Oh wow! I also filmed it at Valley Park! I filmed it at 9:58am from Quinette Rd , Valley Park! Then I filmed it at 11:03am in Pacific. So I was right there with you
Big boy is nice to see, I always love a good old steam engine. You are popular, you should be famous. God bless you and watch over you wherever you go and your family and your dogs 🐕🙏.
What a great vid! And what a great country you show us. 90 degrees and parasols are open shading the ladies from the sun and all of a sudden it starts raining and they become umbrellas... The lens gets wet and by the time you wipe it and begin filming again it's dazzlingly sunny. The sound of these trains are so nostalgic for me, even if I did grow up in London in the 60s. Many thanks for all!
There is nothing quite like standing up side Big Boy and touching her drivers, linkages, wheels, tires, and anything else I could reach. It gives you a sense of scale numbers and pictures can't. That was while she was an exhibit at the LA Fairgrounds. L. and I spent a rather chilly evening watching Big Boy finish her very slow roll off the fairgrounds onto BNSF track. Seeing her move was bittersweet. Seeing it restored and rolling is nice. But I don't think there is a chance I'll ever have again to touch her raw mighty form again. That is living. Fare thee well Grand Lady. {^_^}
Yes! Sadly only that was new. Railroad way probably much older and not built for higher speeds and not electric. But these chargers look very good and modern on Amtrak trains. Plus the maintenance train looked ever more modern! Great catches, three very different trains. And yes i know that the rail path is more efficient for freight the way it is, i didn't mention the speed thing as only a negative thing. And if it was for higher speeds big boy would probably be banned from it due to weight restrictions so we wouldn't see it.
I ENJOY YOUR BUT WAIT THERE S MORE PART OF YOUR VIDEO'S VERY COOL AND GOOD INDEED THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WITH YOUR SUBSCRIBERS JIM KAMMERER OF PHILADELPHIA PA.
At 12 years old, my son would play on it, blow the whistle, and ring the bell for hours when it was on display at L. A. County Fairgrounds. It is a dream come true for him to see it running again. Bravo to UPRR for preserving 844 from steam retirement day one, and resurrecting 3985, then 4014. I do wish they would but 844 back in her grey paint she ran as 8444. (Sub note: Nevada Southern has diesel 844, still in full UP paint, running excursion trains in Boulder City, Nevada)
Big Boy is awesome! We got to see him in Iowa at Wheatland. He spent the night in UPs train yard where he wasn't supposed to be available to the public. This was in Cedar Rapids. People said screw that and showed up in droves Railroad police and Cedar Rapids police had to let everyone in.Union Pacific just radioed incoming trains that people were all over the tracks, be careful and everyone got to enjoy seeing Big Boy Love this video!
Seen the Big Boy few times running between Denver and Cheyenne. The whistle on the steam engine is phenomenal. The maintenance train looks like 1960's Winnebago Brave and the end of it something from The Jetsons!
Saw 4014 at the Pomona CA, fairgrounds where it was a static display for decades. Got to blow the whistle an operate the firebox doors. Truly a magnificent piece of machinery. Glad to see it's rebirth. You can see YT video of it's revival.
Miss our Big Boy..... . This is why we gave it up, so it could be on the road across 🇺🇸 as opposed to sitting static at the fair grounds.............❤ 🤍 💙 beautiful to see everyone out! The best part about our display is we hook up air and everyone can hear the whistle and the horns they can jump up in the seat they can pull the string and it can be heard 2 miles away! We still have the 9000 next biggest!
JT - Man you got a lot of pictures of BB - Great job. Sure you are known all over the place. Why not - you have a great channel. Another comment but I can't give 2 thumbs up, sorry. Thanks
Great video of the Big Boy at Washington, Missouri along with the Amtrak train and the Union Pacific weed spraying train. The UP weed spraying train was a very modern looking piece of equipment. The weed spraying trains that I have seen in precious videos was usually an engine off the service track pulling a boxcar that was made into a control car from which there were booms that extended along the tracks with pipes that had some sprayers on them to spray the weed killer. Behind the contraol car were a number of tank cars which either contained pre-mixed weed killer or water that was mixed with powder weed killer that was sprayed on the right of way. I would really like to see the UP week killer train in action to see how it sprays the week killer. Thank you for going to Missouri to capture the Big Boy for us. Looking forward to any additional videos of the Big Boy!
Hey Jaw Tooth welcome to the Show Me state. So happy to see you on your visit. When you come back this way again to the Midwest please stop in at the Museum Of Transportation in Kirkwood Missouri. Look it up online. Also stop in for a bite at Union Station in Downtown St. Louis. I'll wager that you will spend a whole day here looking and filming all the engines on static display and lots of different rolling stock. the museum It has a Big Boy and a DD 49 AX on static display and many many more (Frisco, Wabash B&O, and many more. ) Its a big attraction and its something i think you and anyone else will really enjoy when spending a day in St. Louis, MO. Everyone's always welcome to visit Missouri. You can catch the morning Amtrak from St. Louis to Kansa City. spend the rest of the day sightseeing watching trains or other things close by and see Union Station there and the WW1 Memorial then spend the overnight there. Return back to St Louis the next morning or afternoon Amtrak. We have so much to see when you visit. I really like and enjoy your vides.
Seeing this video reminds of when I was a child, my father took my brother and myself to see a steam locomotive in a nearby railyard. The loco was rusting and in sad shape, and later he took us to see the loco when it was being reworked and painted. But wait there is more...This loco now sits in the Smithsonian Museum of American History.
Was excited I met you. Saw myself in the pink shirt, right as the MOW pans right, and again as the Amtrak comes to a stop. I'm down here most every day, hoping for good catches! Toodles!!
Yes, that was awesome talking to you! I lost you after the Amtrak train came. I thought it was coming from the other direction. If I lived near there I would probably be there all the time. That is an awesome place to watch trains and see the river. There is a town in Kentucky that is similar that I go to. It is Augusta but they only get about 4 trains a day and Amtrak 3 round trips a week. Have a great week!
The horn reminds me off hearing trains in the distance. Anyone remember the opening for Superman, and the planets whizzing by him in space.? The trains sounded like the planets going by us in the night! I was very young.
That is for sure! I filmed the last circus train in a huge downpour with lightning and I got soaked. I have filmed in a foot of snow and temperatures of almost a hundred. Gotta keep the live action documented!
Back in 1983 my buddy and me wanted to see and photo the Missouri Pacific RR before the UP turned it to all yellow. We photoed some MP action in Washington. In fact there were many small Missouri river towns where the MP track came up against the Missouri River. Boonville, New Haven and others. At Boonville we lucked out and caught a MKT train! Now the right of way is a bike trail. Very scenic area. Maybe one day I will get back there.
Caught Big Boy in Walnut Ridge Arkansas last week. Got mostly still shots, but one partial video. A bus load of school children saw it!! Nice video Jawtooth!!
It's always great watching your videos you always describe everything that's going on and you talked about the towns and you talk to people what a great way to spend your life thank you very much for posting
It’s great seeing Big Boy - must have seen a thousand You Tubr videos by now! A shout out to Jim, the conductor in 4015 who took time in Houston to chat with me. He worked for UP from 64-04 and is doing 35 straight days with this train.
UP has the coolest "lawn mower" train. When I worked for BN we had a 2 ton hi-railer with a poly tank on the back, a little Roper pump, and two guys with spray guns. :)
A couple of weeks ago I was in West Virginia and a CSX weed sprayer came by. They used a boxcar with a window put in it and a guy stands in there to operate the spray. I didn't know what it was until it passed me. I saw Norfolk Southern use a high rail truck
That MOW train looks 1930's retro in design. As for Big Boy, got to see him up close a couple of years ago in my old hometown. Fortunately for me I was born in 1943 and got to see steam engines on the old SP and MoP in action. That was another place and another time long gone.
Excellent stuff JT - Big Boy is one hell of a loco! Someone on here confirmed what I was thinking, that it's now an oil burner. There's a lot less smoke coming from the chimney than if it was a coal-burner, particularly when it accelerates.
Awesome coach. Welcome to my home state of Missouri. Caught the big boy at St. Louis in a little east of Eureka Missouri on Monday. Glad you got to see it and video it
In an early camera view, I saw a young boy in a wheelchair before the engine came.. I sure hope someone. helped him see it. There was a crowd of people blocking his view. 🚂🛤.Beautiful engine!
Well you've done it again! In nearly 40 years (39 as an engineer) I've seen a few maintenance of way trains... but that was the 'coolest' one by far! Keep up the good work!
P.S.: Finished watching the rest of the video and a number of your still shots are really, really good! You might think about looking into including them in a book or some other compilation.
Another great video, thanx for doing the dirty work for us viewers with all that travel.....ps the one car on maintenance train looked like a portable air traffic control (sml)tower
I chased Big Boy from Scott City up to St Louis on Saturday. caught it 7 times. Had you mentioned you would be been in town, i would have been down in Washington to say Hi.
Caught the big boy in navasota Texas this year a couple weeks back, got lucky as it was stopped and waiting for a green signal a bnsf empty rock train went off its interchange track and then the big boy passed and man is it impressive, the whistle feels like legendary
I've been following Big Boy very closely in the past few weeks, U.P. is a credit to Railroading and America, they believe in this country and are proud of it, they have no reservations in showing it, I wish they would buy out CSX because you can rest assured they would proudly run her thru Ohio, CSX and NS could care less about their own history, thanks J.T 🇺🇸🙏🏻🚂👍🏻
THIS IS A AWESOME VIDEO NICE MOW EQUIPMENT VERY COOL INDEED HAVE A GOOD DAY STAY SAFE AND CAREFUL THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WITH YOUR SUBSCRIBERS I APPRECIATE YOU AND YOUR VIDEO'S THANKS AGAIN JIM KAMMERER OF PHILADELPHIA PA. YOU ARE MY GUILTY PLEASURE TO SEE ALL YOUR VIDEO'S EVERYDAY. 😇👍👌🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
That is so cool JT! You always get some of the coolest videos! I wish my dad was still here to see that big boy, but he's watching it over my shoulder with me! Thanks again JT, keep up the love fest of train videos!!! 😄
Beautiful video, even with the rain. That yellow train is UP's new weed spray train. Here is a video of it actually spraying. The spray comes from the lower corner at the rear of that odd shaped car at the end.
My wife and I are considering moving back to Washington in a few years. We are interested in those apartments right there on Front Street where you filmed. One of the apartment buildings overlook where my dad's office once was.
That would be so cool! I was talking to a few guys and I told them that living there with a balcony and that view of the trains would be heaven. You can also see the river as a bonus
@@JawTooth Thank you! Given that dad was a river man and I've been a train nut almost since I was born (I was nick-named Caboose), it would be a win-win. Actually it would be a triple-win. That crossing is a no-horn crossing.
@@JawTooth I'll tell you what. We'll get an apartment, let you know, then you can film from our balcony any time you want! Then we'll hit Aldo's for dinner! 😎
Got to see Big Boy when it came up to MN and WI 2 years ago. If you can try to meet Ed Dickinson from UP, he is in charge of their steam program. He's a walking encyclopedia of knowledge.
Great video jaw tooth big boy it's nice train love the guy hat with UP and 4014 log on it behide you when the Train Gose beye . Have a great weekend jaw tooth cheers love your work .
Jaw Tooth, I've been to Washington, Missouri many times. Great place, really nice down home folks. There is a town about west called New Haven that would be a great place to film trains. I had relatives who lived there. Have a blessed weekend.
Wow JT you was not that far from awesome man love the Big Boy , just think where i used to live i could have sat in my living room and watch the Big boy pass by awesome!! I hope you all had fun :-)
Awe man, I was at the front of the Big Boy when it was at the station. Literally a few hundred feet from you! Yes Washington MO is a very nice cozy town.
A steam whistle - still the best train sound to me :) Big Boy was built where I grew up. An amazing sight! I wish they sold tickets for a cross country ride - that would be awesome!!
JAw Tooth - You did it. You got to see Big Boy. congratulations. I'll bet you enjoyed every minute of it. What an experience. I envy you, believe me. Always Thumbs up, JT You do a great job of bringing obscure sites and events to the channel. Thank you.
@@JawTooth DAMN!!! Jt - You do get around. That must have been a spine chiller as well. That was when it was unencumbered by this Covid stuff. (You you are vaxed and in good health) Have to travel this fall - I hope to see Big Boy in Cheyanne. You are one lucky guy and thanks for all your posts. I think you provide insights into the unusual, the quaint and out-of-the-way places we don't usually see. People appreciate what you do and the effort you take to get there. No matter what you show we know - There's More!!!!.
Sadly our part of the UP system doesn't get a visit from Big Boy in 2021. Most of the time the smoke in Washington comes from the corn cob pipes the town is known for. Glad to see the big turnout as UP lets all the small town media know the schedule. After your experience with the CSX weed sprayer in West Virginia you've met the Big Boy of vegetation the front part of it appears to have a SD40 body and sounds like.it too. Those new Siemens Amtrak units have good takeoff and aren't very loud at speed. Kind of like going to the horse track and hitting the Trifecta. Great video for getting a late parking spot.
Hello Brian! Saw Big Boy in Valley Park, MO, Monday, 10am (8/30) about 35 miles East of you. 👍

No way UP would be allowed to buy any other class 1.

That is so cool JT! You always get some of the coolest videos! I wish my dad was still here to see that big boy, but he's watching it over my shoulder with me!
Thanks again JT, keep up the love fest of train videos!!! 😄
Very good information and phots THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WITH YOUR SUBSCRIBERS
@@kenworcester4387 That would be awesome! Hang out on the balcony with the scanner on waiting for a train! It doesn't get any better than that
Got to see Big Boy when it came up to MN and WI 2 years ago. If you can try to meet Ed Dickinson from UP, he is in charge of their steam program. He's a walking encyclopedia of knowledge.
Great video!!! What an amazing couple of trains!!! That Big Boy was awesome!!!
It is amazing to see in person
Great to see Mark, (Shoestring) in the clip, great video, man, that Loco is amazing, thank you Jaw Tooth.

Now THAT was one awesome video!!!!! Quite the show with the three different types of trains - of course, any video with Big Boy in it is Special!
Thank you very much! I have a couple more Big Boy videos to post
For sight and sound steamers are #1 hands down! That takes nothing away from diesels just a different Era for. 😊
Had no idea you were in Washington for the big boy. I was also there!
That would be cool! I hope someday it will run closer to the eastern US
JAw Tooth - You did it. You got to see Big Boy. congratulations. I'll bet you enjoyed every minute of it. What an experience. I envy you, believe me. Always Thumbs up, JT You do a great job of bringing obscure sites and events to the channel. Thank you.
Thanks Robert! I also filmed it in Utah and Wyoming in 2019 on the first run
Bravooo! Thank you very much Mr. Jaw Tooth! 😀👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
