Scotty Kilmer - what do you think of the Peugeot and Fiat Chrysler merger? I am also a fan from Nigeria, where the roads are extremely bad, because our government only steals the money and fuel prices aren't any better. So what kind of car/SUV that are affordable, low fuel consumption, reliable(could run for years to come,)safety(is a big deal,)cheap and easy to repair?

I totally agree about Honda thats why I've been collecting the K20A2 motors with constantly variable valve timing. Not a fan of GDI or Iron Spray for liners. While Honda still uses a conventional liner it won't be long and they will all be using it especially in their performance cars. Hell there is no provision for rebuilding an Iron Spray. While both tech's are great for performance their not made for longevity.

I think the best you can do is buy a proven performer, either Honda or Toyota, over something untested. For instance, I bought a 2018 Rav4 with 10,000 miles on it rather than the 2019 or 2020 remake because I was dealing with a known quantity that is reliable, and after 10,000 miles, any initial flaws should have revealed themselves. Still, though, it really is a crapshoot: I just try to stack the odds in my favor.

I got exactly this engine in my 2019 Civic, before I bought it I did extensive research on the subject and one thing is very interesting: While this engine is sold worldwide in the Honda line-up, oil dilution only occurs in North America and China. After some digging I also found out why: there is a "regular" version of the engine, which is sold in most countries, but it requires premium gas (only allows regular in emergency situations) and there is an "alternate" version of the engine sold in NA and China, it is tuned to run on regular gas all the time. It appears that the alterations needed to make it run well on regular gas also cause the oil dilution issue. Of course Honda knows that most Americans prefer regular due to price by a wide margin and it would cause a hit to their sales if they required premium fuel in their Civics and CRVs. On the other hand Europeans are very used to running premium fuel, most German manufacturers require it in their engines for 15+ years, a lot of gas stations over here don't even sell regular any more, so they can get away with requiring it, no problem at all.
So interestingly enough, I can buy the engine here in Europe without worrying about it and I have to say from a drivers perspective, it is a beautiful piece of machinery :)

Interestingly, I noticed that Toyota has so far resisted the trend to turbocharge their engines. Moreover, what few Toyota engines have GDI still have an extra set of injectors in the intake manifold, ostensibly for emissions but we all know it's to keep the carbon off of the intake valves.

Sent the oil out for analysis, found 2% by volume fuel in the oil, which was deemed by the lab as not abnormally high. They also analyze metals in the oil and surmise, no abnormal engine ware. I obliviously haven't had an issue at such low mileage, time will tell. However, this Honda is the best car I have ever driven. My car is blowing heat in like 2 minutes, its at temp in 5-10 minutes in the cold.

I remember my 96 Accord coupe EX so very well. That little 4 banger V-TEC was indestructible mated to that 5 speed stick. And the V-TEC was worth 10 huge ponies over the regular 16 valve engine back then. A nice looking car too in Frost White with "privacy glass". But what ever happened to industries making what the customer wanted with reliability ? I knew a Honda tec that made great money servicing those Honda's from that era even tho they were as reliable as they were. Now they need more than just proper service and nobody wants to bring them in for repair.

Doing oil changes with Amsoil at 6k mi. intervals and sending off oil sample to Blackstone to monitor dilution percentage. I'm at 40k miles and oil dilution avg has been at 1.5%. Moral of this story is to always follow Ryan's Mom's decision!
