I may be wrong, but I believe it was Chris Cornell that was the key to creation of Pearl Jam. It was during the recording of the Temple of the Dog album where they had Eddie Vedder sing some vocals, the most famous being the duet Hunger Strike. But the purpose of that album was a tribute to their mutual friend the lead singer of Mother Love Bone who had died from an overdose. Some of the musicians joined Eddie and formed Pearl Jam. The irony, Eddie is the last one we still have. I hope that Chris Cornell has finally found peace. There will never be another.
Brother, Pearl Jam had already formed and Ed was already in the band when Hunger Strike was recorded. Check out PJ20. Stone explains it all. The look on Stone's face when he says "Our guy's pretty fuckin' good too" is priceless. Rock on brother!!!

Like a saddle. Good one Fil . 👍xx I know what you mean about those emotions . I know all about those. Emotions can literally kill you . Serious stuff .!
Chris Cornell was from my generation (I was born only two months before him). He truly had it all; the voice, songwriting skills, rock god looks, etc... and as you've pointed out, Fil, was greatly respected in the music community. He's definitely among the greats of rock music. Jimmy Page loved him and allowed CC to interview him. I think JP and CC were planning on a collaboration at the time of CC's death. It's devastating to have lost so many artists of the "grunge" era to suicide and drugs and I've seen a few ugly comments here regarding this issue. All I can say is, being from that generation and from personal experience I understand why, unfortunately. Paraphrasing a quote from Elvis- 'Don't judge if you haven't walked in another man's shoes.' RIP Chris. No one sings like you anymore.
Vocal Beast, plain and simple. First time I heard Outshined, I was taken off guard. Alternative Nation, was playing and all of a sudden......I got up feeling so down! WOW! Thanks, Fil. Miss that dude!!
Musta been something in the water in Seattle back then. Some of the music coming out of that area over a relatively short period of time was off the charts intense, heavy and extrordinary.
Fil , have you heard Far Away Places ?? Toni Cornell ..daughter of Chris , recorded this with him just weeks before he died . Her voice has that same thing in it as his . That emotional, spiritual kind of connect . That pitch. Cadence. Call it what you will . She has it .🍂🍃
I don't think that there's been a more significant, important, or more musically valuable & gifted singer in "Composition Hard Rock" since Robert Plant. World lost a real treasure of a person and musician in that fellow's passing. Rest peacefully Chris Cornell...
Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington are greatly missed as they were great talents, they were very close friends with each other and a lot of pain they dealt with would come out in their music. I hope their souls are at peace now.
One of the all time great rock singers for sure. For me he was head and shoulders above the other "grunge" singers. His final solo album higher truth is some of his best work. Truly great artist. Much missed.
Thank you for this. To me, grunge was raw emotions. The melodies and the lyrics. So connected to blues. Gosh it hurts a bit seeing him. 🙏🥀 #Layne and #Chris 🎤
Chris at the height of his powers. I remember tweeting my appreciation to him over this song. I hope he saw it even though he didn't respond. Yogi and Pete, great guitarists as well. Hope you'll do some Layne Staley and Maynard James Keenan too.
Agree with you that Chris has one of the best voices. Another voice that I hold in high regard is Paul Rodgers and he is just terrific live if you get the chance to review one of his songs (any band, any time frame)
“Down on the Upside” is my favorite Soundgarden album. The entire band is (was) amazing but Cornell’s contribution was...(wait for it)...instrumental to their sound. Incredible talent used well. I’ve suggested this band before and I’ll do it again here: “Big Wreck”. The lead singer (Ian Thornley) has been compared to Cornell often, and honestly, when I first heard them (without knowing their name, of course, and being in the days before internet was everywhere) I thought it was Soundgarden and therefore couldn’t find their album! I don’t think Thornley was copying Cornell, (opinion deleted to avoid controversy), but I do think the fact Thornley sounds so much like Cornell hampered Big Wrecks success (though I could be wrong). And finally, I purchased “Persistence” on iTunes late in the evening after watching your livestream well after it was no longer live. Congratulations, sir! I listened to it on my drive to work and then AT work, and got “Hero” stuck in my head. I’ll need to listen a few more times before I can analyze it, but so far I’m liking it!
He is jumping octaves like it just one note. Jesus what a masterpiece of a voice he is.

Chris helped Eddie be confident before they became friends he was scared.
Excellent analysis Fil 👍🍁
Will miss that voice..
That face that will never be seen again in concert.
Great reveiw Fil
What a magic voice... so unique, the perfect Rock-n-Roll ( or any music style for that matter )tone.... WOW ! We miss you Chris ( R.I.P ) 😎🎙🎼
Thank you Fil for the video, analysis & back story 😎🤘 " Rock "
Wow. I have tears in my eyes . What a voice , and it is one of those voices that actually makes the hairs on the back of my arms stand on end . Loved Sound Garden .
Black Hole Sun . Won't you come ..
amazing .!!!! He makes me somehow think if native American singing . It sounds weird but when i close my eyes and listen to him I see and feel animal skins against my legs . Like a saddle. Good one Fil . 👍xx I know what you mean about those emotions . I know all about those. Emotions can literally kill you . Serious stuff .!
YEAH!!!!
I love Chris Cornell
R.I.P to a wonderful much missed musician
Great voice I will miss him😢 Thank you Fil
More videos about Chris Cornell please ♥️
Paraphrasing a quote from Elvis- 'Don't judge if you haven't walked in another man's shoes.'
RIP Chris. No one sings like you anymore.
Vocal Beast, plain and simple. First time I heard Outshined, I was taken off guard. Alternative Nation, was playing and all of a sudden......I got up feeling so down! WOW! Thanks, Fil. Miss that dude!!
Really great, in-depth analysis.
Musta been something in the water in Seattle back then.
Some of the music coming out of that area over a relatively short period of time was off the charts intense, heavy and extrordinary.
Perfection! I miss him
Fil , have you heard Far Away Places ?? Toni Cornell ..daughter of Chris , recorded this with him just weeks before he died . Her voice has that same thing in it as his . That emotional, spiritual kind of connect . That pitch. Cadence. Call it what you will . She has it .🍂🍃
Thanks Fil for the reveiw, really liked Soundgarden and his solo music.
Yes he was "the voice" that mumble I miss
I don't think that there's been a more significant, important, or more musically valuable & gifted singer in "Composition Hard Rock" since Robert Plant. World lost a real treasure of a person and musician in that fellow's passing. Rest peacefully Chris Cornell...
Eerily superb...a treat
no one did it better than Cornell.
Beautiful
Hope you’ve found peace shadow on the sun. We’ll forever miss you, never forget you
A brilliant and unique vocalist. I can not point to a favorite song, there were so many. The world is a much poorer place for his passing
Magnificent vocalist. Audioslave were amazing.
Downright beautiful
No conversation about greatest rock vocalist is valid without mentioning Chirs Cornell. R.I.P.
What a voice and what a loss👍chris was amazing
His voice is...don’t how to put but he could sing any story about anything and make it sound intriguing
Lovely singer.
I might be wrong, but it sounds like dry vocals straight off the board (love it)
You are very knowledgeable.
Good one Fil!
Fil -> I don’t know much about music/voices, but I know a lot because I listen to Fil!!!
