    Perfectly answered all my questions re mullein. Thank you Kaye. Other than severe trauma and immediate life threatening illness, I have lost all regard for allopathic medicine in the last two decades and especially the last three years. It might be time to rethink our dependence upon manmade medicines. We will never be smarter than God. Please keep these videos coming.

      @MrGoatlady ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what you have but there is naturopathic/herbal medicine for both hyper and hypo thyroid. My husband is hyper and was told that the only thing to do was take radio active iodine to destroy the thyroid and then take synthetic for the rest of his life. Our naturopath put him on herbs, a homeopathic and supplements and he has been in the normal range for years now. There is natural healing for hypo/hashimoto as well.

I have found my way here because i no longer believe in the system or its intentions for my good. I am late to find the way at 59. Not for lack of trying! I searched for herbalist education when i was young--in my 20s-- but there was nothing local to me and books were few. Internet did not exist. Now folks like tjis are sharing!As bad as social media can be, it can also help us learn to heal.

    I didn’t read all the comments but I was wondering if anyone else knows that you should dry herbs before infusing into oils. If you’re infusing into grain alcohol or making tincture or decoctions, you can use fresh herbs but oil can spoil if water is introduced. Just spreading knowledge and no ill intent is meant.

    • @MFaith777
      @MFaith777 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think with fresh herbs, you put a cheesecloth overtop the oil mix instead of a lid for moisture to be released, right? And if using dry herbs, can use a lid?

    • @tntina420
      @tntina420 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MFaith777 The moisture will be on the bottom since oil floats. You can let the moisture settle to the bottom and siphon the oil off the top leaving the water in the bottom or freeze the mixture upside down and scrape the water off the top. I haven’t tried these methods but they would probably work. I just use dried herbs to be safe and prolong the shelf life of my oils.

    Missed this earlier. Out searching around our 2 1/2 acres (w a little wetlands on one side) for wild edible & medicinal plant. I hire mowing, fertilizing, & seasonal cleanups so if anything is on the edges, I’m going to move the best ones to a border/woodland edge bed, label them & see what happens & if they grow more there(?)! I dug up & moved red clover that popped up & it has done great in a bed. I had “hitchhiker” cabbage in three places in flower bed that I dug up & put in garden (sautéed some leaves; overwintered & it continued to produce in Spring. It is now tall, flowering & I’ll harvest seeds…Fun!). I love using “identifying plant” app. As I start to clean out flower beds, I am finding 2 kinds of “fleabane”, black cherry tree shoot 3’ tall in middle of Iris stand(?). I found yellow wood sorrel, mouse-ear cress, Oregon crabapple, Chinese crabapple & Common Mullein! Before I would have pulled out & thrown away. Now, I’ll research & see what I might keep in Woodland-Border bed…What Fun! You started me “really looking” even at my age! Maybe, tinctures & teas to help my recent Sciatic(?)! The Turmeric & Vitamin D3 at bedtime helps sleeping!
    Still Learning at 81!
    Thanks for your inspiration. I’m a “Later-Late Bloomer”! Sorry to bloviate….Will be shorter next time! Love your videos! JCLAIRE

    Love your vid on the benefits of mullein, Kaye! I've been making mullein oil for years- if I may suggest, dehydrated/dried Mullein blossoms and garlic introduce less moisture into the infusing oil, and it lasts longer without the risk of mold forming. The best fix for heartburn, acid reflux, Gurd is Raw Applecider Vinegar with the mother. Either swig it from the bottle or put a couple tablespoons in water. IT WORKS! I have crohns and it works for that too. My mom almost has an "experimental" surgery from the white coats where they were going to make a cut in her esophagus. I told her absolutely NOT! I bought her a small bottle of ACV and she called me the next day and said IT WORKED!!!! She cancelled her cutting surgery and never had heart burn again. She just swigs when needed.

      @@tammywhite9229 The way to get rid of gurd or acid reflux is organic raw applecider vinegar with the mother. Either swig a sip or put two TBS on water. You will notice almost instant results. Do this when you have symptoms or before a meal. If you start eating mostly organic this will go away. It is the GMO foods that are one molecule away from plastic (processed foods and cheeses) that our bodies don't have enough digestive enzymes to digest. The medical field wants us to believe we have too much acid. In reality we don't have enough. My mom almost had an experimental esophagus surgery to get rid of horrible acid reflux. She called me the next day and exclaimed it worked. I also have crohns disease so if I go out to eat somewhere when I get home I swig my ACV and no symptoms. Thanks medical field for damaging our gut fluora with shots when we were infants. Shots destroy our gut fluora forever. Making us forever candidates for big pharma. God Bless.

    Hi Kaye, I think the first jar and leaves were just about perfect.... Yes, you could "fit" them in a smaller jar, completely packing them down, but if you filled up the first jar, the way you were going, more of the plant could get infused because it had more room and more plant matter exposed to the alcohol, and you'd have ended up with at least twice the medical oil...
    God bless 🌱💚🌿

      @@LatebloomershowI hope the little prickly pear cactus has survived. They may not be ornamental exactly but isnt it exotic to have one growing on your property in Tennessee? It isn't normal to see them in your state is it? Or maybe I am about to learn something new about the flora of Tennessee. You may know that they're edible.
      You probably also know that the actor Stewart Granger took that name because his real name was James Stewart and of course there was already a very famous actor with the same name. One name change that I think was completely necessary was Boris Karloff (with a name like Billy Pratt I doubt he would have got any roles, except in comedy). Apparently he was a lovely guy and very well educated.

    After you infuse them with oil can you store them long time in the pantry

    • @Latebloomershow
      @Latebloomershow  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just checked the book and she doesn't say. So, I did a search: Here are some general guidelines:
      6-12 months: Infused olive oil can last for 6-12 months when stored properly, as mentioned in multiple sources.
      2-4 weeks: At room temperature, infused olive oil can last for 2-4 weeks in airtight glass jars or bottles. However, this duration may be shorter if the oil is not stored properly or if the ingredients used are prone to spoilage.
      Up to a year or more: Infused olive oil with removed ingredients can last up to a year or more if stored properly, away from sunlight and in cool temperatures.
      2 months: Refrigerated heat-infused oils can last for 2 months, as suggested by a Reddit user.
      It’s essential to note that infused olive oils can spoil faster than regular olive oil due to the added ingredients. Proper storage, including keeping the oil away from light and heat, and using high-quality ingredients, can help extend its shelf life.
      Remember to always check the flavor and aroma of the infused oil regularly to ensure it remains safe and suitable for consumption. If you notice any off-flavors, odors, or signs of spoilage, it’s best to discard the oil and make a fresh batch.

    • @Latebloomershow
      @Latebloomershow  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This infusion is not for consumption, so if prepared and stored properly, 6-12 months is a good rule of thumb.

      I decided to repot the seedlings and it turns out there were 5 to repot. So far they are doing beautifully in their own small pots. For soil I used a combo of store bought potting soil, Black Kow compost and a little perlite.
      They need to go in the ground but we plan to move. I hope they will do ok for a bit longer in the pots. If the move doesn’t happen soon I should probably just put them in the ground before winter.

    Don't really know for sure but, with mullein leaf being so "absorbent" you may want to put less leaf in the jar for tinctures say half to 3/4. I saw this from an herbalist. It should be just as potent, being the vodka can work through the leaf easier for extraction as it swells. Other leaf plants don't have this problem where you CAN stuff the jars. Great video we are all learning, at a time we really need to most.

    • @Latebloomershow
      @Latebloomershow  ปีที่แล้ว

      Another friend suggested as much. Many thanks! I will be doing it again. So do you say 1st year plants or 2nd year? I've seen both recommended.

    • @timmychonga4901
      @timmychonga4901 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Latebloomershow Both can be used but....first year is better because of the energy or potency in the leaf. Second year most of the energy or potency will be in the reproduction process or flowers. I would guess it would be the same for the root system as well, being first year would have more benefit's or energy. Dandelion is a good example of this, where you would want to harvest the roots in the late fall or winter, because that is where all the "energy" would be stored. So it comes down to "when" the parts of the plant have the most value. Hope this helps.
