You’ll Never Eat McDonald’s French Fries Again After Watching This

  • Renowned activist and author Michael Pollan illustrates how McDonald’s insists on using Russet Burbank Potatoes, a potato in America that is unusually long and difficult to grow. They further insist that their potatoes have no blemishes at all, which is hard because these potatoes commonly suffer from what is referred to as Net Necrosis, which causes unwanted spots and lines on the potatoes. If they have this, McDonald’s won’t buy them and the only way to eliminate this is through the use of a pesticide called methamidophos (Monitor) “that is so toxic that the farmers who grow these potatoes in Idaho won’t venture outside and into their fields for five days after they spray.”
When McDonald’s is ready to harvest their potatoes, they have to put them in giant atmospheric controlled sheds the size of football stadiums because they are not edible for six weeks. “They have to off gas all the chemicals in them.”

I have found old McDonald's fries in my car when I was cleaning it, and they had probably been there for months, and they still appear edible, as if they were just made. no discoloration, no wilting or shriveling, no molding, nothing. they still looked perfect, now THAT is frightening.

@@peterpiper47 Do you realize restaurants don't make their own fries? They're purchased frozen from large commercial producers through wholesalers and shipped frozen, just like McDonald's. In fact, McDonald's fries are made by McCain, who make and sell their own branded fries in supermarkets all over the U.S. There are no "boogie man" preservatives. The fries are bathed in sugar and sodium acid pryophosphate, common in baking soda and self-rising flour. The salt on the fries acts as a preservative, and the interiors of cars are typically dry, low-moisture environments. I've found fries made at home under the stove when cleaning and they look pretty decent, too. It's simply explained.

@@helloken Being a food engineer and working in a food processing industry(for about 6yrs) I believe i can answer your question.
Will answer them on parts, here it goes :
      1) No.. , usually All russet potatoes are grown with pesticides you may ask why? Because good one goes to industries, why to grow otherwise when you could sell them on higher price. They are in demand for resturants and food trucks (because McDonald's has set the benchmark of clean long chips so everyone tries to replicate it to attract customers)
      2) Organic vegetables are good options( or you could say only option), but they increase the cost of that particular vegi . And i have talked to farmer's and according to them growing organic vegetables is a" pain in the ass" and decrease there production in a field because of spoilage. For small scale organic farming is good (not easy i must say..) , for large scale .....huh can be done but again WHY? most of them will buy cheaper ones as who cares color spots on chips at there home or cheap food trucks(when there customers don't mind and increase there profit margin).
Solution : Non... I'll be honest even though i am in food processing profession, we all are eating CHEMICALS. What one can do is consume less, eating fast foods or from resturants should be done only for occasional parties or festivals only.

Stopped eating out and it's been so easy to drop weight. Now just thinking about fast food makes me sick. The last statement really says it all. You've got people who probably aren't happy to be working at these places that prepare your food that you pay way more than it's worth. That to me says more than enough. Learn to cook healthy food real well under 30 minutes, you will never regret this since your body will feel so much better.

Learning how to cook has changed my life. It boosted my self confidence, cleared my acne grew my hair past my shoulders, increased my self esteem and problem solving skills, and improved my ability to focus and follow through on tasks, strengthened my ability to be consistent and to get in the habit of planning and thinking ahead.
Before I was just running running running behind feeling like I was playing catch up. Running late. Rushed stressed energy over my body all the time brain fog, confusion, ADD, driven by impulses like seeing a food commercial on tv, late night terrible greasy eating .
I didn’t realize how insecure I felt having to rely on strangers (restaurants, drive thru) to do the most important thing you can do everyday. I didn’t realize how bad I felt about myself to actually believe that fast food taste better then what I can make. Taste isn’t just about flavor it’s also mental and emotional, knowing that I cook with love and that the ingredients I Use are going to love me back goes into what “taste good” to me. Taste is also very visual to me. I make edible art and it taste divine. Fresh cracked pepper, a sprinkle of sesame seeds or garnishing with cilantro or lime is just so beautiful. They slap those burgers together like they don’t love you or love themselves and if you do get a nice dish (fancy restaurant) they want to extort you for all your finances and it’s not even enough for 2nds.
people complain about grocery store prices but the only thing that super expensive are prepared & processed convenience food products, not the produce.

There is nothing like seeing where your food comes from with your own eyes. I found myself in northeast Montana during harvest season a couple years ago. This area is full of in enormous corporate farms that are 100's of thousands of acres. I was approaching a worker climbing off his tractor and I noticed that he had a Tyvek looking suit on. As I approached to shake his hand, he stopped several feet away and warned me not to come any closer because he had just finished desiccating the fields.
Curious as to what that was, I proceeded to ask what it meant and why it is done. It turns out that the crop was lentil, and they grow on very bushy plants that have lots of leaves. It is very difficult to harvest the lentils by machine because the greens on the bush clog everything up. To solve the problem, they spray the crop 2 weeks before harvest to kill all the greens, which fall off the bush. They can then harvest the lentils easily by machine. He told me that his family never eats lentils or soybeans because of this. After I heard that....I've never eaten a lentil since, and I used to love them. I will only eat soybeans if I know they are 100% non-gmo and certified organic. (Haven't found organic lentils yet)
The irony is....vegetarians eat lots of lentils as a staple in their diet. They think it is part of their healthy way of life.....not realizing they are eating death.

There are plenty of organic lentils. At least in Germany.
When it comes to the USA I found organic dried lentils after a quick web search.
I don't know wether there are organic canned lentils though, but I'm always using dried lentils. Those are not hard to make. Simply soak them over night in a glass bowl and wash and cook them the next day.
And they are always cooked and washed prior to consumption anyway, because they are toxic.
So depending on the herbicide it might have a negligible effect on the food, but I need to look more into it.
Personally I'd still recommend it to avoid non organic lentils though.

He always told me its not fun when you are old, you are sore, memory fails, you cant go after young good looking women like you did years before, you cant drive well or at all ,he drove fine until 84 then he stopped.....So whats 5 years off your life once you are over a certain age...Did you know on average people live longer than before, even fat/obese people are healthy and live long....So eat /drink what you want its all moderation....If you have 10 packs of fries per day sure its not healthy .. Did you know fruits are not healthy either ,full of sugar,so too many fruits are not good...Like I said moderation...I laugh at people who say I only eat organic,lol,lol,lol....Ever hear of pollution, airborne pollutants...I know here farmers have organic farms, and rigjt beside them are non organic, thus when they spray by plane their crops, they get the organic lol.....Eat anything in moderation, you will be fine...My family have done that for years...Since the 1800's my family members have lived into the 80's and late 90's on average...Sure some dropped dead at 50 most not...Even heavy drinkers and smokers didn't have cancer, and people who never drank or smoked had cancer..You really have no control, but moderation for the masses is better a message than to STOP Everything and eat grass and drink purified eurine and live in a bubble,oh my !!!

I often see the odd scrounger in there stealing a few carrots for their dinner.
Carrots are never as fresh as when you grow your own veg as I do. Assuming he was just referring to the fact that it was unhealthy compared to better food options, not that it was quite literally poison, i went on to explain to him how i was a busy single, disabled mom who's time and money were on a tight budget, and it was the most meat for the least money (i was raised by the type of Carnivores where meat was the main course and if there was no meat, it wasn't a meal 😒😔) he never replied after that.
i really wish he had simply told me what he Knew to be True at the time, instead of keeping quiet, allowing me to continue poisoning my family, and then silently judging me for it 🤦🏽
i guess my grandma was right: hindsight truly is 20/20 😔💔
