Since you mentioned the "-ion" ending as being feminine you should have mentioned that the "-ment" ending is masculine. Those are the two really easy ones. After that it gets harder. I speak French (and in fact am a French teacher) and am realizing as I learn Spanish that although there is a big debate as to which is more difficult I have no doubt that gender in French is much more difficult than Spanish. The only real solution is simply to memorize them when you learn them.
Merci madame, my française professeure didn't even explain it and i failed all my tests i have one tomorrow and this helped so so much now i understand mas/fem. !
Merci beaucoup, mon professeur corrige TOUJOURS mes essais en disant que C'EST MASCULIN, C'EST FÉMINININ, et je n'ai jamais pu comprendre mais cette vidéo est vraiment utile 😄😃😁😀.
I have an exam in a few hours and I just got frustrated memorizing the feminine and masculine words....😬but this helped a lot..Merci beaucoup madame!!😄
I use some rules for finding the gender like 1.trice 2.euse 3.te 4.ure 5.oire 6.tion 7.sion 8.ence 9.ance 10.when a consonant doubles itself and it add e at the end These are the rules for a feminine noun.if any of the nouns end with those words it’s a feminine. I have tried it and got it right! I think it will be useful
The tips you have given with reference to ``gender of nouns`` in Voltaire's language are very little helpful to a French learner by the simple fact that they aren't predictable and general. The best way to know about the`` gender of a French noun`` is to learn it with its appropriate definite or indefinite article when one learns the word for the first time by looking it up in a dictionary. One can't trust the ``endings`` of a word to do so. N.B.-It's totally a waste of time to try to memorize a bunch of word endings. I look forward to hearing from you shortly if you have any questions.
identity the gender of the noun by completing the phrase through adding the feminine/ masculine of the noun 1) un prince et une 2) la mode et un 3) un Anglais et une 4) la poste et un 5) un employé et une Pls.help me to answer this.🙏🙏
anyone watching this video and thinking that all these rules and exceptions are excessive, i have a simple fix for you: learn italian! Gender is very simply marked in the singular form by either ending in an o or an a for masculine or feminine in almost all words, with only some masculine words ending in e in the singular. simple as that. examples: feminine: La cinema la frutta la cucina masculine: il treno il ragazzo il bastone
When people ask why there are masculine and feminine nouns in french I just say that its in other languages too like Spanish, German, Greek etc and it all comes down to its routes. French has latin routes and the romans must’ve decided certain nouns to be different genders. Why? We don’t know, but i’d sure as hell love to find out
My Ukrainian boyfriend (who speaks Ukrainian and Russian) asked me the other day how to know if a noun is masculine or feminine and I actually didn’t know what to answer, because I’ve been learning French for 9 years now (since the age of six) and my easiest ways to remember is just to read books where we can easily see if a noun is masculine or feminine because of the adjectives (sometimes I even find out a word is masculine and not feminine, or vice versa xD) and also practice by speaking with people who know French well. But I never thought about those tips, so thank you so much for this video ! :) Btw, sorry if my English can be a little bad, i’ve been learning for 3 years- ^^’
I’m a new subscriber and I like your videos a lot. What I’m discovering is that spoken language is a completely different animal than language in text. I learned Spanish from books and conversations over the years, but with French I’ve been heavy on listening to news broadcasts, podcasts, audiobooks, etc. I think I want to understand what’s being said in French more than any other area of my study at the moment. Are there any recommendations for better comprehension of spoken French? Merci beaucoup.
In order to get better at understanding spoken French, I recommend active listening. Listen to authentic French content (videos, podcasts, audiobooks...) while reading the subtitles/transcript/book. It allows you to pair listening with reading, in other words associate the written words with their pronunciation. Depending on your level, you can start with slow French videos, then with someone speaking at a normal pace with a clear pronunciation, after French TH-camrs speaking very fast. Make sure to listen and read at the same time. I would also recommend you to watch the same video at least three times. By playing it again and again, what was just gibberish to you will eventually be more and more comprehensible. 🔑
I have one question that if we are looking at the endings of masculine and feminine then in feminine words there is "E" at the last then why " Une television" don't have "E" at last ? Please reply to my question
Rohini Vaithilingam More or less, you mainly just have to memorise the words and if they are masculine or feminine. There’s really no easy or definite way to identify those words!
It's funny you bring up using color as a tool to facilitate memorizing masculine and feminine association. I think it might be helpful for some people, if at least some of the time, letters were given a color to signify that it is not pronounced, but also to signal when a letter is pronounced differently from how it's normally pronounced.

I use some rules for finding the gender like
1.trice
2.euse
3.te
4.ure
5.oire
6.tion
7.sion
8.ence
9.ance
10.when a consonant doubles itself and it add e at the end
These are the rules for a feminine noun.if any of the nouns end with those words it’s a feminine. I have tried it and got it right!

I have one question
that if we are looking at the endings of masculine and feminine then in feminine words there is "E" at the last then why " Une television" don't have "E" at last ? Please reply to my question
It's depends of the words of cours.
All french gramatical rules are so many exceptions
Nombre is masculin but it ends with e
Article is masculin but it ends with e
How to identify these words??
Rohini Vaithilingam More or less, you mainly just have to memorise the words and if they are masculine or feminine. There’s really no easy or definite way to identify those words!
Rani Weber Thank u so much
thanks, it helped!
Last two rules do not justify to identify feminine and masculine easily but anyways thanks. Merci beaucoup
