure it gets watered during a long dry month of June. I will be harvesting some leaves for winter cough uses. 👍 I think I have seen small ones nearby. Some get pulled as weeds and fed to the chickens.
Mullein can totally be gathered and harvested in the flowering stage. In fact many commercial tinctures from herbal companies include fresh Mullein Leaf and Flowers. Also the flowers themselves have uses that are similar to the leaves. It would be nice to explain why you choose not to use the flowers, but to say don't harvest at the flowering stage is misleading and incorrect. Not trying to be rude just giving my opinion.
mullein grows in 2 separate years, the first year it will ONLY grow a leafy rosette and never grow a stalk&flower. This is the best year to harvest leaves because all of the plant's energy and nutrients are going directly to them. Year two it will also grow a leafy rosette before about mid-June, where it will then begin growing a long stalk that will flower later, in Year two its best to harvest leaves before stalk growth because again, all of the plants focus is basically there, but when it does flower, its best to find non-Edible uses for the leaves (TP, bandages, wraps, ect) because they no longer contain NEAR as much benefits as the flower cone, flowers specifically, because all the plants effort is going to the stalk&flower to look and be tall, pretty and as potent as it can manage!
that's not completely true, the plant is like a chemical factory and some times flowers have much more potent volatile oils than the leaves...would like to see scientific study on this
Actually, you dont out right say that. Ok, i removed my "special " comment directed towards Tomas, but I will say this.... If you want to see some scientific study, look it up. Not all plants are the same and it IS implied that once the stock begins it sends the energy there, so can u just take Zeros words and think a bit first, not being a jerk, just trying to help. I have not watched the entire video yet, I stopped when i read the reply to zero. However, if its said ( which i havent yet heard) not to use flowers. Look up using mullein for ear aches and infections. Many people yank the whole plant in one piece and turn it upside down as is to dry. It's also believed to have a mild sedative.............. Learn meanings of CONSTITUENTS, this can be very helpful. Many plants will do the same thing, but if u learn the meanings, it will help u know what the plant can do for you. Just my opinion
Lon Oster oh yeah the flowers are really good for teas and rich in their chemical value, I made the mistake of waiting until the whole cone bloomed to flowers so I could harvest em but come to find out the other day, they only bloom a couple flowers at a time! Lesson learned haha, take them as they come. I don't like to spread false knowledge so you can safely heed what I've said about mullein, I do wish I knew more about what exactly it does in your body and what it's good for specifically though! My next learning lesson. Also you're right I didn't directly say that but it's implied when I said when it begins growing a stalk and flowering, it's focus is on it's flowers and it will deliver more chemicals there to produce a good product.
Thank you for this video. I'd always heard that Mullein was a beneficial plant, but never heard what for or how to harvest and use it. Going outside now to harvest some.
they use to take a burn pan put dried mullein in it start it smoking and cover the person and the burn pan with the cover let them breath it, the tea is good to help to keep you from getting bad.
Thank you for your informative channel! I would use both leaves and flowers for my tea and poultices. I would also like to add that when dealing with that nasty cough, warm the tea and add some garlic or onions and honey.
Dee knows what's up 💜 Crush your garlic and let it sit for 5 mins afterwards, while it collects its allicin (sp?). It starts collecting after initial crushing/chopping. At 10 mins it starts to dissipate, but the allicin is the healing properties we need to understand. Adding to tea at the right timing will not damage that process. Max temp is 5 mins at low heat to maintain stability and maximize healing properties.

I love you and respect that you re doing this. Two mentions - 1.) you were stating your concern about unsanitary surfaces at the same time you were touching you nose/face, 2.) you should never dry in the sunlight as it decimates the virility of the plant power to heal. Bonus, to rid you of Yellow-Jackets cut a 16 oz. plastic water bottle at the top 1/4 where it begins to slope upward toward the opening. Turn it into itself so the smaller opening is down into the bottle. Pour 1/4 cup apple juice into the bottle and set away from your back area. In a couple of days you will find the bottle full of dead Y/J's. Continue this until you have no more wasp problem. Nice job on the video!
Mullein cough mixture is one of the best and easy to make. Harvest the yellow flowers and layer them in a Mason jar in alternate layers with sugar and flowers. Fill jar to around 1 inch from the top and sit on windowsill for three weeks aprx. When the sugar has dissolved and a beautiful yellow brown mixture is formed then it's ready. Use a teaspoon full of the indescribable delicious mixture when coughs are present. Another Mullein fact is that many struggle to raise it from the literally thousands of seeds that each plant makes. Only sprinkle them on the surface and never cover them with soil as they will go into hibernation. They can hibernate and keep alive for over 200 years.

Your child sounded pretty bad. If I can be so bold as to give you another alternative solution that I took...choose to emulate if you like...magnolia leaves/flowers in a pot of water, boil, deep breaths with towel over head...every 30 min for first 2 hours. Hourly for first 5-6 hours after that and then maybe every few hours until better. I had borderline pneumonia and about to go to hsp. Magnolia had me considerably better by hour 2 and all good by day 2.
I have 5 questions about your tea, could you answer them? Boil 2 quarts of water add mullein leaves (how much?) Use 2 quart glass jar Add dried mint (how much?) Add a tinny pinch of cayenne pepper Add a little pinch of ginger fresh, or powder 1 tsp. stevia herb It has to steep for a long time for the mullein to get into the tea ( how long?) Strain the tea through a funnel, and a coffee filter, it takes a long time, it's a slow drain. Then; Add lemon juice (how much?) Add honey (how much?)
I like your hanging dehydrator. I grow a lot of herbs through the summer and we use them fresh but haven't ever tried drying them yet. I don't know why but I always assumed there would be more to it than that so I hadn't taken the time to research how to do it. I'm going to have to look into getting one of those dehydrators.
Question for you. In your video you say the water needs to come to a boil, and not just a simmer. I'm still learning....so why is the full rolling boil important? It's not a challenge question, but me wanting to learn from other's knowledge.
Mullein... the proper way to pronounce it is mu-lin. I've heard people pronounce it in so many different ways but rarely saying it correctly. My favorite is Mull-laine. No worries though.... just pointing that out for those interested ❤
I use a few teaspoons per quart of water. I generally just put the herb in and let it steep for a long time. Then I run the tea through the coffee filter.
You always offer such valuable information, thank you! I cannot figure out how you do all you do ... it would be great fun to see a "Day in the Life" video!
In the first year the energy and nutrition coming up from the roots are only going to the stems and leaves. Same in the beginning of the second year, but once that flower stalk starts developing, it's like the upstream swim of the salmon and everything it's worth is pored into its legacy before it dies.
You would be far better off, with that hacking I hear, by using a quality organic garlic, chopped and pressed to mush with a fork into organic olive oil. Let sit about ten minutes. Then mush a bit again to mix it up. Rub oil with pulp all over under chin, on neck and chest. Sleep in tea shirt. A dropper full of oregano oil to swallow, with water quick. It's potent, so if child can't handle, rub on bottoms of feet instead. It all goes into bloodstream. No sugars, including fruits. Very effective. And keep fingers out of nose. Drill that in, because that is a good way to get a cold, or sinus infection. A few drops of peroxide dropped into nostril, with head tilted back, and, snorted, burns but kills all that bacteria up the sschnozzel. And for congestion, I pass out little snips of Dr. McGillicuddy's Mentholmint liquer. Because it works like a charm.

It's German. Not that I speak German, but when two German vowels go walking, it's usually the second one that does the talking. Until this video, I'd never heard it pronounced any way other than , "MULL-ən". But I've never asked a German. We Americans have a terrible habit of absolutely butchering foreign names and words. We're probably all saying it wrong.
Use a filter capable of catching the hairs. Theyre an irritant. Cant remember at which point she said that but there are other youtubers that mention the hairy fibers as being bothersome. Think pokey ouchy bothersome like if u rub against sunflowers or squash, theres something pokey like a clear splinter that youll be annoyed by till it works its way out.
TY. But cayenne pepper hurts my butt. I don't think it's as good for ya as they say. It's just a taste thing. I seen mullien in a parking lot gonna take some. Can ya use a dehydrator? Also. This plant is in research for malaria.
Hello Everyone, I am in need of a medicinal herb guide. A complete guide that includes identification, uses, recipes, how to administer etc. Could someone recommend a "must have" resource? Thank you 😊
Look up Rosemary Gladstar she has an herbal encyclopedia out + the US Army guide is pretty handy but short and concise. I just found a gem at my library, Botany in a Day: The Patterns Method of Plant Identification Herbal Field Guide to Plant Families of North America by Thomas J Elpel ( great way to test drive books before u buy them for ur home collection).

You can find mullien growing everywhere! Take a drive and start looking for places that have a parking lot next to wild weeds growing. Drive along the border and look for a tall spikie plant...tada! I hit a local bar with a large parking lot and got 2 mullein plants. Next I drove along a back road and was looking for a tall mullein plant and found several. I pulled over to park and picked them safely. Last I hit a hotel parking lot as it was next to wild growth and scored a FIELD full of mullein! It's everywhere in Pennsylvania!

I'm confused.. This is the opposite of everything I've learned about mullien. The rosettes are the first year they grow. You do not collect those leaves unless you're going to use them for toilet paper. The second year the stalk grows with the flowers. That's the time to harvest the leaves and the flowers. You can smoke the dried leaves to relieve asthma and make tinctures out of the leaves and flowers as well as make tea. Everything I've read you don't give herbal meds to small children and pregnant or nursing women. You need to have books on this to know what kids can and can't have. You can make syrups with garlic and onion and berries etc... those types of plants, but be careful around herbs!!! And tinctures should be made for them using glycerin and not alcohol.
The mullein flowers are great added to Olive oil & garlic cloves to make a natural healing ear oil. If you cut the stalk early on, it will grow several flowering heads, increasing your harvest. Great video! Thanks for sharing.

@@Seek_Him i use the young (smaller) leaves for tea and the elder (bigger) leaves for burning. The oil is made with the flowers from the stock. The root may also be used, 1st year preferably, medicinally, but also practically in the second year.
This is great for my apartment living
Hello from north Georgia
Thank you
You're welcome
You can smoke the leaves too.
I have 5 questions about your tea, could you answer them? Boil 2 quarts of water
add mullein leaves (how much?)
Use 2 quart glass jar
Add dried mint (how much?)
Add a tinny pinch of cayenne pepper
Add a little pinch of ginger fresh, or powder
1 tsp. stevia herb
It has to steep for a long time for the mullein to get into the tea ( how long?)
Strain the tea through a funnel, and a coffee filter, it takes a long time, it's a slow drain.
Then;
Add lemon juice (how much?)
Add honey (how much?)
I think it's all depending on how much of each you want.. like a great soup
Great video thanks for sharing
Pronounced mull-Lin. If you add your honey after straining your tea, it will filter faster.
Thanks for the information. Question: why flowering mullein isn't good to harvest?
Just as a plant is powered up to Flower is traditionally considered its most potent strength. When the energy goes into producing seeds not as strong.
Thank you. I have some mint in my backyard that I want to harvest and dry. I love mint tea!
Could you put the mullein in the coffee filter and let it steep in the mixture like a large tea bag? How much dried did you use?
I use a few teaspoons per quart of water. I generally just put the herb in and let it steep for a long time. Then I run the tea through the coffee filter.
Came for the herbs, stayed for the music!!!😊
Glad you liked it!

You always offer such valuable information, thank you! I cannot figure out how you do all you do ... it would be great fun to see a "Day in the Life" video!
So the fuzzier the better? I have a few of fuzzy ones by my house
Why are the first year leaves better? I made some tea from second year leaves and it was pretty good.
In the first year the energy and nutrition coming up from the roots are only going to the stems and leaves. Same in the beginning of the second year, but once that flower stalk starts developing, it's like the upstream swim of the salmon and everything it's worth is pored into its legacy before it dies.
@@T3rsky That makes sense ig.
Cute hat! :) thanks for the info.
Can I use a dehydrator to dry it and keep it in a tight jar? How long that is last?
Can the leaves be saved as toilet paper for out of season use?
Can I dehydrate the leaves instead of drying on tray for tea?
Great post
Great demo! TFS, blessings, LeXze
And No dairy=mucus forming
Garlic has amazing healing property's
What time of year is best? Can i harvest in november, i find them everywhere all soft and fuzzy
I don't know. I always take new growth at the base not old growth.
Nice video Yerba Santa is great for coughs also
Hello, can you grind in coffee grinder and store it? Thanks for the info
I would rather grow it out in a garden than a green house to me any thing grown in a green houseboat have any true flavor and like chewing on spuungrubber leather or card board try your tomatoes in a garden then try another one out of a garden and see what one tast the best
hello! I am looking for information on the "drying rack" your using in this video, am I not looking in the right place? Please let me know where to purchase. I have a gigantic one (which comes in handy when I have large amounts, but am looking for something smaller and this seems appropriate. Could you please provide information. THANKS!
Thank you for your video. It was amazing. So many great tips! Looked at this while my daughter is getting over a cold. I had her inhale and drink a out 4 oz of cudweed tea and she is almost 50% better but still dealing with stuffy nose. Does mullein help with that?
Why not harvest when flowering?
I just want to ask, how do you get everything done every day that needs done and do so much extra!?! Seriously, would like a reply or video! Thank you so much for sharing!
I work slow. I get up early and then get animal chores done. Then I kind of putter in between making meals and laundry get everything else done. Thanks for the question!
Great video and I love that stove.
+Plight to Freedom Thank you!
Does the mullein have to be dried first before making tea with it? Can it be picked fresh and used immediately? How long is a long steep?
I take the leaves boil water let them steep, strain it thru a paper filter and drink, hot or cold
Steep 5 minutes
I love love love this outdoor drying rack!! Where can we find one??
Just remember to dry it in absolute darkness. The sun is the great decomposer. Bad.
We pronounce it mul-lane here in oklahoma where are you guys from?
Idaho.
What if I don't have coffee filters? ...are the hairs a health hazard, or just not great for texture? taste?
Use a filter capable of catching the hairs. Theyre an irritant. Cant remember at which point she said that but there are other youtubers that mention the hairy fibers as being bothersome. Think pokey ouchy bothersome like if u rub against sunflowers or squash, theres something pokey like a clear splinter that youll be annoyed by till it works its way out.
dried roots from mullein works alot better than the tea
In my opinion & experience, the roots are good for toning the bladder.
@@khm2128
Good to know; thanks.
What is toning?
Toning the sphincter muscle there so you don't pee your pants? Toning like... toning your skin with whitchhazel?
I hope your girls get better soon. :(
I have lots of seed that I collected, because I was moving. Didn’t have tome to dig up any, how can I get the seeds to sprout?
If they were overheated they may be dead now.
TY. But cayenne pepper hurts my butt. I don't think it's as good for ya as they say. It's just a taste thing. I seen mullien in a parking lot gonna take some. Can ya use a dehydrator? Also. This plant is in research for malaria.
Cayenne pepper on your butt would definitely be a bad idea.
City girl here....confused. Does it flower then go to rosette...or was the harvesting pre flowering??
The rosette starts out looking kind of like a cabbage. Then the stalk comes up and flowers.
Great video. How did you learn all this?
+Steve W Research and experience. :)
My little guy is sick today too.
To clean the leaves before drying or nah?
I pick only really clean leaves and I brush them off but I don't get them wet.
I don't understand, are you drying it in the dark or the light? You seem to say youre doing both??
It is best not to dry in full on bright sunlight. Filtered light is okay.
@@dirtpatcheaven thank you!
Do you wash the leaves before the process?or just the ones with dirt?
I don't. I just don't pick dirty leaves.
I avoid washing, soil dirt sinks in brewing or shakes out when dried
I heard if you wash to make sure it's cold water so oils won't be destroyed
where do you get your herbs from
I get them from Horizon Herbs. Here is the link to their blog: horizonherbsblog.com/
And no honey when they are very young children
How did you make the drying rack? Would you do a DIY video please? I’d like to use it do dry my stuff out.
What ur looking for mught be best sourced thru several books!
E M Grieve, 1932 A Modern Herbal, you'll never go back. yr 45

Any chance of you sending me some mullein seeds? Need it for lung and sinus issues.
Have you found seeds?
Be glad to send you some Appalachian mullein from a fellar w last name of Mullins!
@@Samanthaf420 that would be a small God send. ;-) Not only would that help me with the lung issues or helping to protect us from the CCP virus but it would also help me to kick a 50 + year smoking habit. I have some challenged young adults in my charge that I'd like to be around to help teach them to be self-sufficient if at all possible. I know that the high desert climate is not were meulin typically grows but I'm pretty sure that with just a small handful of seed I can get it to grow in semi shaded areas or in containers. I may be disabled but I still have lots to pass on to these young people while I still can. ;-) please let me know what you need thanks, Natureboy.

You are pronouncing that herb incorrectly. It’s not mull-yun. it’s mullin
